Gotta say, I don't hate Lewis's defense at 1b. I hope he can continue to hit the ball hard, the last at bat of the top of the 8th notwithstanding.

I'd be curious how a robot calls that differently? It's a tough call, even if I do think it was a catch. Balls and strikes I agree for the most part, even though having a human is what I'm very much used to

He mitht not even be what he used to be. But I absolutely think he can be a guy you can write his name into the rotation in pen. I even extend him if possible.

I absolutely LOVE Prielipp's potential. He isn't ready to be 32 starts at 6 inning per. Right now I think Bradley and Ryan are at that level. I don't know that there are others in the rotation to count on that yet. Pablo back next year certainly will help that.

I think bringing up both Jenkins and Culpepper should help the offense too. But really, if they do need to trade Jeffers, they also truly have to find another bat that can help with his middle of the order production. MAYBE Lewis can find his footing but I don't know that I would expect it. So I don't think they would need to trade for Goodman. If they can find a different 1b/3b/DH type option that truly can be a #3 type hitter, then go for it.

I mostly meant; if you HAD to pick between Larnach or Bell going, which would you pick? I don't know that you have to, but I don't love Larnach's defense either even if he has a solid bat this year. But you are probably right, Bell shouldn't be in the infield.

I think a good quality starter is actually a pretty massive need. The only starter I really trust to go 5 or more most of the rest of the way is Bradley. I HOPE Ryan can get back into his groove. I do think Ober can be ok, but I don't know how much I trust Prielipp MOSTLY with his supposed innings limit at some point. And then Zebby; he can look really solid at some points and really like giving batting practice at others. Wouldn't be shocked if he transitions to the bullpen after this year. If Rojas suddenly becomes a thing in the rotation that would be awesome. But yeah, if they can add someone who can at least slot between Ryan and Ober, even better between Bradley and Ryan, then go for it.

I like all the names mentioned in this thread already. I’ll add Casey Mize as another option. Gausman may be my favorite, but it’ll be really good to add some help

Seeing Jenkins play in left field is interesting to me. Makes me think his debut might not be all that far away after all. And it sure was fun to see Lackey’s name in the box score. They got a good one with him

I don't know that I want an overpay for Arraez to come back. Someone else will probably offer more, and that's ok with me. I'd prefer a middle of the order type more. I hope they are active this deadline.

Culpepper was hurt and just came back and hasn’t played in the field since coming back. Jenkins I do think is close. If this is September 1, and both of them are playing well and not hurt and also haven’t been promoted then I can see your point maybe. But at the same time, no one knows for sure what the next cba will include. So trying to manipulate time when we don’t know how time will be counted doesn’t make sense to me -
If they do trade Jeffers now, regardless of return, they had better have another deal in place for a right handed hitting middle of the order type bat to come back and replace. That is, if they do want to actually try for the playoffs. For example, if Houston decides to sell and we can get Isaac Paredes from them, then I'd be more open to listening on Jeffers now. I also wouldn't prioritize Ben Hess in a deal, and I like him. I just do want SOME of the focus to be on the remainder of 2026. Or at least, that's what Tom and Jeremy Zoll have been saying all year. To sell Jeffers for a prospect return now would go against everything they've been saying, but I can see him doing a prospect return IF other moves are also happening.

Oh man, Gausman would be so perfect here for the next two months. What do you think Toronto would ask for in a Gausman trade? Or better yet, a Gausman and Jeff Hoffman deal? Could enticing them with any number of AAA or mlb level outfielders as a starting point work? (Not named Jenkins.)

Just for reference, this year he is hitting .326/418/457 against left handed pitching. If that continues, that could certainly help a team that has been dismal (without Buxton) hitting left handed pitching. To me, it would also mean that the deadline would have multiple outfielders traded away. Without multiple outfielders traded away, I definitely don't see a fit. Otherwise, he also was born in Burnsville if people do care about guys from MN.
