Great article as always!! With the reality that payroll is pretty much static, the team will be very young for ‘25/26/27. Its nice to know that our drafting/development is top notch! Rookies shouldn’t need to be counted on from day one but as the season unfolds, it’s likely that we may have an historic rookie class. Not just these 4 prospects but 4-5 more that will be in the mix. To me, this is much more exciting than signing or trading for an average established MLB’r place setter until someone takes his place. If there every was a year to bet on the farm kids making an impact in MLB, it’s ‘25. Erod and LK especially have performed at every stop in their way to the show and there is no reason to believe that they can’t be MLB regulars for years to come. No one expects them to be superstars from day 1 but they are special and they will make an impact. Without highjacking the thread, there are others in the farm that could have been included but thats for another day.

Fatbat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Definitely a possibility, he is also gonna get a quick shot at being an MLB RH COF with us if our price is too high for him. All 5 of these prospects with get at least their 15 min in MLB- 25 replies

Nice mix of young and really young prospects. If we eventually get 1/2 MLB regulars from this list its a win! 3/4 would be lottery type winning. Along with that, a temporary place sitter is most likely. We will see 1 or 2 in MLB ‘25 if the injury bug bites hard again. Hopefully not.

Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lets start at trading ownership. -
There is 5 open spots on the 40 man, based in history, 3-4 of them will be filled by prospects. We have 3-4 prospects that need to be added. Olivar is in that discussion for sure. Raya and Rosario are a lock Olivar is also in my opinion. Other eligible prospects are more fringe types but possibly 1 more could be picked out of that group.

Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agreed. There is always a way out but realistically, his trade value is down and the Pohlads want to maximize sale price so they need star players and a winning season. The Pohlads aren’t going to firesale and go into rebuild mode. Can he be traded, sure but we are only a couple key investment pieces from a deep playoff run. Players need to perform commensurate to their pay and young guys wanting a big payday need to produce well above their paygrade. -
Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins have the 6th highest WAR on their current roster in MLB. An extra $17M spent wisely would go along way to making a deep playoff run in ‘25. Lets just assume the new owners want to win, they would presumably pay more for a well oiled machine playing in the ALCS vs. a dumbsterfire of salary cutting rebuild mode AAAA prospects in last place central division. An investment by the pohlads will make an immediate +ROI. -
Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, its as Ludicrous as proposing any trade for Correa. They made the investment. They need to live with it. -
Lee is best at 3B. He needs to hit tho but Miranda/Lewis are also there. Lee is the better defender so he gets the spot. Lewis needs to either settle in at 2nd or platoon in LF/DH. That doesn’t make much sense but neither does Lewis at 1st. Miranda needs to learn 1B by April and Lewis needs to learn to love 2B.

Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Everyone says his $35M is a team salary limiter. Ok, at what salary is he a bargain? 15M? 20M? just split it at $17.5M. Lets pretend what the left over 17.5M would buy this organization. 2-3 hasbeen MLB veterans. Or 1 Pablo type ace SP. Or How about the Pohlads just suck up an investment into the team and spend $17.5M more and keep Correa. They made a commitment to win now. If Correa is traded, you need it to be for 1. Allstar pitcher and 1 on the cusp of being an allstar position player and 2 high milb prospects and 2 Low milb prospects with high ceilings. Anything less, we lose the trade. -
Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you look at the Tiggers, they took a dump in ‘23 because of youth, they were playing the best ball in September’24 tho. Dbacks and Rangers youth movement both got hot in ‘23 and ended up in the OCT classic. Tell me the Orioles won’t be in the ALCS in the next 1-5 years and I will simply dismiss you as an idiot. There is a youth movement in the Twins Organization and it should be leaned into. We struck gold with Nelson Cruz and Carlos Santana in recent years but they aren't $ 2-4M type guys. It hurts our club everytime we sign an average type Veteran. It really messes with us when we get ahold of a Gallo, Margo, Pagan, DeSclafani…. (list is endless). Embrace rookie - young developing talent types! They are frustratingly entertaining but at least they can learn how to win. -
Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since the twins have a core and more core players close to mlb, it should not be in the business plan to pay 4-11 M to a slightly positive WAR and ops+ of 97 - 107. SPEND real money/assets on an ACE pitcher or a 2-4 WAR guy. Fill in with more young guys as needed but don’t waste 11M on Gallo or MAT. -
Yes, any MiLB player that has 6 seasons completed can elect to become a free agent. Dobnak obviously won't choose free agency. I would be surprised if Winder and Severino do not explore free agency.

Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Margot was 0-1000 in pinch hitting situations and Gallo struck out swinging twice in every at bat with RISP. They were both horrible signings. -

More than that. At 26 yo, a fully recovered TJ arm and the talent to get outs. There is-no risk to the twins and no roster crunch.

Down the road if he tanks but there isn’t a 40 man squeeze in November. Im sure we scoured the waiver wire and signed exactly zero other cast offs from 31 other teams. He will be around for awhile.

Carmargo has options and is a young controllable catcher that can mash. He has value, even if its low because of almost no MLB experience.

He has zero MLB experience and 26 yo. Coming back from an injury and has a chance to make the MLB roster out of spring training. His stuff plays in the high minors and his mlb salary will be minimum. I can’t think of a single reason to dump Canterino in NOV.

Varland is still around because he is young, cheap, controllable and may end up in the pen. Thielbar is a free agent and will likely retire. Don’t count on him coming back. looking at the 40 man on MLB.com today, their isn’t many more to cut unless they would jettison Helman and they decided to keep Alcala by picking up his option year. Right now it looks like they have plenty of room to add Raya and 2-3 more young guys and sign a FA or 2 but I seriously doubt they will be signing anyone as soon as FA lights the green light.

I would hope that Lee and the FO get together on a contract like that. Do one with Lewis also. As far as playing in a certain position, thats probably a fluid situation depending on the health of several teammates as well as if Keaschall knocks the door down and arrives in May ‘25 to MLB. Lee is worth more than Julien and LK could quickly be worth more than Julien and Miranda. starting lineup in game #1? Lee at 3rd, C4 at SS, Lewis at 2nd, Miranda at 1st. Julien at DH. Or some sort of position shuffle/shuffle? the position options/configurations are endless with Castro/Martin/LK in the mix. Do not expect a trade to be made. The FO is going to double down on staying in house and promoting young guys. We are gonna be thee money ballers.
