    To me, seeing any outfielder on this list after Jenkins means they are going to be making multiple trades this offseason. They need more pitching in their pipeline. Keaschall and Buxton aren’t going anywhere. Mendez and Rodriguez et all are in so many ways superfluous, and they can be moved to add pitching to the pipeline. I mean, who wants to bet that Mendez breaks the majors with the Twins vs another team? I can’t see a way he gets a chance here unless like 7 players ahead of him get hurt. Which, knowing the Twins, I guess I can see :) But yeah, they had better make a number of trades to move outfielders they don’t need for pitching that they will

    Sure, as far as, I think Jenkins or Rodriguez or Ben Ross even could provide more value than Alex Jackson currently, who isn't playing. If Caratini or Jeffers do get hurt, and they need a different backup catcher, that's still someone who won't play all that often at this point. Jackson hasn't caught a game in more than 2 weeks.

    You are still talking about the backup to the backup. Not the backup. The backup TO the backup. And that's only IF either the starter or the backup get hurt. Which they haven't. IF one of them gets hurt in a game, then the other finishes that game and the Twins can call up someone from AAA to be there by the next game right? To be the backup again.

    What if I told you that Jenkins, Rodriguez and Buxton will all be here by playoff time. Would that change the equation for you on if a 3rd catcher is necessary?

    This is where I'm at too. I have to think there are starting level catchers out there who would be available for a top 10 prospect in our system somewhere too. Especially with the apparent numbers game in our outfield especially. I mean, let's say Jeffers does move on after we put the QO on him, They are going to want another starting level catcher right? Why couldn't a pairing of Austin Wells, who seems to have fallen a bit out of favor in New York, with Caratini, but serviceable until Lackey is ready in 2028? And I just literally threw a (figurative) dart at a dart board.

    Agreed with all of this. Also part of the surprise for me was them not trading Larnach. Larnach's been great this year, but there is just such a numbers game in the outfield. Agreed with how you put it otherwise.

    If they are both going to be up this year, Larnach almost has to not play then right? And he's been great this year. Course, Buxton. It all depends on him then. Hopefully his hip is right and he can be more the April version of himself.

    Trades can happen too. But who knows, maybe Jeffers is back in 2027 with Caratini as the backup?

    Out of that group I'd have to say it's Martin then. I can't see a way that Culpepper goes back, not this soon.

    Then maybe it is someone like Martin? I can see that. I more was saying I can see more value in a backup SS than I can a 3rd catcher. That's all. Not hate. I love Jackson's athletic ability and arm.

    Maybe. That said, who's to say there is a 2027 season on time? And with an ownership group that is saying they want to raise payroll, I'd imagine a backup catcher wouldn't be that difficult to find before next season starts right?

    Not here to bet, at least for that amount. But how important is a 3rd catcher that doesn't play? Especially if you have an ownership group who is stating they want to raise payroll next year? It very well could be another player going down. I can see that. But just curious why a 3rd catcher on a roster is so important?

    Good timing to say this today with Roden having 3 hits so far. And I also think Kreidler still has a roll as his glove at SS and CF are both pretty steady. I think you are looking more at Jackson going down if anything.

    It's weird getting older. 16-25 year old me knew every player on every team and knew their stats and how well they had done for the past few years. Even what positions they played or where I thought they would be better. Now I look at the box score before a game and realize I've never heard of Brandon Young. What is a Brandon Young?

    He did show more at AAA than any of the other twins prospects have shown at AAA this year. I think he deserves a shot. Frankly, I would have very much been ok with Larnach being moved. I know he's having a good year but I think Roden, with a defined role, can provide what Larnach can with possibly better defense. And that's before we get into the potential with Jenkins.

    Dan Hayes wrote a bit ago that the Twins and Cubs were the teams that had called Toronto on Jose Siriano after he had been acquired initially from the Angels. That part is interesting to me. Hayes even goes to report that they had offered a package built around Kaelen Culpepper, but when Toronto asked for Riley Quick as a secondary piece (compared to whatever other secondary pieces the Twins were offering) that's when the agreement fell through. Later, the Twins and Toronto came together for the Jeff Hoffman trade. So, getting Dean Kremer and then Jose Siriano at the deadline. What would you have thought of that deal happening?

    I'd be ok with it being Jenkins who gets the shot. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I have to think with the level of defense that Wallner provides, I'm ready to move on. If Wallner was capable of CF level defense, I'd think he would be up by now.

    Oh man, if you could promise me Matt Wallner could emulate late 90's Matt Stairs (moustache and all) that would be awesome. And yeah, hopefully Rodriguez can stay healthy.

    Of those you mentioned, Lopez and Abel are coming back from injuries, and as of now I have no idea what to think of Joe Ryan. I actually do think Lopez will be fine, but depth is a good thing, and frankly you can never have enough pitching. I also can't imagine Festa getting a chance to start again and being healthy enough for that. He, and to another extent Matthews, are bullpen arms for me next year. I'd love to be wrong. But yeah, of those you mentioned, Lopez and Kremer should be good to go. Ryan probably. Bradley for sure. Actually Prielipp I would solidly add in there as of now, and I'd also be open to Rojas getting more leash. I don't know if Ober will be back for sure (maybe he is a trade candidate) but then I can easilly see the argument for spending on a durable starter in free agency too.

    No to Wallner. He's almost 29. He isn't a prospect any longer. I'm good with moving on. Roden still does have potential. Check out his savant page. In a small sample, it's more red on there than even Larnach. I don't know if he will be a star, but he hits the ball generally pretty hard, and certainly he is a better defensive option than Wallner is.
