    The hitters that inning looked like they had no chance to get a hit.

    There have been some great Yankee center fielders—DiMaggio, Mantle, Bernie Williams—and maybe the fans thought that Hicks would be another great player in that succession. Yes, the Twins gave him away for what turned out to be next to nothing, but Hicks signed a long-term contract and the has not produced.

    Waiting for Maggi to make his debut. He is replacing a guy on bereavement leave, so he doesn’t necessarily have much time in his stay.

    I don’t feel sorry for him, of course. But, OTOH, he has really become the villain in Gotham, when he is performing as well as he can.

    I think it's easy to be the new guy who is not being paid a ton to become the darling of the fans. When the expectations change and are not met, the fans can be pretty brutal in the Bronx.

    In other news, a Rockies player has stolen a base, breaking the tie with the Twins for the fewest stolen bases in MLB. Rockies now have three to the Twins' two.

    Trade him for Kepler? In terms of salary, I believe they are similar. Hicks has always been a better right handed hitter and he has the ability to play all three outfield positions. That money is owed him for years after this year probably make any idea of a trade a moot point.

    Thanks for checking. His splits this season .753 OPS vs. RH batters, only .308 OPS for LH batters (SSS).

    Right handed hitters in the lineup versus Nestor. Does anyone know what his splits are like? Gallo and Kepler get the day off for now and Larnach is the only lefty in the batting order. Edit to add: I checked Cortes' splits, this year he has extreme splits, handling leftieswith far less success vs. right handed hitters. In his career, Cortes has slightly reversed splits.

    I would say that Miranda has been a disappointment so far, but it doesn't take long to change that perception. A couple of good games would make his numbers acceptable. With Kyle Farmer still out, there really isn't anyone to step in for Miranda, so maybe the leash is a bit longer for him. Despite having the most experience defensively at third base, Miranda still looks like a work in progress at the hot corner.

    Is Aaron Hicks the Yankees Emilio Pagan? The Yankees are more dogged with injuries than the Twins (for once). No Stanton or Donaldson and 3/5 of their rotation is out. Maybe this is the year that everything goes wrong and they have a losing record. More likely, of course, is that some of their players return to health and others step up and they compete for the AL East flag.

    I'll be at Wednesday's game so I hope you're incorrect about day games after night games. Mirror images? Twins 13-10 97 runs scored, 80 runs against. Yankees 13-10 94 runs scored, 78 runs against. BTW, the Twins struggling offense has scored the most runs of all the teams in the AL Central.

    It will be a performance issue with him. If he pitches well enough to stay, he'll stay, there's really no one pushing for a recall that will also cost a roster spot. If the Twins come up short on arms at some point, he well may be outrighted. I also think Winder will be added to the bullpen when his rehab is over, and the one leaving the major league roster should be from Pagan, Moran and Stewart.

    I would think so. It isn't optimum to do so with anyone with upside, but Headrick is/was stretched out enough to go multiple innings and isn't high enough on the prospect ladder that they feel like he needs to be pitching in the roatation every fifth or sixth day.

    Headrick is still the long man. Cole Sands figures as his partner on the carousel. Stewart can’t be optioned.

    Ober was optioned yesterday. Stewart is the corresponding move.

    Miranda doesn't have great first-step quickness and only an average arm. If he wants to be a third baseman, he'll need to hit. He didn't have a lot of experience at first in the minors and it showed last year, but I think with work he will be a decent first baseman. It isn't incredibly easy, but the skills required aren't off the charts.

    For the rest of the 2020s, I have forseen the infield as Lee/Lewis (3b), Correa (ss), Lee/Lewis (2b) and Kirilloff/Julien/Miranda (dh/1b). There is a ton of positional flexibility there, but five guys now in their early to mid-twenties around one of the better shortstops is a good mix, especially since CC is only 28 right now. One or two of these guys might not pan out and they still would be well-stocked in the infield.

    Given the shakiness of Moran, I have to infer that Winder will be back as soon as he is deemed healthy.

    The answer is Brock Stewart, 31 years old, who hasn't been in the majors since 2019. He doesn't appear to be the same type of pitcher he was when he was last in the majors.     I wonder what the corresponding move is. I would guess Henriquez was moved to the 60-day IL.
