  1. Hi. I'm looking for a gently moderated website where members don't try to adjust each others' behavior through veiled comments too much of the time. Any recommendations? The moderators here tend to be too heavy-handed in their satire.
  2. Amen to that. (Sometimes one gets tired of saying "concur".) On one hand, giving up that triple has different ramifications due to the on-base status when the guy comes in, and ideally you want your stat to reflect that. On the other hand, any pitcher worth his salt is going to *pitch* differently if he comes in with the bases loaded than if empty; one example that comes to mind is that he may stay away from his best breaking pitch in the dirt so as to not put that much pressure on his catcher to corral it if it gets away. "No single statistic" is going to capture that very easily.
  3. Mauer would be banned if he tried language like that here, but a link to a published article is OK.
  4. I would have nominated Nutraloaf. Cruel and unusual punishment, for anyone bothered by his pace.
  5. Normally it should not be a problem. To save a step, are you referring to this hard hitting piece (of satire)? http://www.twinkietown.com/2014/1/3/5269608/mauer-i-was-moved-to-first-base-because-of-my-stance-on-milk
  6. Would seem odd if the Twins were OK with him playing in the league for one team but only in the hopes that the team didn't make the playoffs. So it must be some issue with the Eagles team specifically?
  7. Over in another thread, someone was drawing a connection between the ad he was getting for the NRA, and the subject matter of that thread. I just didn't have the heart to 'splain it to him just then, that it probably has more to do with him than with TD or the thread topic.
  8. Might not have been him but he probably went to school with the guy.
  9. Steven Page. Drawing Steven Page. (Barenaked Ladies, lead singer, oh never mind...)
  10. "We don't need left-handed pitchers. We need pitchers who can get left-handed batters out." -- Anon (anyone with a source?)
  11. In fairness, in such a game only about 150 ever make it to the catcher.
  12. An adventurous spirit, thirsting to learn all that teh Interwebs can teach us.
  13. Apparently now it's 250,000,001.

    New here

Welcome! Make yourself at home, and post whatever's on your mind, whether as responses to someone else or by starting a new thread of your own. Basically all we ever ask is respectful discussion with your fellow Twins fans.
  15. 7. Brian Dozier’s Glorious Hair Paging ChiTownTwinsFan, paging ChiTownTwinsFan.
  16. If this explanation holds up, he's not the guy I'd want playing meaningful games in October or November. Fortunately, I have my doubts we can see into his soul when the camera is on him or when we're in the stands.
  17. Just finished listening to "what.". I think Bo lets the cat out of the bag about halfway through when he mentions Steve Martin and George Carlin in the bit about his left brain / right brain. Who was funnier, Martin or CK? I have no idea, they are so different. Bo isn't really standup in that light, more of a performance/concept artist, and at age 23 he already manages not to look small if compared to Martin. I look forward to seeing what he creates in the next 30 years and am sorry to be so late to the party already. / took me this long to watch a 1-hour video? Check the timestamps. Either I have a life or else I am real slow. Your call.
  18. Fun stuff. I like the one about Mariano not getting a save because he was awarded the win.
  19. I'm enjoying the first 4 minutes of what I found on YouTube and want to thank you for bringing him to my attention. My children have let me down, apparently.
  20. A more recent MLBTR post on the subject indicates the Twins haven't made an offer, whereas other teams have offered minor league spots. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/quick-hits-defenses-twins-santana.html If indeed Santana is "close" to signing with someone, the Twins would be long shots according to this POV. Fortunately, as mentioned elsewhere, the rumor process may have garbled what "close" actually means in his case.
  21. Strikes me as second-guessing. We don't talk about the times the trainers take a day-to-day approach with a player and it works out. We know that the medical staff is on Terry Ryan's radar, and that's an area I think he has more information than we do on which to judge their efforts.
  22. Moderator's note: this thread is about Franklin, with the question about trading Hicks for him. Some tangential discussion in threads is generally fine, but the mutual antagonisms in this tangent don't serve any useful purpose to the topic, so please end it.
  23. Moderator's note: let's leave out the mind-reading, please, as well as the hyperbole.
  24. More than just in jeopardy. The deal is off, and Balfour is talking about filing a grievance. Could get uuuuugly.
  25. Moderator's note: the line is purposely ambiguous where the TD Comment Policy on personal attacks comes into play, but this post needs to be the last of its kind. You can discuss Pelfrey versus Baker, but stay *far* away from the line questioning the person.
