  1. I really want to agree with your statement but when we watch the Twins first basemen it might be that is difficult for some players.
  2. One has to watch these "prospect" games with quite a bit of lattitude. The Blue Jays were at their home park in Dunedin showing fans the top pitching prospects and all of their top position players. Maybe things are different if Matthews, Morris, Soto, Prielipp, Raya, or even one of the top 30 Twins pitching prospects are in the game along with all of their top position players. The game was typical minor league style, some good and some "oh no". The idea is good.
  3. Remember that Gonzalez was the key to the Polanco trade. Someone put him in a top 100 list too. So I wondered quite a bit about him. It didn't take me one game watching to question the decision, but I did decide to watch him a dozen times. Who knows how Gonzalez was targeted? Maybe he becomes a Nelson Cruz DH. I can't see it.
  4. If you watch enough minor league or amateur baseball, it isn't unusual to see a pile of missed plays from time to time. I'm pretty slow to condemn the efforts and skills of younger and inexperienced players. One has to look at the potential much more. Whether the Twins care about defense is something well beyond my knowledge.
  5. Yes, of course. I was laughing thinking about Delmon in left field in a game in Milwaukee.
  6. Winokur shows his glove and arm on a ball deep in the hole. The tools are there. He has plenty to learn, but the athleticism is really exciting.
  7. Gabriel Gonzalez has a big arm and the Twins hope he hits, but he might be the worst outfielder in pro ball. He makes Delmon Young look like Andruw Young. I was shocked watching him last year.
  8. While it would be best if all of Correa, Buxton, and Lewis get off to a great start in March/April, there isn't any history to suggest their playing time or where they bat in the order changes. Wallner was sent back to AAA last year. Hopefully the Twins put some trust in him this year.
  9. I'm watching the game. Interesting mix of totally inexperienced and guys like Bloss (similar to Matthews, Festa).
  10. Yes, this is possible, but thus far Correa is the only guy on the roster capable of making that play. The Twins will need to play the guys they have but a few extra inches of stretch at first base would be huge for all Twins infielders except for Correa.
  11. Prielipp was incredibly dominant in some of his games last year as I watched via milb.com. Due to his history of arm injuries the Twins will almost certainly proceed slowly with him, which means strict limitations on pitch counts in the 40-70 range depending on if those pitches/innings are easy or more stressful. My guess is that the Twins will want to see Prielipp get through a half season without any issues before he is pushed above AA.
  12. All things considered, height at first base most definitely makes a difference. Naturally, those taller players do need to be proficient at the foot work, reading throws, scooping balls, and knowing where to go on every play. The Twins have struggled to find their full time guy who plugs into the lineup on an every day basis. I have wondered whether Carson McCusker has ever taken ground balls or throws at the bag. Clearly the Twins do not believe either of Trevor Larnach or Matt Wallner would work successfully at that corner. So the team has to continue with their experimentations. France is about as rough as it gets with a glove at first base and one wonders what the Twins think about Miranda's work there. Maybe later this year Baldelli will call on Payton Eeles to hold down first base. At least we know that Carlos Correa will continue to put his throws right to the fielder's chest, whether on a line or on one easy hop.
  13. Looking through all of the listed teams and their named starters and relievers, I'm reminded that health shuffles the order pretty quickly. A number of arms are down just since this list was published. There is some uncertainty with the Twins back rotation and reliever arms. Will the front office ride their guys too long at the expense of winning games? This is a concern and has been a habit of past Twins teams. The long view for me has the Twins among the top six pitching staffs in MLB. Hopefully everyone can remain healthy and be their best
  14. The money has been given ..... Gallo, Bundy, Bader, Vazquez, and a pile of others. I said it in October of 2023 and I will say it again ...... Jordan Montgomery and Rhys Hoskens are fine athletes and they may have been the near consensus guys we needed but my money is better spent watching Woods Richardson, Festa, Matthews, Morris, Miranda, Keaschall, and Rodriguez. The Twins signed Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa to big deals and it is the job of the front office to surround those guys with talent.
  15. FWIW, I always loved facing an all RH hitting team. It was far easier to get in a groove than facing alternating RH - LH - RH .... Naturally not every pitcher will care one way or another. In a different vein, as a long time Twins fan, it is a blessing that the current brains weren't around to platoon Oliva, Carew, Mauer, Morneau, and others.
  16. It's the Twins. Bader will get plenty of playing time at all three outfield positions. After all, the veteran outfielder is the jewel at the center of all their offseason dreams. We have seen this before already. Hopefully, Bader has a fun time and manages to produce at an acceptable level.
  17. The Pohlads surely want to clear their books asap. I wish them luck in completing the process. The payroll has remained in the #16-18 range among MLB teams. The yo-yo in payroll from 2022 to 2024 that brought historic venom towards ownership now sits just under $150 million. The Twins have been the rich team in the AL Central during the Falvey era with mixed results. One wonders when the focus on results will shift towards the folks who actually are responsible for the product and players on the field. In the meantime we can hope we don't read any more articles on owners, but are focused on our wishes for good baseball.
  18. Loved Harmon. The consummate gentleman and power hitter. Harmon retired as the #1 right handed home run hitter in American League history. He was simply a remarkable human.
  19. The Twins kept both Jeffers and Vazquez because they believe they are the best options. The salary of Vazquez was meaningless to any offseason strategies. There were other options to save if that was the plan. It never was and the payroll issue was never a thing for the front office. It existed only in the heads of some fans and writers. The Twins have the team they want. There were likely a pile of opportunities for change if that was a desire. I'm not sweating either Camargo or Cartaya, but guessing the decision to keep the current combo is based on who can best catch/block the ball for the pitchers. The Twins catchers are the least of their position player concerns. As far as the Mets needing a catcher? I'm sorry if I don't care about the Mets.
  20. You do remember that every year the Twins bring in players who are highly touted and comments trash the work of the players from the previous year.
  21. Great question and I do not have an answer. Last season I was at a game when 3 balls fell that should have been caught and 2 hits went for extra bases that should have been routine singles. In the same game 3 routine ground balls slipped by a Twins infielder. I'm going to say that was really extreme. This might be something to check this year. Agree totally that offense is needed and the history of baseball usually allows a strong offensive player with a weak glove.
  22. This post is really good and correctly identifies items noteworthy for the players involved. Sadly, I'm depressed about how the Twins operate and the inclusion of Jose Miranda as a guy fighting for his job is just one part. So it goes.
  23. Julien and Miranda are making a case today against some good Pittsburgh pitchers.
  24. Everyone knows that. The post was likely humor/trolling. No worries.
