Isn’t that every pitcher ever though? And wouldn’t you rather have Ray over Paredes, as an example? Or if someone like Prielipp has an innings limit, then Ray over who else would be next up then? He is a free agent in a few months and is throwing pretty well this year. I’d be open to it

After the first month I don't think this would have been a discussion. With how he has gone over the last month or two, I do agree more with this. Is he truly a starting level outfielder? I don't think so. Also, with Roden up (who I do think will hit) and Buxton and probably eventually Jenkins this year along with Keaschall, I can absolutely see Martin getting squeezed out. Well, Martin and more than a few guys currently at AAA.

He had a 1.99 era for Toronto in 2025, his savant page looks fairly good. Sprock was killing it, so we will see

I'm not giving up the world for Reid Detmers. I know he's been good this year. I don't want to meet that price.

The deadline isn’t July 9th. It’s August 3rd. A lot will change between now and then for every team, including the twins. This is just a talking point but a fun one

First, Griffin is an unrestricted free agent after the season. He would not be team controlled after this year. That said, I like the idea of adding a starter if they truly are not selling their big pieces. If they could turn their glut of aaa outfielders (not including Jenkins) into some additional arms, that would be awesome

Agreed. I don’t see both paths being taken. If they are in contention and buying, I can see adding a starter to keep with Joe Ryan: if they go downhill and are trading Ryan, they aren’t adding a rental starter

Depends on a few other things... 1) What is the return? 2) What other moves do they make at the deadline? Or this offseason? 3) Is there a 2027 season?

So the Twins are listed here as being in the contenders, which is fun to type out. Their best match would be starting pitcher Foster Griffin from the Nationals. Their dream match is Kevin Gausman from Toronto. It also lists the best match for the Yankees as Ryan Jeffers, Milwaukee's dream match as Joe Ryan, and the Phillies dream match as Byron Buxton (I just can't see that happening. I also don't see Ryan going, but I think it'd be the smart financial decision even if I would want him for a potential playoff push if they are truly going for it. Thoughts? And what would be a fair trade for Griffin or Gausman? I figure, if they can trade away from their glut/surplus of outfielders in the majors and AAA for any semblance of either help or prospects, that's not a bad thing. You are probably right. Just saying, if he can be pitching again soon then a starter isn't as big a need. But really, time is running out and I can't see a way he is back in the majors before the end of the month regardless.

Bullpen, if they truly are going to try, needs at least 2 dependable additions prior to August 3, and maybe even 3. I'd LOVE another starter. If Ober looks good in his return tomorrow AND Mick Abel can reasonably be counted on to come back prior to August 3, then this is maybe less of a need. But I'd love the idea of adding a guy who can go 6 on the regular. With bats, you didn't mention Kaelen Culpepper. Just throwing that out. I do not know if adding a bat is a need right now, but I suppose you always have to listen. But I do think trading Larnach makes all the sense in the world regardless. I also don't know how much longer Josh Bell can hit like he has, but he has looked good in the dh spot for a while now.

I like this idea. I don't want to volunteer to start it, but I like it. With that, I had a dream last night that Tom did go back, while also showing all that he 100% isn't Joe and is trying to fix what he called a mistake. With that, the Twins received Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman in a deal with Boston. In the dream Emma did go back to Boston, but as I am awake I don't know that they would want him. Tom did say that letting Gray go was a mistake, and Gray would certainly be a good fit next to Ryan which also allows Prielipp's innings to be better monitored. And for everything Chapman has been off the field, he still would certainly help at end of games. I know I know, this deal probably wouldn't happen. But in a baseball sense it makes sense, and it certainly happened when I was dreaming last night. :) Jenkins and Culpepper are both staying. Houston probably too, depending on if Roch is there at 3 or not. Otherwise I kind of hope they are actually open to adding. The worst thing in my opinion would be doing nothing at the deadline. Thoughts?

The thing is, no one at all knows what service time will count for with the next cba. Plus, I can’t imagine any players actually burn their service time during a lockout.

Yes, I believe so. I also am extremely excited for when he is playing for another team in 2028 and inevitably has a strong 2 week run and an article is written here titled “Did the Twins make a mistake with Matt Wallner?” The comments on that article are going to be AMAZING! I just hope this article is tagged at that time :) -

Based on this board and the sheer number of pitchers in the top 100, that’s almost statistically impossible. But even then, if they are debating between the 44th and 45th player available, pitching can win out. But the top 3, who are all 60 or above grade prospects, I wouldn’t take a 55 grade player above that

They can take all pitching after their 3rd pick if that is best player. You need lots of pitching prospects to make pitchers that are mlb quality. All of it is a numbers game right?

Also makes me think they should and could make a bunch of aaa and aaaa outfielders available for any type of movement. But it will be interesting to watch what or how many moves they will actually make. I just hope they do pick a lane and are active

I just meant, they didn't acquire, the Twins, any pitchers like you had mentioned. I also think the Twins could thread a needle where they trade players like Jeffers and Larnach and even Ryan for different levels of returns while also adding a couple of bullpen pieces. At least that path is feasible.

How many A or A+ pitchers were acquired at the deadline last year? Were there any? And I did say that mostly because of Matthew Leach's article at MLB.com the other day, where he floated the idea that the Twins could sell some players, like Larnach, but also attempt to bring in some bullpen help.

Roden will come up soon, once Larnach is traded for a reliever. And Jenkins will debut when he is ready. My guess is still August
