  1. Fundamental baseball from both sides (offense/defense). Playoff baseball can be a one run games, but execution is key. Team baseball vs Hero ball usually wins.
  2. Polanco to not set his feet and deliver a strike = end result throwing error. Look at the replay from field level to see kind of what he saw and runner was still 10 feet or so away from base when ball hit Arraez's glove. Like Rosterman said, he had time to plant his feet and throw to first as well. Sloppy mechanics results in sloppy game play. Playing the shift on almost every batter is way overused. Earlier in the game if you played normal double play depth, would have had a 4-6-3 DP, but no we get a seeing eye single in the shift where double play position would have been. The late game bloop line drive to shortstop goes as opposite field single. OUCH
  3. Way over the top analytical managing vs sometimes you go with you gut. Jeffers has earned the right to not come out the game and Rocco has chosen to lift him in growing up moments. Jeffers in both at bats worked the count and got to pitches he liked and could put a good swing on them. Now results weren't in our favor but bat on ball and hit them hard. Garver, took 4 pitches with his bat on the shoulder. Some will question the strike zone, but in that at bat, after 2 pitches he should know anything close you swing and foul it off if you have to, to stay alive. Did nothing. Avila getting lifted for so called fan favorite 'Tuga is beyond belief. He has shown the tendency to swing at first pitches almost everytime. The announcers said curve ball will make you pull it into the ground and guess what, 1st pitch swinging wonder did just that. PLATE DISCIPLINE!... Jeffers is the only one who has it at catcher position. Garver is lost. Avila playing at all shouldn't happen. Austidillo wanting to play hero ball and feel like a Bomba killer is a reason he only had 18 at bats in regular season.
  4. Let the 28 man roster thoughts go wild now. Kirillof better lefty power pop bat for pinch hit vs a guy like Avila in late game situation. He has no history in bigs, opposing team will have no book on him. Interesting move for sure.
  5. Does Garver get the start? My gut tells me Rocco will put him in there for game one, don't agree with it, but my gut says he does. Avila shouldn't be on 28 man active for any playoff series. Defensive catcher that some say is the best on squad but he such a weak link at the plate. Jeffers, pleasant surprise and has the goods both offensive and defensive. Plate discipline by him is superior to the other two, not afraid of getting to 2 strikes to put ball in play or get his pitch. Let the fun begin tomorrow!
  6. I'm a fan of Jeffers when you read the back stories about being sponge, willing to try new things to become a better catcher. Not saying the other guys haven't done it either but it shows the student in Jeffers and his Physics background coming into play. In my other limited posts I talk about plate discipline and Jeffers has it. I believe all his or almost all of hits have come with 2 strikes. His 3 homers have been on the following counts: 1st - full count, 2nd 1-1 count and 3rd was 2-2 count. His ability to work the count, see pitches shows discipline. Shows discipline for his full game in general. Old philosophy of you shouldn't lose your job due to injury is commendable and getting Garver some reps is nice, but Avila should be odd man out.
  7. Best of 3, so the focus should be on who is top 2 in rotation and then figure out 3. If we all agree Maeda and Berrios, then shift the starts this week accordingly. Whoever is your 3, then adjust as well, wether Pineda, Hill, etc. I like the Maeda, Berrios, Pineda rotation. End the series in 2 games and hope other wild cards go 3 games, then you pick up an extra day of rest and can set up your 5 game rotation accordingly. Win the week, you play at home and give the Yanks a Bomb-ass whooping
  8. After last night, Yankees in 4 spot and Twins head to Yankee Stadium. Missed opportunities last night with other teams losing. Rocco's lineups are very puzzling. Too many analytic predictive models over playing guys that are more effective
  9. managerial moves are questionable lately. Need to mix up the batting order a little to generate some speed and power better than just looking for bombs to win games. Granted we would take 4-5 bombs to win but not sustainable come post season. Would move up Buxton to 5 and drop Rosario to 6th ahead of Jeffers at 7. Insert Wade at 2 hole to give Kepler a night off or two (struggling way to much for my liking). Wade works the count and puts ball in play. Need to put pressure on defense to make plays. Austidillo 1st pitch swinging is awful and puzzled by pinch hit role. Avila brings nothing to the plate. Have to win game one tonight to set the tone for weekend.
  10. Plate discipline is still lacking about this offense in general. Small ball a bad defensive team and see what happens. Pride gets in the way of some these guys looking to hit bombs what appears to be all the time. Times last night we could have moved a runner over and either popped up or struck out. No inclination to bunt a guy over. Call me old or old school. Kepler batting leadoff shouldn't be the spot for him. Spread speed and power throughout the lineup.
  11. hero ball last night and very poor plate discipline. Bighat stated it perfectly. My biggest concern and/or complaint is relying on the old Earl Weaver philosophy with the Orioles was the 3-run homer concept. Chicks dig the long ball but there are other ways to score. White Sox are error prone but we didn't put any pressure on them defensively. Swinging at multiple 1st pitches with runners on base instead of working the count, hitting inside out to move runners over, hell lay down an bunt once in awhile. Fundamental at bats didn't exist. Deserved to lose this one last night
  12. game tonight will set the tone for rest of series. Win tonight and confidence could be there to close out this short season on a high note. Control your own destiny is better than relying on some others for assistance. Take advantage, small ball the defense often and early and capitalize on deficiencies. Win the day, then the series, then the title!
  13. batting Sano in lead off spot surprises me somewhat. I would like to have seen some speed sprinkled around the lineup and ahead of big bats to generate some pressure on the opposing defense. Single to to gaps and speed from 1st could set up some 1st and 3rd situations. Small ball at times puts added pressure on defense to make plays. White Sox have shown they can sling around the diamond like little leaguers.
  14. Live out of market so watching games very limited. So with that being said, lineup and playing fundamental baseball seems to be far from existent. Do we move the runners over, bunt for example or do we rely way to much on a .200 hitter to break out from whatever lack of production they have to get a base hit? Station to station baseball when you are on a losing streak can jump start activity in the positive direction. Put the ball in play and make the other team work for the out. Swinging at pitches out of the zone, thus multiple K's is awful baseball. Time to bench some guys and let hungry players play the game. I wouldn't worry about walking Cruz if I was other team, not many bats in lineup would scare me if I was opposition.
