  1. Last year the BP started out slow from ST and Coloume' was absolutely terrible. Because of the prior 2020 shortened season I advocated for a strong long relief corp to help eat up innings and take the burden off the rotation and the failing short relief. They had only Dobnak as long relief (at the same time forcing him to rely on his experimental slider that proved disasterous both in production & injury) and used him primarily as mop up. Instead of rethinking their position of relying intensively on the rotation for extensive innings and a failing BP led by Colume' (they should have removed him as closer) they doubled and tripled down on their strategy by trying to save face on new acquisitions (Colome', Happ and Shoemaker). For many years the Twins have abandoned the use of long relief and they have suffered greatly because of it. If by chance they make it to the post season, the pitching has been totally sapped of their strength, thus contributing to the horrific 18 straight post season losses. This year they talk about piggy-backing, in the beginning of the season I'd like to keep all the SPs to be pitched on limited innings until they are totally stretched out. To be successful with this new strategy we need a large rotating long relief corp, I recommend 6 pitchers. I'd include Smeltzer (that can be used as spot starter) and Alcala (that can be used as high leverage short relief). I have high hopes in this piggy-back system and the quality of our BP but again I stress for the Twins to put more importance on long relief, for this to really be successful.
  2. I've been very big on SWR. I'm very happy that he's had the chance to show what he can do. He'll rise very quickly.
  3. ???? don't understand your rationale, TB needs power hitters we need a 4th OFer/ CFer sub, pure and simple. Don't complicate it.
  4. Some people are in love with Snell, I agree he's average. I'm not trading Kepler for an average pitcher no matter what. I'd trade Kepler + another Twin on the 40 man for a frontline pitcher otherwise forget it.
  5. Can both Rooker and Garlic and find a better 4th OF/ CF sub option... I'd like to send Sanchez down to work on his defense and hitting.
  6. IDK Brett Gardner, if he's a plus defender at CF, RH hitter to platoon against LHPs and can pinch run especially with the return of the ghost runners. I'm all in for it. But our need at CF back up and TB need for power hitters plus trading from our 40 man is a win/win/win.
  7. I started a thread beginning of last season about Kepler in CF, I thought he looked uncomfortable there at CF. 1st I heard reports that he was OK there, so I thought that everything is fine. But later it came out that he wasn't comfortable there. It wasnt his preferred position. Last year they said we were so deep in the OF with Cave, Kiriloff, Larnach, Garlic, Rooker, Arraez and Celestino. That depth was not quality or MLB proven and that proved disasterous especially at CF. Celestino and Martin have a lot of potential which makes makes me optimistic about our future there but because they aren't MLB proven yet I'm uneasy of putting all our trust on them this year. How do you know that TB aren't open to trade? Is it the same source that said the A's weren't trading Manaea? But yet the A's gave away Manaea to the Padres, you can't believe the retoric that comes out from the FO. There are rumors about both Margot and Kiermaier, wether the Twins can make a trade is 1st they have to try 2nd they have to persist.
  8. Stringer, I get very uneasy when this FO doesn't plan for injuries. I'd like the best team out there at all times. Although Kepler is our best replacement for Buxton, he's not comfortable at CF which IMO we take hits with his defense and offense there plus the downgrade at RF. Kepler will take all he has to cover CF much less take up the slack at both LF & RF. TB is very deep at CF with (last year of arbritation) Margot, (salary dump candidate) Kiermaier and a couple of MLB ready prospects. TB needs bats which Twins have a ton. A small trade like this shouldn't be that dificult to pull off (although this FO love to hoard bats) To have a productive rotation and short relief especially early in the season, we need a very strong long relief. So I'd like to see 5 SPs, 6 long relief (flex) and 5 short relief, Pitchers that are most stretched out will be a premium. And Smeltzer is IMO the most stretched out and would be super important to the long relief, dropping him is a big mistake. Lack vision for quality mlb ready CF depth and a strong long relief corp are 2 of the main reasons we did so poorly last season. My hope was that this had learned from last year but apparently they have not.
  9. We don't have anyone good as a 4th OF that comes close to sub Buxton, thats what we need. We despitely need to trade for a CFer to back up Buxton. Smeltzer is our best option at long relief who can rack up the innings, he's probablly the most stretched out pitcher. He at his top form, ahead of the game because he had a couple of extras weeks to do so. So why not take advantage of it and bring him up and take advantage of it and not send him down and wait for the hitters to catch up. He deserves to stay with the team, makes no sense to me!
  10. There has been a lot trades going on both big & small. My hope is they trade for a CF sub and front line SP. But unless teams approaches them with a trade that's fits their evaluations they won't buck their mindset no matter how it benifits the team.
  11. Smeltzer had another great day so I'm confirming my vote, he definitely needs to be part of the long relief corp. Gordon had a great day and I'm comfirming my vote for him as utility. I'd rather have him as 4th OF/ CF sub rather anyone else that's in the discussion (not saying we shouldn't look outside the org.
  12. These 3 pitchers I see as short relief insurance. Where I hope the Twins will focus is on long relief, there is our secret to succeed and give our young prospects a chance to shine, Plus a great arena to evaluate them.
  13. Tool for tool right now I say Buxton is better, only difference is Trout is more durable. If they play comparitively the same amount of games Buxton wins in my book.
  14. I'd like to trade a couple of guys off the 40 man and get a for real CF back up. The only person that IMO should have a chance off the 40 man IMO is Smeltzer. He pitched pretty well thru ST. He can pitch long relief until he can't then put him on waivers. He's pass thru waivers before, he should again. These non 40 man roster guys has had 2 extra weeks of getting stretched out and coaching, they should have a leg up on everybody else.
  15. I agree pretty much with these predictions, I expect DET to win more games tho.
  16. It's Archer's destiny to shine in MN. If Archer had come to MN instead of PIT back when, he would have developed into that ace that everyone expected him to be. Alas that didn't happen but he's here now. Is he 100%? I don't know, he says he is. Could he be that work horse he once was? IDK, he could eventually be. Could he be an ace? IDK, he could still become one. All I know if he's used right , he'll shine here in MN. Plus be a positive mentor to our young pitchers. God bless you Chris!
  17. Hope Sanchez can turn it around both hitting & catching (I like his arm) because DH is by far our deepest position where here is the best position for many of our players regrettably. Wish we were as deep at SS, CF and catching.
  18. Nice view of his release point, very unique with nice action. I'm surprised that he's the opener but the coaching would know better than me. Hope he's able to keep ball in the park that Buxton can run them down. Excited to see Archer pitch today, not expecting much since he's behind the hitters in ST but hoping he's not too bad. Go Twins!
  19. MY post isn't about our starters SS Correa or CF Buxton, they are part of the reason why we aspire to compete. This post is about our lack of MLB proven quality of depth in our OF beyond our starters especially CF. Last year we put all our trust in Cave and all our unproven rookies to supplement Buxton & Kepler and how did that work out? There is a chasm between Buxton and whoever we have to replace him. 2022 we won't have the "juiced ball" and we won't have a shorten season to aid us so we have to deal with our weaknesses. We all want Buxton to play the season healthy, need very little rest and be on his game for the post season but that's unrealistic. To keep Buxton healthy and rested we need a MLB proven CF as back up. I love Celestino, Martin and Lewis, they are a big part of our near future but they aren't MLB proven yet. This problem is so easy to solve if they make an effort. Most teams have better plan D at CF than our plan B
  20. Let's just get by, seems like the motto of this FO (and others) at critical positions SS, CF and catching. Depending too much on out of position players and unproven rookies to get us by , then use injuries as excuses for losing. Injuries shouldn't be used as excuses, those loses weren't due to injuries it was due to lack of evaluation and importance of depth at those positions. We can't afford to lose any games because we were so overmatched to ever get to and compete in a post season game. We need the best possible defense out there especially when we have so many young and unproven pitchers.
  21. I think we can have a tremendous high leverage BP but a lot of it depends on how much they maximize their long relief to keep the short RPs & SP from burning out.
  22. If your bar is Cave, I say yeah Kepler is the next Trout, But if you're looking at a CF sub on a competive team, Kepler doesn't cut it because he isn't comfortable there, so you are taking a hit both defensively and offensively then we're taking a hit at RF. With Buxton and Kepler they can take up the slack w/ whosoever in LF. But w/o Buxton in CF and Kepler there. We are lucky if Kepler handle just CF must less take up the slack that's left in both LF & RF, it's a losing proposition. There are a lot of better CFers out there you just need to look. It'd be just lot easier if they looked at the start of the offseason.
  23. 2 catchers (Jeffers, Godoy) if Sanchez is serious about improving he'd go to AAA to work on both his hitting & behind the plate. 4 OFs (Buxton, Kepler, Kiriloff and a CF via trade) 5 INFs (Correa, Polanco, Sano', Arraez, Urshela) 1 Utility (Gordon) 5 SPs (Gray, Archer, Bundy, Ober, Ryan) 11 RPs 6 long relief (flex) (Duran, Smeltzer, Cotton, Jax, Romero, Alcala) 5 short relief (Talyor, Duffy, Smith, Thielbar, Stashak) Smeltzer had a good ST, I'd bring him up to start, if he sours I'd DFA him - he should clear waivers again, Stashak not sure of, I'd DFA him if he doesn't work out- here again he should clear waivers. Alcala could also be used as short relief Winder is my 1st call up at either SP or long relief.
