Roster construction. Whomever you want to put that of the feet of (ownership, GM, previous GM), that's my answer. Terrible bullpen construction, no real partner for Buxton, Too much reliance on best-case scenario for everything. At the end of the day, this team wasn't built to be good. When they started turning in above average performances, that sent everyone scrambling.

I hate to say this, but at least they tried. At least they didn't roll over or frustratingly stand pat. I hope this kind of goes like 2001, when they surprisingly traded for Detroit closer Todd Jones. The team was kind of good out of nowhere and made an acquisition to signal that. They didn't make the playoffs, but they did the next three years and six out the next ten. I hope that is what we're seeing here, fingers crossed.

So, I'm not great with nuts and bolts manager stuff. Would it be possible for him to play something like a "big left field?" Like, use his speed and coverage ability to cover lots of ground, but maybe mitigate the loss of arm strength? To teams ever do this? Then you could kind of move the center fielder to the right and have the center and right fielders split a smaller amount of territiory?

I'm so confused as to why multiple people have listed Topa in their projections about the bullpen and he's even listed in the bullpen usage chart. We DFA'd him on Tuesday!?!

As sad as I am to say it, I think you are right. When the American colonies were considering independence, John Adams wrote, "If we finally fail in this great and glorious Contest, it will be by bewildering ourselves in groping for the middle way." I see a rebuild in the same way. Trying to rebuild while holding on to two or three vets just probably won't work. It will just make them and us all sad. Tear it down and start again. Baseball is the one sport where you can truly do it. As you may have guessed, I teach American History haha

What is there to sell? The big contracts likely can't be moved. Jax and Duran would probably get something, but relievers don't bring huge returns. The expiring contracts are Vazquez, Paddack and Coloumbe. I can't imagine we get much for them. The one guy that teams would want is Ryan. I don't want to send him away. Do you?

Haha it's a bit of an optical illusion. The green monster south sticks out a little bit, covering the S on the sign from this angle. I can only find older pictures, but you can see it on those.

At the very least, Jax needs to be moved down the bullpen pecking order. I don't have the answer who moves up, but it has been rough watching Jax in high-leverage situations over the last few weeks.

My biggest positive (besides the obvious) from this game is that we used just two relievers and neither were Theilbar, Lopez, Jax or Duran. Too many times last year we used our strongest relievers in blowouts either way, which left us shorthanded in high leverage, close games.
