  1. Dave's day as GM: 8:30 wake up 8:31 call up Jim Pohlad telling him I want to cut bait on Nolasco (trade him and 50% of salary for a PTNBL to an NL team) 8:32 tell Pohlad I want to offer Cueto a 5 year deal (for less AAV then what we currently are paying for Nolsaco, Hughes and Milone) 8:33 Pohlads fire me and rehire Terry Ryan (who said 2 days earlier he was stepping down from GM)
  2. Yeah, markets have taken a hit, one of the few investments I have that are actually up a signiciant amount over the last year is Bitcoin (go figure!) Oh well though, great time to buy as I still have another 20-35 years in the workforce. I would NOT be wanting to try to retire in the next 12 months, I feel bad for those folks.
  3. Ok just looked him up, apparently a dude from the morning show? Can't say I have ever really Listened to that show, but from what I read he is funny/not afraid to call out Twins management, sounds like a solid dude to me! Might have to check out the morning show soon.
  4. The big ten was awful. Nebraska and Minnesota had no business being in a bowl Game to begin with.
  5. I listen to Common Man, PA and Barriero (the last only once in a while the first two maybe once a week or so). I can't ever recall hearing "Meatsauce" being mentioned. Is he a regular caller or something? TBH I tune those guys out.
  6. They still are fine in that scenario even if they lock them up early. They basically will be buying out their arbitration years in that scenario along with a couple of the initial free agent years. Even if they overpay for a couple arb years to earn the FA years part of the contract there still will be plenty of money to go around. I'm not saying go out and sign 4 guys to huge contracts, I'm saying, go out and sign one impacts guy to a large contract. None of that would stop the twins from locking up any player they wanted to.
  7. Honest question: who/what is meatsauce? Is that some nickname of a twins player i missed over the years? Matt lecroy? Sidney Ponson?
  8. Exactly nobody is saying that in the least. The argument that many are making is that instead of signing a bunch of below average to above average type players (Santana, Hunter, Nolasco, Hughes) to contracts, perhaps spend that money on one elite guy and one "above average guy" instead. Quality over quantity, etc etc. As mentioned, for the same amount of payroll the Twins rotation this year could be: Cueto (or almost any other top ace pitcher), Santana, Gibson, Duffey, May (Berrios in the wings) That seems a lot better to me then the Santana, Gibson, Hughes, Duffey, Milone, (Nolasco in the wings) rotation we are tossing out this year.
  9. Buxton+Sano+Rosario+Berrios etc aren't due a big pay day for the next 7-8 years or so. Signing a guy to a big 5 or 6 deal doesn't stop the Twins at all from retaining any of their current young core. It doesn't even preclude you from locking up Dozier and Gibson. Remember, a lot of money comes off the books well before that anyways in the Mauer, Hughes, Santana, Nolasco (yuck) contracts.
  10. Nearly every big named free agent will follow the money...
  11. Wish you guys were doing this the weekend of the outdoor hockey game! Have fun though guys. Pavano was one of my fav players on those teams. Someone needs to ask him a Alyssa Milano question for me.
  12. Tigers have gotten a helluva lot closer than the Twins in the last 10 years. How has the Twins uber conservative approach worked again? One ALCS appearance since 91? Worst playoff results of ALL Minnesota pro sports teams in that time. Not. good.
  13. Yeah, I have been a believer in signing IMPACT players in free agency and then trust in your system to: 1. Create additional impact players. 2. Fill in the holes with average to good players. Spending money on #4 types like Nolasco, Hughes types or spending money on below average bats (Hunter) never made much sense to me seeing how the Twins system has plenty of guys who can give you similar results with saving a lot of coin. Again, with the money they spent on Nolasco+Hughes+Milone they could have signed nearly any ace over the past 2 seasons.
  14. Nobody is saying that. Most people are saying that if you are going to add it to payroll it should be split up over 4 years, or if you wanna put it all on the 2016 payroll, then I guess the Twins are saving 4 million a year for the following 3 years? Regardless, even if you wanna put the whole amount of 2016 payroll the Twins still have plenty of money they could send.
  15. I agree. The Twins are paying a lot of money to Milone+Hughes+Santana+Nolasco this year. Enough money where they could have signed almost any ACE in the game and still had enough left over to pay Santana as well. Cueto+Santana+Gibson+Duffey+May would be a nice looking rotation right about now....
  16. Good thing old man Carl conned the taxpayers to build that fancy new stadium to ensure the Twins would be competitive. 0 playoff game wins since Target Field opened. Bottom third payroll. I'm just glad it wasn't my tax dollars going towards it.
  17. I'm not sure they should hold Park's posting fee against the payroll this year (the full amount) if that is the case, then I sure hope he provides 16+ million worth of value... $106 million is pathetic, even with the extra 4 million from Parks posting fee (pro rated) This team should be in the 120-130 mil range, no doubt.
  18. Under Ryan the Twins bullpen has been pretty good overall, however that doesn't guarantee future success, at some point they need guys that can strike people out, not more Duensings, Boyers, Fiens etc the problem many have is that they refuse to go after any game changing type players. Settling time and time again for the safe/cheap option
  19. Is it wrong that I was hoping that Nolascos name would show up on that Al Jazerra investigation? A well timed suspension or a "phantom injury" would be the best thing to happen to this rotatio. (As it would force the twins to give a spot to Duffey or may instead of Nolasco)
  20. Sadly I think the main reason why the Twins are going with Milone over May is due to money. It's absurd to think this would be the reason, but the Twins seem to have operated like this in the past (See: Pelfrey)
  21. Ah thanks for looking that up, I definitely think May will continue to improve in that department as well moving forward. Again, Ideally the Twins could figure out one or two of the following: 1. Trade one of Milone or Hughes for a nice RP in return (or a solid prospect) 2. Trade Nolasco for anything 3. Trade Gibson or Santana for a really nice haul. Or include them as a part of a way to get an Ace or future Ace.
  22. I agree, I'm not labeling him at all and I think he can improve, but IIRC it wasn't just inconsistency with May, it seemed like every start he never made it past 6. (Could be wrong) I want May over Milone in the rotation as well, but "ability to go deep" isn't one of the things May has over Milone at this stage.
  23. I have a hard time criticizing him too much on this, most #5's wont get you too deep, even though I want May in the rotation, I must admit that he was pretty poor on pitching deep into games (worse than Milone IIRC)
