  1. Arcia to DH, send down Santana and give SS to Escobar, call up Buxton now, Vargas to 1B and Mauer to LF.
  2. This was my thought as well. The other side of letting the kids work on things in the minors is potentially giving important ML roles to guys who we already know aren't very good and punting on the first couple months of months of the season. I don't think you need eight plus weeks and a great scouting mind to know that guys like Schafer and Boyer are terrible plan "A"s.
  3. True, and admittedly I was going to add to my post "but then who bats leadoff," but it occurred to me that anyone else couldn't be worse there.
  4. I'd be fine with letting Santana knock the rust off defensively. He's got an excuse for that. I'm more concerned about the offense or lack thereof batting leadoff. I don't think it would be jumping the gun to move him to 9th.
  5. If I described the process that ended in a bratwurst, the vegetarian chili might not sound so unappetizing by comparison.
  6. Stick them in left field or let them stew in the minors until they're 40.
  7. I'll admit it's no "Meet the Mets, meet the Mets, step right up and greet the Mets," but it's a solid fight song. Not worth tossing your Chicago dogs over.
  8. Are you sure it's the same guy? Our Kendrys Morales looked like he ate this one with the Royals.
  9. With fare like that, I may have to become a White Sox fan. Let's go, go-go White Sox, we're with you all the waaay...
  10. Because there's actually three of them... Mary and Ashley have an identical twin named Kate. Just like Elvis.
  11. Shout out to the Cool-A-Coo at Dodger Stadium... two oatmeal cookies sandwiched with ice cream and dipped in chocolate.
  12. Ballpark food is pretty sparse when you're a vegetarian... unless you want some sweets or a salty snack. Can't really have dinner there. I've always loved the malt cups. They're pretty well hidden at TF, but you can find them. Hammond Stadium introduced a black bean burger this year. It was amazing. I hope they bring it north.
  13. Re: the Hunter signing... I believe it was about 75% marketing and 25% of Terry Ryan's nostalgia and wistfulness... The same attitude that brought back Jason Bartlett to rally the troops from the bench... and that was convinced that Jason Kubel wasn't cooked. Remember when the team was good? Those guys were on the team, therefore bringing them back must make the team better. Ah, those were the days.
  14. Any decent defensive RF could have caught that ball. It did look to me like he took a bad route.
  15. I hope the cavalry is coming over the hill soon. This group looks like it can easily top 100 losses this year, especially if they keep getting pwned by the division rivals.
  16. I don't understand that pitch selection. After Martinez waved at a slider, with a 1-2 count, Zuke calls for a fastball... seems to me you go with the slider again...
  17. All I was saying is that if Nolasco had pitched a good game yesterday, the elbow discomfort might seem a little more tolerable. You're assuming that Nolasco's LA comment means he wants out. If he needs to pitch well to get traded, it's a moot point. Due to injury, plain crappiness, or both, he has been unable to do so for over a year now.
  18. This always seems to happen after a particularly bad outing. I understand that pitching hurt can diminish one's effectiveness, but I wonder if Nolasco would be having the MRI if he had pitched well.
  19. I would add Jordan Schafer to the list of AAAA players on the current roster. A lot of the guys you listed weren't Plan A. They were called up mid-season due to injury or ineffectiveness. The real test for this season is who is called up in those situations. Will it be the top prospects, or more low-upside journeymen? The Pelfrey over May decision has me a bit discouraged.
  20. Whenever this test was, presumably it was the most recent test. It's possible that Santana was using previous to then, but he's been around a while and I'm sure this is not the first PED test he was required to take. As for voiding his contract, that's just not how things work right now. I bet the Yanquis would have been all over voiding A-Rod's contract if that was ever an option. I'm disappointed that Santana is suspended and doubly disappointed that Pelfrey is back to the rotation. I've seen plenty of him. TR said that he went with Pelf because Pelf outpitched May in spring training, which is true, but it's also true that Pelf outpitched Milone, who got the open spot. My interest in this team just took a nosedive. I really want to get excited, but they're not giving us much to be excited about.
  21. I know you weren't being serious, but the suspension also makes Santana ineligible for playoff rosters this season.
  22. .250/.285/.370... the BA will go down and the lack of walks will continue.
  23. .250/.310/.315. He'll be OK, but the Twins need a long-term answer at catcher and it isn't Zuke.
  24. The Twins approach to team building reminds me of how the Royals used to do things. They hype all of their big prospects that are on the cusp, but then bring in a bunch of middling, stopgap veterans like Jose Guillen, Gil Meche, Miguel Olivo, and Bruce Chen. Maybe the prospects aren't ready, but I believe that players can't be ruined forever by an early call up. Even established players struggle at times. If a slump can kill your confidence, then you probably weren't going to be a good player anyway.
  25. Correct. I guess my point is that a veteran guy like Pelfrey should know that an open competition is never as open as it sounds in this business.
