Joe Ryan was sick, they should bring up Zebby or Festa. Twins swept BAL as I predicted. Twins have a good team, but as I wrote in a blog, https://twinsdaily.com/blogs/entry/23959-will-clark-rant/ , SF has changed from weird analytics to a Buster Posey baseball smart type of system. That move has revolutionized the team. On paper, Twins may have a much better team, but I'd be happy if the Twins can come out with 1 win.

My original research that I did which wasn't AI, showed the results that I gave with BR stats to back it up on a past post. I'm sorry I couldn't find that past post to confirm it. I only used the AI statement with BA as a resource because it confirmed my original findings. I can't explain the discrepancy but I admit that BR stats that were presented are different from what was I originally found & under those pretenses, I admit I was wrong, & leave it as it is.

IMO, the Saints game could be more about disappointing performances from their pitchers (that included C Lewis & Tonkin) on both sides. Love Prielipp's performance & too I would like to see more innings but the focus has to be keep him on the mound.

Has Time Run Out For These Two Twins?
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Both were good trade bait, But again that ship has sailed. Julien has been given every opportunity & have been propped up to succeed but has failed. With the hype still connected to Julien we could still get someone of value if used with another player. I agree, I'd never say never for Julien but for him to come back he'll have to reinvent himself, both as a different hitter & 1Bman. The deck has been stacked against Miranda. He can come back very easily as a 1Bman but not with this organization. Hopefully the next. Right now his trade stock is very low, not worth trading him. -
I only use AI only because it confirmed my original research & it used BA as a resource. I admit they don't line up with BR now.

I recognized the Twins' 10-5 record against CWS & LAA, & won the series against struggling BOS, in lieu of Lewis & Castro's return & struggling BAL after. But we got swept by struggling ATL & lost 3 games to CLE, IMO we could have won all those games, even w/o Lewis. We lost those close games because of the failure of doing the little things. I also recognize the success of Buxton, Jeffers, Bader & France; I recognize the resurgence of Correa & even Vazquez. But IMO we need to beat teams better than bad & struggling. We need to elevate our game. That's what I want.

FACT- AI Overview In 2025, DaShawn Keirsey Jr. has started in three games with the Minnesota Twins. He has played in a total of six games for the Twins, including those three starts, according to Baseball America. No matter how much you refute the truth to support your narrative doesn't make it true. I never said that Keirsey was a superstar rookie like you who can hit w/o any regular ABs. Even many superstars with regular ABs take a while. How can you expect Keirsey to do better in very difficult conditions? Until he gets a fair shot, nobody, even you, can judge him. As a faithful Twins fan, all I want is the Twins to win. That means putting players in the game that can help us win games, that means looking past tangibles into the intangible and with time the tangibles will also come around. That's my point which you missed.

I cut the other text short because I wanted to finish on a positive note. Sometimes it seems that Baldelli thinks of himself as a chess master. I applaud him for his moves last night, they were moves that any manager should make. But there are times when he overthinks a situation or has moves predetermined before the game (like taking a pitcher out too soon or PH too soon) & the result is undesirable. He is too dependent on stats on his spreadsheet & is biased towards some players. He needs to step away from his notebook & try to visualize the intangibles, & what lineup plays the best together to win games, especially the tough ones. Keirsey has started 3 games, Twins won all 3. The last 2 games he got a hit each against red-hot NYM team. He has hardly played since. Keirsey needs regular ABs at bats to adjust to MLB. Someone told me that MLB is about winning not development (adjusting). MLB is about continuous adjusting, a good manager knows how to balance both winning & allowing the player to adjust to the ever-changing MLB. Maybe what I have most difficulty with Baldelii is when he raises the white flag (like he's forfeiting the game) by resting Buxton, Correa & Lewis all in the same day! Having Vazquez catch with all the bench players playing. That's not fair to the team or the bench players or the fans. You have to manage to win. These players need rest but not all in the same game. I hope we sweep BAL. We are winning with Keirsey & Lewis in the game, we need to be patient with them & allow them to get into their groove so we can beat tough teams like SF, who is coming up. One sure way to create fire, chemistry & morale among the ranks is when an in-house player is doing well.

The position players & pitchers have been playing very well & we've been winning games. So what is the difference from before to now (besides the absence of Julien & Gasper at 2B)? It's the addition of Lewis & Castro. There has been a lot of fuss over Lewis, but it's been Castro who has been getting the hits. Lewis is 0-6, hasn't been that great on defense or on the bases but Lewis still brings intangibles to the table that help the team to win, like fire & chemistry. If Baldelli went only by his spreadsheet, Lewis would be sitting on the bench & soon be sent back to AAA. Sooner or later, Royce will be 100% & be tearing up the league but until then he'll still help the team to win. (to be continued)

That was some play by Varland. I marveled at how he could see that it was a problem play & the athlete that he is, he went for it & came up with the play. BAL came up with a lot of INF hits but Varland put a stopper on this one.

Of course, I don't want any Twins at risk of any career-ending injury. I believe I'm one of the strongest advocates of keeping our players healthy (& highly criticized for being so). For the 3rd time, it's a process. You get them off the IL then you ease them into their positions. If they have arm problems, you play them at 1B/ DH until they fully recover. If you have leg problems, like hamstrings, then I'd restrict their sprinting & I'd remove them from the OF (how Martin originally got hurt). If you are waiting for Lewis to be a 100% before he'd start his rehab, you'd have to wait a very long time before he makes back to MLB.

So you are saying that all restrictions are off Lewis? Tell him to forget about it, sprint your heart out? You are crazy. It's all a process. Martin is no different than Lewis. When you are stealing a base, you are not running, you are sprinting. That's what we are talking about.

You probably know by now that I'm a big in-house supporter. I'd love to see them bring McCusker up & him do well. But right now, the OF is looking pretty good with Buxton, Bader, Larnach, Keirsey & Castro; I just don't see it right now. Last year, with Margot on the roster, we really needed Keirsey, but that really didn't happen until everything was lost. Many say that Keirsey, being 27 last year, that analytics say that he has no chance because of it & Twins are right for not giving him a fair chance. How is McCusker (27) any different? Do you think McCusker can do anything if he's given the same chance as Keirsey? Let him only play against LHPs & PH for him when a RHP comes in. Many become enamored with HRs & many compare McCusker to Sano because of his Ks. The League has hitters like them figured out; they are less likely to make it in the MLB. Keirsey is more of a pure hitter & he has difficulty adjusting to the MLB pitchers (most rookies would) under those impossible situations, IMO, McCusker will have more difficulty & wouldn't be able to contribute defensively or on the bases.
-
It's all a process, I'm surprised you don't know that! Many players are often very quickly reinjured because they over do it & or not managed properly. But your main goal is to refute anything I say about Martin, not to make sense.

I looked at the highlights, Pregame, Lewis was all smiles & Wallner was down in the dump. I was wondering about Correa's wrist, but looking at that HR, if he had problems, they didn't seem so with that AB.

Lewis went 0-4, even so, his & Castro's presences had a big impact on last night's game. As of late, recently quiet, captain of the team Correa spoke up, & said "the team now seems complete". It just goes to show that personal stats are often a small part of the equation. While I'm speaking on this subject, after deciding to give Bader a rest, why wasn't Keirsey used to sub him? Twins always win their games when he starts & he desperately needs regular ABs. Castro is better at 2B or 3B. Priority should always be to develop our in-house players. Keirsey should sub Buck, Bader & Larnach more often to get enough regular ABs for him to adapt to MLB. And no, I'm not his father. Unlike the CLE blowout, they should have swept them, but didn't have enough chemistry to sustain it; Twins should sweep BAL (pending any really bad managerial bonehead moves). And enter with a red-hot Giants series in a better situation than the red-hot NYM series (Keirsey started in both our wins). We still have a long way to catch DET or even qualify for the playoffs, but now there's tangible hope.

Cartaya was sent to the instructional complex; they should have sent Julien down with him to learn 1B. Why keep him at 2B (Twins have done very well w/o him the last 3 games) when he has no future with the Twins there? Martin did what he usually does: got on base and scored against a very good SP (Saints didn't score for another 5 innings after the SP left). He's a spark plug that the Twins desperately need, a spark plug, a leadoff hitter & a stable 2Bman. Twins don't need an OFer, they needed a 2Bman in a very fragile INF to start the season. Why so determined to keep Martin in the OF when 2B is his most natural position & is more needed there? Another thing, why orchestrate a double steal with Martin on his 1st day back from IL? That's insane. McCuster hadn't stole a base this season, why place Martin in a place of jeopardy? Didn't Toby get the memo to take it easy on Martin? Maybe there was no memo sent because the Twins don't care. They are blinded to what they really need. If it's not programmed in their spreadsheet they can't see it. It's the little things that help you win the close games. That's why the Twins lose so many of them. One more thing, where is Miranda? Why isn't he playing 1B? Maybe it's more than a sore hand. Maybe it's a sore shoulder that's been hindering his hitting. We need him back healthy & able to take France place at 1B. France needs to be placed at DH & learn to be good there, not 1B.

The bomba squad came about because of the juiced ball & something organic that grew among the hitters. The problem the next year, the juiced ball was gone & management tried to force something unnatural on the team to replicate it & that usually doesn't work. They have been trying until last year & finally gave up, but still are suffering the repercussions from that philosophy.

Edouard Julien and the Very Hard Game
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great job Nick. Julien is a very likable guy, I wish the best for him. Some may think otherwise, because I've been critical of his placement at 2B, that sprint speed isn't the same as range, his instincts & ball-handling IMO are lacking to be a good 2Bman. Twins figured they could hide him & failed to pivot from that idea after the shift ban. I advocated for switching him to 1B since MiLB. Twins thought that if his bat played there, his glove wouldn't matter. Now his bat doesn't play there, then now what? "He beat them with his brain" - I think you got the wrong part of anatomy. Eye IMO, is better, because you don't have time to think. He has a great eye. Laying off difficult pitches in the zone has been his Kryptonite, that the league has capitalized on. He now needs to recalculate those pitches & try to foul them off. Like you said MLB isn't easy. Julien's trade value has taken a big hit, so my hope is that he finally learns 1B & adjust his hitting as I advocated in the beginning of the year. INF defense, especially on the right side, is a liability. IMO, Twins' failure to address it at the beginning of the season, is one reason we aren't doing so well. -
'23 we had a great core. '24 Falvey tinkered with that core & failed to trade to cover our holes. On paper, we have looked great, the problem is maintaining that core & the chemistry that comes with it. We have been close in a great share of our games, but the problem is the fire is gone & it's been hard to maintain the momentum to take us over. Managing the team & developing our support group is the biggest problem. The continuation of dismantling the core won't help, it'll only make it worse. The addition of Bader, France & Coulume was beneficiary, but I'd manage them a little differently. I didn't like their splurge on the acquisition of rejects, hoping one would stick (like they did last year with the BP).

Keirsey has officially started in a grand total of 3 games this season. Twins won all 3 games (I guess the win stat doesn't count), he got hits in his last 2, against red-hot NYM. A player can contribute in many ways, almost all his games he has played in were close except a few that Twins won & a couple in the beginning that he was put in when the game was already a blowout. Love your example of Robin Ventura, Greg. There are many examples of good MLBers who had bad hitting starts even after given many regular ABs. Keirsey hasn't been given enough regular ABs to amount to anything.

You hit the nail on the head, Bigfork. IMO, the best thing for his injury is to keep his muscles moving, warm & stretched out. Sitting on the bench, cold, between ABs, then commanding his hamstring to sprint on the bases, is a recipe for disaster. If Lewis injured his arm, then this would make perfect sense but not his leg. Also, Lewis's personality isn't one to sit on the bench. To gain the most from Lewis's enthusiasm is to have him on the field as much as possible. IMO, this isn't the time to move Lewis off 3B. Doing so could also cause further team chemistry damage, but none of this on the spreadsheet, so Baldelli might just do it.

A lot of games sitting on the bench never made a rookie into a MLBer, if you think that you are wrong. It takes a lot of regular ABs, period.
