  1. All they need to do is hold Cleveland in the bottom of the eighth and then score a couple runs off of Class A.
  2. JM swung at the first pitch out of the zone and takes strike three.
  3. Swung at ball 4. Swung at first pitch.
  4. Polanco-Buxton-Kirilloff sounds like at least a hit.
  5. Ugh. What a way to get our first K.
  6. No strikeouts--Buxton will fix that.
  7. Not off topic, 'cause nothing is off topic in a game thread, but I love the BMW commercials with Buck, Bueller, Albies and Nestor.
  8. Cockeyed optimist: hey, we haven't struck out for two innings.
  9. A reminder that Nick Gordon is much closer to an average runner than a burner.
  10. Nick swung at ball three, then GDP.
  11. Oh no!! Bases loaded, nobody out.
  12. If the wrist is okay, the key thing for Kirlloff is to not chase. He didn't on his first PA this game.
  13. Despite good luck and good base running, Cleveland only scored two.
  14. In about a month, Royce Lewis could be ready. In the meantime, I think a mix between Farmer and Miranda would be okay. If they had a better option (a left handed hitter), it would be nice.
  15. Mama told me there would be days like these.
  16. Only one Guard starter has an OPS over .700 (Ramirez). So, they start single-single-single. Ugh.
  17. Miranda started the year as a full-time regular and possible long-term piece for the Twins. A year ago at this time, I was saying that the Twins should trade Miranda in a package to get starting pitching. He promptly took off and made a case that he was a cornerstone of the franchise. I'll wait before I say again that he should be traded, but I don't think his future is at third base with the Twins, which does lessen his value. I've seen very little that makes me believe he'll even be more than passable at third base--the arm and the first step are lacking. He could yet be a middle of the order DH and first baseman, but right now he seems to be pressing and chasing too many pitches outside the zone. Willi Castro is a classic utility player. He is a switch hitter, with some speed and pretty even platoon splits. He doesn't hit for much power, but he is very versatile. He seems to be Rocco's choice as the alternate at both third base and shortstop over Nick Gordon. When Farmer returns, the need for Willi's skills will be diminished. Today, I would send Castro to St. Paul in exchange for Farmer. If Miranda continues to struggle on either offense or defense, Willi can help this club as a utility guy while someone else steps in at third base.
  18. Julien just doesn't have a place to play. The Twins aren't going to burn his service time sitting on the bench. Farmer should be back Tuesday, presenting a better option at third, a good shortstop backup and a good second base backup as well as a guy who really hits left handed pitching.
  19. I think today's game is important for the mindset of the team (and the fans). Coming home further ahead in the standings and with a .500 road trip is acceptable. So many guys are struggling to hit. Breaking out with a dozen or more hits would be ideal.
  20. With Farmer returning, I don't see a lot of at-bats for Donovan Solano either and Solano is a negative defensively. If Miranda and Farmer are both on the active roster, I can see some type of job sharing at third base, with Miranda moving over to first in the infrequent times the Twins face a left handed pitcher.
  21. Maybe platoon first baseman? Keep him in the lineup often, but not regularly at third and have him at first against left handers. Also, he could fill in if Buxton takes a day off.
  22. The finale will now be a big game for both teams. Playing .500 on the road against the two teams projected to be in the race for the Central would be satisfactory. Continuing Cleveland's streak of losing series would also be good for the Twins. There are lots of guys who are struggling--Vazquez, Gallo, Correa, Miranda, and Solano to name a few. There's enough talent to be a better than a middle-of-the-road offense. They can't rely so much on the home run ball and they need to put better fielders in the game.
  23. Bad defense and uncharacteristic lack of command by Gray. A bad pitch to Kwan by Alcalá. The club needs to score more ways than hitting homers. Hopefully Kirilloff and Farmer will help in that regard. Going into thee game the Twins had three more hits than their opponents through the year, but had outscored them by 29 runs. Some of that is home run disparity (+17) and walk disparity (+16).
  24. Somehow I don't want to see Pagan pitch in Cleveland, who else you got?
