  1. I'd bet a beer Florimon could do it, and not look bad while doing so. Probably Carroll as well, although it would be silly to risk it for him.
  2. That you're not Cubs fans.
  3. Yeah, that does explain a great deal. In that case either Dozier or Florimon should get some reps in at second.
  4. While I, too, question the medical staff of this team (see the Pavano article), I think luckylager's post is about right. So essentially the answer is: "We just don't care that much." ....Which is an early indicator of soon-empty stadiums, bags over the heads of the dwindling actual attendees, falling TV ratings and ultimately long-term rearrangement of the professional team pecking order in a given market. Followed by the asteroid impact and the end of all life on Earth.
  5. If this was private practice there would likely be a malpractice suit brewing. I suppose the teams are indemnified in the CBA, though. You wonder when Nishioka began moonlighting as a doctor...
  6. I'll just say they both had their chances to succeed, and didn't get it done. And yes, Gray should probably be next. Looking at Vasquez makes sense, although I think it's a good bet Hendriks makes next year's opening rotation. As an aside, I really like what Florimon has done with his chance so far. Pretty much the exact opposite of Nishioka.
  7. Pretty much this. All I was saying is that while Diamond is the best pitcher in a bad team (and would be if his ERA was a full run higher) he's never going to lead a quality staff for a contender. This isn't a guy you can match up against legitimate No. 1 starters in the playoffs. To me, that's the closest definition of an "ace" although I really don't like using the term because of its ambiguity. What Diamond has proven is that he's a legitimate major-league starter and probably a guy you can slot in the middle of a good rotation. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'd say he's basically a left-handed version of Kevin Tapani. Which is pretty good, but not to be confused with Jack Morris or Frank Viola.
  8. When you get older it takes longer to heal. Been there, done that.
  9. Are you planning on making an offer?
  10. I don't think I'd want him to be a reliever. Too much risk coming in with someone already on base. But as a starter, keep running him out. Maybe hire a specialist for one offseason to work with him exclusively about reducing the walks. It either pays off or it doesn't.
  11. Besides, Plouffesaurus Rex carries so much more gravitas.
  12. He has to be a ton better on offense, and their is no speculative about it. Casilla is a damn solid MI, Mastro is not. You can hide a poor fielder at RF/LF/1B and even 3B. You absolutely can't hide one for SS/2B/CF. For a pitch to contact team like the Twins you really can't be rolling out bad defenders at key positions. Look at it this way. If they try it for a week or two and it fails, as you seem to think it will, that will end our discussions on the subject and we'll all be free to move on to all the more pressing issues in the Universe.
  13. My feeling is that if the players had a big problem with this it would be mentioned by the Player's Association. I don't think it would be the worst thing to have the term banned in the next CBA. But I'm not going to call for people getting fired over it either. This is an educational problem, not a knee-jerk one.
  14. I believe that's called /dev/null.
  15. I guess our working assumption is that he's already shown he can be a decent MLB 4th outfielder. There may wind up being a few of those with this team, though. What we're really asking for is a way to get him more plate appearances and see how that goes, and playing second is a way to do that. And it's a position that has been identified as upgradeable. Much like the Plouffe at third experiment. And Mastroianni has certainly displayed the speed and range that might make him pretty good at it.
  16. Absolutely. Take a chance and see if it pays off.
  17. Though I always regretted that Sadaharu Oh never played a season or two over here. I understand he and Harmon had developed a mutual respect.
  18. Of course we could get confused about whether it refers to Morneau, Diamond, Casilla or others. Maybe even Tony O. Nice to see the other, more tasteless, comment was removed.
  19. That would be sweet. I also wonder if Terry Steinbach could be lured.
  20. Pudge would be a heck of a catch. He can't pitch, unfortunately, but could help some of these kids develop into good, sound, ballplayers.
  21. Nope. It's probably a browser setting or add-on blocking the images.
  22. Since there's no chance then, cutting the payroll to like 60 million is a good thing then, right? Why waste good money on these stiffs.
  23. No, you're not. Saying stupid things to make a point just makes those posters look infantile. I think the board admins do pay attention to this, but they do have day jobs and lives too.
  24. I know it's unfair, but they got compared to them in the playoffs a few times, and found wanting. If we're going to ever challenge them, it's probably going to take a veteran core who's played together for a while. Or is the idea to make a run in 2018 or so?
  25. True. Successful teams, like say, the Yankees, do that. I suspect all the players mentioned above will be dangled, and see what kind of offers are available. How are you going to know what someone may bring in a trade without trying?
