  1. If Maddon doesn't come to MN, the reason had better not be "he wanted too much money."
  2. This line from mlbtraderumors.com made me chuckle: "The only open managerial seat at present is the Twins’, though Minnesota appears to be well down the line in its search." Yeah, the Twins are so well down the line on their search that Joe Maddon is just too late to the party. Tough luck.
  3. If there's any interest on Maddon's part at all, the Twins should pounce on this.
  4. I just don't get it. I'm not questioning whether or not he was hurt, and I'm sure he wanted to keep his spot on the roster. What I don't get is why he didn't report it after he was sent down. If the injury was the problem he had plenty of time to get his season back on track.
  5. On the spelling thing, it can be hard to tell when someone is deliberately getting it wrong or just unfamiliar with the player. Let's be honest, they've been through a lot of bit players recently and there hasn't been a whole lot of reason for the casual fan to "Get to Know 'Em."
  6. The benefit to the Twins in the Morneau trade was essentially the money they saved on him in 2013. The players were filler. So I guess if you care that the Twins saved a few million, it was a good trade. I'm still confused by the Welker double deal, but whatever.
  7. I don't think Schafer should have any kind of lock on a 25-man spot... he's a fourth outfielder, and his August was a mirage. Guys like him, and Fuld, and Mastro, and Presley are readily available, and if any available outfielder represents an upgrade on the spare outfielder spot the Twins should take them and let Schafer go. Just don't replace him with a clubhouse chemist like Bartlett.
  8. If I was running the Twins like a video game, I'd work to trade Mauer. Since I'm pretty sure that won't happen, I'd move him to the outfield and put Vargas at first.
  9. Nothing against any of those guys, but if that's Powers's dream staff then why fire Gardy in the first place?
  10. What new food items will be at Target Field in 2015? ...you know, that just sounds like a stupid question as I'm saying it. How about, if the 2014 payroll was enough to compete, how much lower could it get and still be considered competitive? Where is the "floor" payroll for a competitive team?
  11. If you're paying the full ticket price for mid-to-late season baseball tickets to a bad team, you're doing it wrong, Brian.
  12. Well... for one thing, it probably is more of a talking point with other teams than you might think because you probably don't follow every single team... I would guess there's a fair amount of fan complaints about the Indians payroll, or the Marlins payroll, or the Rays, A's, Padres, what have you. A big reason why it's such a huge talker amongst Twins fans is that we (the taxpayers) built them a palace hoping that they didn't have to play budget-ball anymore, but now it's the Twins' oppressive TV deal holding them back (because Victory Sports was such an Edsel).
  13. It's a bit ironic that Pinto took a backseat to Suzuki because of pitch-framing and throwing out runners. Those aren't exactly 'Zuke's strong suits either.
  14. I'm familiar with the concept, but there's nothing uniquely Twins about it. To call it the Twins Way smacks of the team's hubris.
  15. Regardless of who coined the term, to act like the Twins didn't fully embrace the myth of the Twins Way is completely disingenuous.
  16. Plouffe might be a good defensive LF... but he's already a good defensive 3B. My suspicion is that Sano is destined for first base, but I don't think it'll ruin him to shag a few fly balls in left, and it wouldn't hurt to... *gasp collectively*... ask Mauer to do that.
  17. I'm pretty sure the draw of the Fox Sports North (or Anywhere Else) Girls isn't the TV ratings so much as the public events they would otherwise inexplicably show up at, implying that males can get a "chance" with them in person.
  18. What is his opinion on the idea of banning the use of tobacco products by major and minor-league players and coaches in and around the ballpark?
  19. I'm not saying that I'm 100% for calling them up immediately at the start of the season. I just think that Aaron Hicks is immaterial to the question.
  20. I really don't think the Hicks situation should weigh on the decision to promote Buxton and/or Sano at all. Hicks was never as good a prospect as either of those two, and sometimes a guy who looks like he's ready will come up and struggle. From what the team and media says about Hicks, it's not his skills that are holding him back. He's got some personality issues. I'm a big believer in expecting success before reacting to failure. Holding back Buxton or Sano because of Hicks seems like expecting failure. If they come up and struggle they won't be the first prospects to do so. I think they can both deal with their confidence being shaken a bit, at least better than Hicks has.
  21. I'm sure some will argue that the Royals mortgaged their future to go all-in. I respect the Royals for seizing an opportunity while they have one and not waiting for it to fall in their lap.
  22. Not to knock Glynn, or Mientkiewicz and Molitor for that matter, but I'm waiting for Ryan to interview someone not already in the Twins' employ.
  23. The only reason I can think of for the Fox Sports Girls existence is the lowest common denominator. They're there to uh... *spark* the male viewership. My suggestions to Fox Sports - don't expose them to bright lights, don't spill water on them, and for the love of God, don't feed them after midnight.
  24. I suspect that many reports of velocity readings in the minor leagues are trumped up. Probably not the whole story, but it could be part of it.
  25. Yup. I've got to see Sano first come up, and also prove he's got the chops to handle third base before I'd even consider it. I'd even consider having Sano take reps in left field just to keep Plouffe at third.
