  1. [i started a tangent in a thread about Twins prospect Kai-Wei Teng, and decided to split off the discussion to a non-Twins thread instead. ] I saw an intriguing study this week that showed UCL injury correlates more to Body Mass Index than to pitch velocity or age or number of pitches thrown. The study did not suggest anything more than correlation, nor what to do about it. Worrisome, in any case. https://community.fangraphs.com/an-analysis-of-the-relationship-between-pitcher-size-and-ucl-tears/
  2. Difficult to disagree with something I can not parse.
  3. Small world. I don't recognize the name but I'm pretty sure Talbott was at several of the companies I worked for. There can't be two people like him.
  4. Wade's been on our radar for a long time. I hope he grabs this opportunity.
  5. I can find video for only two of the three extra-base hits, but of those two (Brosseau and Lowe), I don't think anyone would have caught those on the fly for the third out. They were scorched, and landed in a hurry.
  6. Also, while I'm not a fan of viewing Wade as a center fielder, he could be used there in a pinch, which is more than I think with Rooker. Although Rosario and Cave would rank ahead of him, that extra bit of flexibility might matter, absent the 40-man issue that likely predominates the decision.
  7. This wouldn't explain the late-June swoons in 2017 and 2018, though.
  8. Willians wrung absolutely every drop out of his ability, to make that foul catch. A faster man would likely have been under it, perhaps without even a need for a leap. Not a totally easy play, but as the saying goes, "he makes the tough plays look difficult." I too enjoyed the fond reactions from his teammates, although I couldn't help inferring a little tinge of surprise when a less-than-gifted companion accomplishes something that most others take for granted. It's like Gibby's mom had told him before the game, "now, you boys have to let Willians play too. It's the nice thing to do."
  9. I heard Astudillo was optioned. *ducking*
  10. I enjoyed reading this off Hand comment.
  11. There will be a day when we all look back on this and laugh. Update: today is that day.
  12. And ANOTHER horrendous throw from RF.
  13. Overall, we're seeing some pretty bad throws from the Rays' corner outfielders.
  14. I have further edited the thread title, in case anyone new to it might wander by. I guess I could hide the thread, if it causes anyone heartburn.
  15. Doomtints made an important announcement today as well. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/32047-where-are-they-now-ex-twins-in-2019/?p=869041
  16. Keith Atherton too, a little further down the list. 1987 all over again?
  17. SABR's in San Diego this year and doesn't start until later this week. Let me know what day/time your presentation is, and I'll try to attend.
  18. If I'm GM, I don't want to mess with success in 2019. But Arraez has stepped forward and is in my plans for next year. So I'm in general agreement with the OP. Arraez has become the kind of player I keep, unless someone absolutely knocks me over with a trade offer. I trade prospects who haven't stepped forward, such as Gordon, and let the other team shoulder the risk, and if that means less in return, so be it. Schoop's been good this year, until the month of June, but that's too short a time to be making moves over - he'll probably bounce back and his defense has been good. If for some reason Schoop was integral to trading for a good starting pitcher, I'd consider it since I do have his replacement in mind, but it's doubtful a trade would work out that way. So in November I'd thank Schoop profusely for his contributions, make sure he knows he's invited to the WS Ring Ceremony next spring, and offer to give a glowing reference to his next employer.
  19. I did modify the thread title to reflect the uncertain validity of the report. As you said, we can remove it if events prove otherwise, although by that point there might not be much harm to it either if everyone is willing to have a laugh about it.
  20. The moderators have marked their calendars.
  21. Moderator's note: Let's please avoid characterizing fellow posters or groups of posters, and also not overstate one another's reaction to any given topic. This thread looks like the kind that will naturally attract its fair share of Hot Takes anyway, so don't add to the incentive by being combative from the outset.
