  1. So was Terry Ryan, and he was younger than Levine when he was promoted to GM. I don't think anyone derisively called him a wonderkid.
  2. It's more like saying, I'm not sold on his arm at SS but the manager keeps writing his name in the lineup so I guess I'll let Rocco drag me along on this one.
  3. Our front office......a year too early.
  4. Their patience has paid off, and now they reap that sweet sweet harvest of WAR.
  5. I'm not really a defender of Polanco's defense. But, it's good enough to let the manager write his name in the batting order every day. At SS, that is no small thing - "good enough" there has to be pretty good, no matter how big the bat. He's figured out how to minimize the liability of his arm, a little bit unconventionally for which he and coaches deserves credit, though I cringe every time he throws.
  6. If your purpose is to convince me to NEVER let go of ANY draft picks because eventually they WILL turn out, you have succeeded.
  7. You prefer that, to Lock Her Up?
  8. Yep. In his past 10 games he's batting .325 on a very reasonable BABIP of .323, and he adds enough other goodies to the base hits to have an OPS of .931 in that span. CALL HIM UP!
  9. You are too kind. I just forgot. Thanks for the addition.
  10. But seriously, the scouting info used by Out Of The Park indicates both have the tools to play corner outfield. Kirilloff might have a little more speed, Larnach might have a little more arm. Neither has the speed of Lamont Wade (who IMO doesn't have quite sufficient speed for CF). Larnach's arm is about on a par with Wade's (which isn't really special). None of the tools are stellar, all are adequate for keeping the bat in the lineup. If you had both players in the lineup, you'd probably put Kirilloff in left and Larnach in right. That's one take, based on someone else's serious attempt to provide reality to a mere game. (MLB.com's Prospect page basically gives them both averagish 50s for their defense except a 55 for Larnarch's arm.) I'll be interested to see others, especially eyewitnesses.
  11. They had a game Tuesday night. Sort of an exhibition, I guess you could call it - both leagues sent some of their better players. Seeing no mention of the outcome of this "friendly match", I thought I'd post a few nuggets about those of our guys who were invited to take part. I apologize if I'm repeating someone else's work here. Jorge Polanco batted ninth in the order. He thus came up to bat only twice before courteously offering his spot in the lineup to another fellow. Clayton Kershaw struck him out in the second inning. But in the fifth inning he legged out a single against Walker Buehler, resulting in an RBI for his efforts. Since the game was decided 4-3, this run is as good as any to point to as the deciding factor. I don't recall any balls in play that went his way, so the nation was robbed of a chance to savor his sidearm stylings. Jose Berrios pitched the third inning. He was greeted by a leadoff double at the hands of Ketel Marte, but proceeded to strike out the next two batters and then induced a harmless flyout. Good inning. Jake Odorizzi was on the premises but was not invited by the big kids to have a turn on the mound. Too bad for him. He'll just have to try again next year, I guess. He'll be a year older, maybe a little bigger. And that's... kind of it, I think. Anyone else have any observations to share?
  12. Looks like the initial draft of the Twins Daily Comment Policy. We had to tone down its absolutism, though. j/k
  13. Wouldn't it be fun if some parks had the pitcher's mound 60'6" from home plate, some parks had it 63', and others had it 59'? Conversely, we could ban the change-up.
  14. Is Corveland even still in the league?
  15. People get it. But the companies kind of overdo it, I think.
  16. If you remember Woodstock, then you weren't there.
  17. I have nothing of substance to contribute to the blueprint. I'll add a comment about how success should be measured, though: in addition to how things look on July 31, and then of course as the post-season passes, I'll be looking later on to how the Rule-5 Draft plays out. If we lose a couple of prospects, with a shrug of the shoulders to mean "hey, we can't add all our prospects to the 40-man, right?", it will invite scrutiny over the previous trade deadline. Best, then, to err on the side of slight overpays in trade - "you can't take it with you", so to speak. Just want to get that out there, so that it isn't 20/20 hindsight later on.
  18. Why not? It's a baseball skill. It's emphasized more over there, but it's a legitimate talent that currently is under-developed here. I don't want it as the highlight of the festivities - but as one of many events, I think it's fun.
  19. Didn't find much, with Google search combining terms like "confederate flag" and "aircraft carriers" and "world war", and I've got other things to do than conduct a snipe hunt, so you'll need to locate whatever references you have in mind if you want me to pay it any attention. Best I could find was a reference in a book, to some ostensibly friendly banter among various military men where sometimes a flag would be flown. (Page 54 if the link below doesn't take you there.) https://books.google.com/books?id=u-uPue9XdP4C&pg=PA54&lpg=PA54&dq=aircraft+carriers+%22World+war%22+%22confederate+flag%22&source=bl&ots=_NYdnKx_GY&sig=ACfU3U1YZQDZHCYPvInyrD80RgeIg0CBKw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjqnPv1vKjjAhVjleAKHQmeAwYQ6AEwCXoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=aircraft%20carriers%20%22World%20war%22%20%22confederate%20flag%22&f=false
  20. Ew. Ick. Ish.
  21. "Nothing But Air" - the bag has a picture of potato chips on it, but sure enough, it's nothing but air inside!
  22. I have never seen the medical community issue warnings about the health risks to players throwing or swinging at livelier baseballs. Maybe the teams will need to install netting around the players, as they do for fans further and further down the foul lines.
