  1. Yes, Falvey repeats pretty much everything he says. "We have a championship team with talent. .... we like our team, etc. Nothing new. Believe him? Now I think you want to start a discussion on that. I'll bow out. Most people were suggesting trying to keep the players but acknowledging the need for change. The Doom is sure to come if Falvey rolls it back once again or do people believe the third time is a charm.
  2. Agree with much of what you say, but none of these players are established players in my opinion and thus not what I would call "core" guys. Way too many ifs to every name. The players I have the most confidence in to perform in 2026 if given the chance are: Keaschall, Jenkins, Gonzalez (DH), and Culpepper. This will draw ire and disagreement but that is just one person's opinion. I'm not ready to call any of these guys core players though. Ton of ifs in that short list.
  3. Anduhar is really not a guy to own a glove. The Athletics have Brent Rooker as their DH. If Anduhar was even just a bad fielder instead of terrible one the A's would have kept him. Yes, sign Anduhar as your DH. No, do not allow him to play in the field.
  4. If Lewis why not Julien or Clemens or Lee or Wallner or Larnach? If Keaschall, why not Martin or Roden or Outman or Jenkins or Rodriguez or Gonzalez or Fitzgerald? I may like Lewis and Keaschall quite a bit but they really have proven themsleves to this point. We know if Buxton is on the field he will be decent, we can't know that yet with any other guy. We hope though.
  5. I'm always a little flummoxed by attempts to identify a winner/loser in trades. The purpose, ostensibly, is that a trade improves the organization. As such, most trades cannot be reasonably evaluated for quite some time. In fact the conversation on this thread is largely speculative in nature about the players involved suggesting if this guy does that and so on. Are the Twins better now? Will they be better a year from now? The first question is a short term answer which seems pretty cut and dried. The second question cannot be answered at this time. If transactions are completed for a positive outcome in mind, both teams can accomplish their goals and thus are both winners. I'm not sure how one keeps score on trades.
  6. Yes, and I have been pounding change since the team went into a funk last summer. Whenever I hear core players, I wonder who people are talking about. Maybe starting pitching, yes. Buxton is the only core position player on the Twins team. If we say other guys, we may as well say Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Jenkins, Cardenas, Tait, etc. as core players. Yes, we have hopes for a number of currently rostered players but they are nowhere near core players. Change or lose, it is that simple. Change absolutely does not need to include trading any of Ryan, Lopez, or Buxton.
  7. Falvey has made those same statements three times before today since the season ended.
  8. Odds change based on things that actually happen, so no. Add a good player, wins go up. Trade Buxton, wins go down.
  9. This is the same quote, verbatum, from each of the last two offseasons. Without change, which does not mean trading any of the three guys, the Twins are at maximum a 75 win team. Worse yet, their style of play might remain the same: poor defense, slow on the bases, and difficulty hitting with runners on base. Pray for change.
  10. This has already been stated on several previous occasions. The real problem remains .... the current roster, which played at a .333 clip after the All Star Game. There needs to be some changes and it does not need to involve any of Lopez, Buxton, or Ryan. The team that is currently rostered, from a post somewhere on TD, is at 71.5 wins in Las Vegas. I don't gamble so this is more or less meaningless to me. However, Vegas seldom loses money. What changes do people propose?
  11. Tre' Morgan from TBR should be available. Not a slugger but an automatic gold glove and he can hit and run a little bit. Rays have two young guys ahead of him.
  12. If the Twins could get Anduhar to be even average at first base, he would add value to the team. The guy has always hit. Injuries are always a problem though with him, which I don't believe should be a big reason to not talk but the glove worries me. The Twins are really poor defensively and that needs to be addressed. But yah, Anduhar in the outfield isn't pretty.
  13. All the discussion of trading our three best players is a downer, for sure. What needs to be remembered is that the team was abysmal from the All Star Break through the end of the year and the team had better than average luck in terms of injuries. Ironically, the team was more fun to watch from mid August through September than it was from April to the All Star break save for a two weeks. Thus, an evaluation needed to be made of the roster and not all hope can be dumped on fab campaigns from Jenkins, Rodriguez, Gonzalez, Culpepper, and a half dozen inexperienced pitchers. A roster that is slow and defensively challenged needs some adjustments. Just one example - if Wallner is an important bat put him at DH only and part with those guys who are also DH's, like Julien and Larnach. There are opportunities to trade. We have seen big trades (Rangers-Mets) and smaller trades (Red Sox-Pirates) already this offseason. Possibilities exist that do not include losing Buxton, Ryan, and Lopez.
  14. 3.75 million people isn't exactly small town, but Minnesotans like to think that they are underdogs. Underdog was a funny cartoon.
  15. Ok, I see now. I'm not a fan of BBTV really myself but I can see where people use it. It is something concocted to show relative value. As such it isn't any different than numbers used for prospects, such as a 55 value guy or for that matter the other analytic numbers that are now common in either fielding (outs above average) or batting (WAR). One can glide over these numbers pretty easily taking each with a grain of salt. Then again, too much salt isn't good for a person.
  16. Yes, I know this but Anduhar is not really a player to platoon. That still means a number of guys need to be moved unless MLB decides to allow more than one DH. The counter argument is that some of the DH's can play in the field. Well, technically they can and the Twins have use numerous DH types in the field with the predictable results. I guess this practice can continue. No rules against it. I understand that there more than a few people who are ok with the DH folks playing in the field. I don't think any pitchers are for that idea.
  17. What does this request have to do with Buxton waiving his NTC?
  18. Anduhar is a good bat. He is also a DH. The Twins already employ Wallner, Larnach, Julien, and others who should never touch a glove. But sure, I would be fine with him as the DH. What are you doing with the other DH's?
  19. Worth remembering for one thing that Jhoan Duran is a relief pitcher. Secondly, the Twins (or so we were told via numerous articles) targeted Eduardo Tait and settled on Mick Abel. The Twins were specifically not in on either Crawford or Miller. Thus, the return of the 2nd and 3rd best prospect for a closer seems reasonable. Personally I was hoping the Twins had worked with a few other teams but they received the guy they targeted. If a team won't pay the high price for Ryan, he stays, same with Buxton. Pablo Lopez may be a different matter due to his higher salary. The Twins are currently below $100M for roster payroll, so if they are thinking that Lopez must to be traded there may be some very significant problems within the Twins books. I would suggest that the owners need to pass various rules for their little club of owners that restrict financial shenanigans to avoid future problems with individual clubs going bankrupt. This should have been done a dozen years ago when the Dodgers went belly up. The Dodgers bankruptcy situation is directly related to the poor manner in which revenue is shared today. MLB thought they needed to give LAD special privileges to stay solvent.
  20. I totally agree and believe the A's would be smart to consider trading for Ryan. There are a couple of ways the Twins and A's match up.
  21. No deal then, which is fine with me. QO is a decent draft pick.
