Wallner is so tough to gauge for me. He has real power yes, but he needs either a change of scenery or a real focus on everything hitting wise so that he truly isn't 3 outcomes only. But even how the article is written, I'm not certain a 3 outcomes player is a fit on this team right now. If they can move him for a starting catcher or a good prospect of some kind, I'd be open to it.

I don't hate the idea at all of having a starting outfield next year of Martin and Buxton and Rodan. The range there should be a huge improvement over 2025's outfield defense that included Larnach and Wallner. It also gives room for when Rodriguez (if healthy) and Jenkins are ready to debut, and both should also be better defenders than Larnach or Wallner were in terms of range.

I'd love Arraez. His defense leaves a LOT to be desired, but he plays every day and gives great at bats. Those are both things this team needs too. I just would prefer if they did get him that he dh's a lot, and that they ALSO get someone who can be a good defender at 1b. But yeah, maybe the plan is for one of their current infielders to move to 1B?

Josh Naylor (depending on whoever the mystery investors are) is most likely out of their price range. I do think Falvey knowing him from his time in Cleveland doesn't hurt, but I don't see that happening. He is more of a pipe dream for me. But yeah, his defense and attitude and experience hitting in the middle of the order is exactly what this team hasn't had for years now. Ryan O'Hearn is someone that I'd love to get. His range at 1B is pretty solid, and he has experience in the central and with our (current) hitting coach. He's looked pretty good with the Padres too. I don't know if he'll NEED more than a 1 year deal or 1 year and an option. Beyond that, honestly, I'd probably more be looking at the trade market. Naming off names there feels like a shot in the dark, but it's certainly possible that some team really likes giving a chance on Bailey Ober or Matt Wallner for someone who could be a bounce back here too.

I should add, I really want them to have someone at 1B next year who is at least average if not above average defensively. I don't really care if it is a free agent or via trade. There are definitely options available.

I certainly like having Wallner at 1B or at DH if he is going to be on the team compared to still in right. With Jenkins and Rodriguez close, and Rodan and Martin in the outfield now with Buxton, the range in the outfield should be a strength regardless. Love Wallner and his arm. If he can take to 1B, I think that'd be great. Otherwise looking outside the organization for a 1B makes sense too

Agreed you take what the best offer is if you are dead set on trading him. But would I be ok accepting less than they got for Jhoan Duran? No

Disagree only that I'll take Pablo as my ace. Ryan was awesome last year, but I'll take Pablo for 2026 ongoing.

I have no problem with writing articles of any kind. People can do that. Positive/negative, I'm trying to answer YOUR question here. This type of article here reminds me so much of the premise from the movie Office Space and having a Jump to conclusions mat. That's all I'm really trying to say here.

No one is policing what people can or can't write. I don't understand how you are jumping to that conclusion. I'm also not someone who GENERALLY worries about things that are outside of my control or that have or haven't happened. Especially when it relates to things that truly don't matter in the grand scheme of things, like a past time. Plenty of other things to worry about that are very real. I'll give you an example. The baseball draft lottery will be at the winter meetings in December. Probably around December 8-10th at some point. Inevitably, wherever the Twins end up for the MLB draft in July 2026, there is going to be columns written about potential players they could draft with the pick they have. Also inevitably, there are absolutely going to be comments under each of those articles on every single player that's written about that'll say something to the effect of "Doesn't matter who they pick, that player is going to get injured or the Twins will screw up that players' future" in some capacity right? Such is life in the comments section I suppose. But if an article is written about a player and WHY that player is doomed, I have a hard time backing that premise as the future hasn't happened yet, right? That's all I'm saying. Same with this premise. The Twins are becoming a laughing stock because they MIGHT trade Pablo Lopez. I don't see how anyone connects those dots without an action being taken. If the Twins keep Pablo there will be people who think they are a laughing stock already, right? And if they trade him, the comments will be louder in that regard, especially with whatever the return actually is. Basically, you are feeding the beast either way. I just choose to not put as much energy into writing about things that haven't happened is all. Do you use a lot of energy worrying about things that haven't come to pass?

Right there with you. My kids aren't baseball fans, so I very much appreciate having twinsdaily for any conversation about baseball. It was one of my first loves, the game itself, and having baseball to still talk about is certainly a great escape from reality in many ways. No doubt :)

I thought their pro scouts were more game prep than anything, but I could be wrong. I have no doubt they (and most teams) have a fairly large database of everything they know about most other teams players, and their own, from at least high A and higher. Everyone knows just about everything about all the players it FEELS like, just some teams have different opinions about what they are looking for.

You know, I am too. I guess if articles have to be written daily though, the arizona fall league is going on. Not that I'm the one choosing content, but both Hendry Mendez and Brandon Winokur played yesterday in their game. Just throwing out ideas :)

Yup, I don't see a lot of positive either. I will add, if someone came out and wrote an article on why the Twins should and will sign Pete Alonso or some other name free agent this offseason I'd also understand this is a daily operation.

Well then if they aren't getting the value they believe they are worth, then they aren't getting traded. Problem solved.

Does someone HAVE to write an article every day though? Like for real, is that TRULY necessary?

Yeah, but going into it with a doom and gloom/sky is falling right away and worrying about something that may or may not happen, why have that? I truly sometimes don't miss the days of NOT having 24/7 news all the time. Maybe that makes me old.

I didn’t say it has to be puppies and kittens either. I just meant why worry about something before it actually happens? What is the point?

Arbitrary Thoughts: OF Trevor Larnach
Cory Engelhardt replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd be fine with trading Wallner for a catcher or a prospect they like. Unless of course they think he can become less 3 outcomes overall, I could see moving him too. I know he is a walking .800 ops, and his power is huge, but if they truly are moving more towards contact and athleticism, I'm not certain where his role is outside of either 1B (which he has never played) or DH. I know he is from here, but if they are changing HOW they play (including on defense) I could see him being moved to. Would not shock me.
