  1. Milone is fine, I just wish they would figure out a way to trade him or one of the other starters at this point however.
  2. The bbref career comps are pointless in Hicks case, Hicks was rushed to the majors by the Twins and basically floundered until they finally sent him back down. His first 500 so at bats in the majors are close to irrelevant at this point as he never should have been up to begin with. Mike Cameron is also on his comp list as well...so those lists are pretty pointless.
  3. Hicks has his warts, but so does Rosario, I am a HUGE Hicks fan but I think Rosario has the better career offensive wise, but to state that Rosario is going to have a much longer and much more successful career is just a guess at best. However to say Hicks may be lucky to have a job in 4-5 years is ridiculous, the guy is a stud in CF and can run the bases. If Revere can last 6+ seasons Hicks will easily be able to as well.
  4. Most pitchers will perform better as a reliever...this isn't a good argument on why he should be taken out of the rotation.
  5. I imagine that would goto Jepsen before May.
  6. IMO Rosario won't regress, he didn't even put up that good of numbers last year anyways (sub 100 OPS+) I would be worried if he stays the same personally and am looking for some solid progression from him. As far as regression candidates: Escobar Dozier (that second half worries me) Duffey Milone Gibson Perkins (injury) Murphy Sano (could be a growing year, where he doesn't have a .900 ops, but Something closer to .880 or so)
  7. Or signed one of the many RP that were available and would have cost less than what we paid Pelf the last 3 years (though plenty RP would only cost two years)
  8. His 2nd time through weren't that much worse IMO, it was the 3rd time that stood out. Seems like that can be improved by mixing up his pitches a bit more, and just getting more expirence etc under his belt. I guess I don't see the harm in giving him 2016 to have a real shot at the rotation, if he succeeds, awesome! If he fails after 15-20 starts, then by all means put him in the pen where you know he will be fine. Such a waste to never give him a real shot at starting, especially when Milone and Nolasco are taking those starts instead of him.
  9. Pretty sure most SP in all of baseball have increase in OPS against in the 2nd and 3rd time though the lineups. I think most acknowledge that May can improve in some areas as a SP as well(pitching longer in games, keeping pitches down etc)
  10. Not a bad point, I forgot that Swazak wasn't half bad in the rotation. But he just seemed to me to never be more than a #5 anyways (could be wrong) where as I see May as a potential 2/3 type
  11. Swarzak had ample shots to start though and was a failed starter, he is the perfect example of a guy who you ultimately stick in the pen. May has had success as a starter and has a high ceiling, pulling the plug on him way too early.
  12. I'm concerned about K's in the pen as wel, however you can snag those off the FA market for pretty cheap deals 2-3 years 5-7 mil a year. Not so easy when it comes to starters, there is a reason why a guy like Samardzija just got 90 million and no RP ever has come close to that even that type of contract. Basically If you have a guy who can strike people out as a starter, it is just foolish to move him to the pen, where you can "buy" or "trade" for strikeouts much much easier.
  13. Santana looked pretty good last year especially towards the end. I'm not worried about him, he should slot in as a #3 at least. Hughes, if healthy will be "fine" as a starter as well. Nolasco is a massive sunk cost. He should just be cut at this point, he is clogging up a roster spot. If you don't want to cut him, slot him in as the mop up man to start the year.
  14. Exactly, in fact, he has looked quite decent thus far and the ceiling is even higher, what makes it more frustrating is he is the one guy in the rotation who is actually capable of striking guys out. (I guess Santana is too)
  15. The Twins are really good at finding depth for the 4th/5th/6th/7th OF spots and the 5th and 6th guy out of the pen in the organization, I just wish they would be more concentrated on finding actual impact arms and bats once in a while.
  16. Ryan just doesn't get it. He continues to play mediocre veterans and guarantee them spots rather then give them to young and better players, this has seemingly been the Twins MO for ages and one of many reasons why they haven't had much success overall since 91.
  17. “Built like offensive guard in the NFL. Will have to watch body in the future and won’t have any problem seeing it…Has an outside chance to survive in minor leagues as C, but could only be a back-up at the big-league level.” scout on Matt Lecroy This one seemed 100% spot on. Even more painful that it's about a player who helped boot Ortiz and likely a title or two out the door
  18. Suzuki played perfectly fine in 2014 to be a starter, the problem is 2015 he took a big step back and a 50/50 guy was needed to pair him with IMO.
  19. I don't think so, if the player opts out after 3 or 4 years and doesn't resign with the original team I imagine they are a bit frustrated, but happy that said player played well enough for 3-4 years where he could ultimately go back on the FA market. Does that make sense sorta? Like if the Twinssigned Heyward and it killed it for 4 years the needed a new contract...it would suck kinda, but it would be nice he "played great" those 4 years.
  20. Depends on when they would strike the deal, with Sano I'd like to see them be even more aggressive and approach him with a Longoria type deal (but more money), Buxton would be next, and from there I wouldn't worry too much.
  21. The thing is with opt outs, if one team offers it, other teams will have to as well. It's the reality of the situation these days and is what it is. No way does Heyward sign with the Cubs without the opt out, no way does Grienke sign with the Dodgers the first go around without the opt out etc It's the reality of the situation when you are dealing with elite players still in their primeX
  22. It's not like they straight up cut him, they did trade him for some folks in return. One could make the same argument about the Twins, they traded their best CF from 2015 away, from a questionable (for now) return as well
  23. I still wish the Twins would have traded for Sanchez, I know it would have taken more than Hicks, but I wonder if they could have enticed them with a package around Kepler and Polanco?
  24. The division titles were very nice, but damn, it would been great to see them make a deep run to the title one of those years, especially with Johan anchoring the rotation. It also wouldn't "sting" as much if they didn't get swept all those times in a row as well, losing a playoff series is sad enough, but when you are never really "in" those series to begin with at any point (i.e. don't win a game) it sort of puts an additional sting to it. Hopefully the next round of Twins studs are due for some nice luck when they make the playoffs, I will take 12 straight wins to erase the 12 straight losses any day
