    You don't like Christian Vazquez and make good points to support your claims. However, much like Brock and his rants on Kepler, a host of people calling for Julien to quit baseball or get cut, or the opposite approach where people believe Lewis is MVP material, it seems almost personal. I guess I can't think of getting so up or down on any MLB player that is largely just holding their job. I must confess that the use of Martin Maldonado seemed bewildering to me, but then I recalled how much I preferred an actual catcher behind the plate when I pitched as opposed to a hitter who dropped everything and blocked nothing.

    Curious. Do you really think that $10M is a problem the Twins must fix this year, possibly before ST? I can't see that, but am wondering if others do.

    Suggested SP Lopez + C Vazquez for 3 top prospects from Atlanta. Whitey was proposing trading Vazquez not Jeffers. I've been reading articles for months on trading Vazquez and NOT for a catcher. I don't understand this comment. I like the idea of trading Vazquez and giving Jeffers 135 games. No mention of Jeffers in my reply. Nothing changes because the Twins cannot trade either catcher if there is not an MLB ready replacement already in place via done deal or in fact agreement. Jeffers cannot catch 135 games any more than a starting pitcher goes 250-300 innings. Catching is brutal.

    None of Gasper, Camargo, Cartaya, or any other catcher currently in the Twins organization are capable of replacing either of Vazquez or Jeffers at this time. The Twins need to acquire a catcher who can before any consideration of moving the current catchers. Cartaya is a solid gain for AA or AAA, wherever he is placed, and the hope is that in a year there is enough improvement to give Cartaya a shot next year (2026). He will be out of options after 2025.

    Funny you should ask. One of the reason that Philadelphia signed Max Kepler was because of their special assignment scout, Terry Ryan. Among executives and people in the baseball world, few are respected for their knowledge as Terry Ryan. Dave Dombrowski (Philly POBO) had a nice little side set of comments in a recent interview about signing Kepler and Ryan's expertise. Ryan's ordeal running the Twins under Carl Pohlad makes the last few years "troubles" laughable by comparison.

    The top three prospects, on MLB.com, are pitchers and their fourth highest guy is a shortstop. Every team needs two catchers. Think of actions to bring in a catcher before thinking of any ideas to deal a catcher.

    Sir, the reason Correa cannot be moved is because he is currently the only player capable of playing shortstop in the major leagues. Shortstop is far less important than catcher but it is still the next most important defensive position in baseball, pitching being a category in itself.

    All of us seeking to improve the current roster need to be cognizant of positional needs. We can suggest a trade of any pitcher or position player who stands in fair territory and know there is someone else to slide into the moved guy's spot even if at a reduced performance. We cannot suggest a trade of a catcher that leaves the team with only one catcher. The game of baseball requires a catcher and it might not be reasonable to expect Vazquez or anyone to catch all 162 games. The Twins do not have anyone right now in their minor league system who can fill in. No, Gasper and Camargo do not qualify. So this article is flawed on the front end. Make a suggestion for how the Twins can acquire a catcher before any consideration of removing one currently in place.

    These list are popular and interesting. One can construct such a list on a variety of criteria and there will always be some differences of thought and opinion. Thank you Nick for putting these together and for your synopsis of each player. There is bias in every judgment. Two players, separated by quite some distance on this list, are emblematic of this. Royce Lewis and Edouard Julien are different people and players with different styles and backgrounds. People react to these two quite differently as well. The struggles of one result in a call for removal, the struggles of the other demand a call for patience and hope. Each has roughly the same number of plate appearances and somewhat similar counting stats with an identical oWar ranking thus far. I'm always interested in reading these lists and the responses and the sentences above are not a defense or attack on either Julien or Lewis or much of a comparison, but merely a note to remind myself that everyone finds value where they choose to see it with each player based on mostly real reason but also personal beliefs.

    Brenton Doyle is the best defensive centerfielder in baseball. His bat drooped a bit last year but he is easily still a top ten CF in MLB.

    Relax folks. We can have the Ryan-Falvey debate in 15 years. The news/article from Dan Hayes on The Athletic was somewhat of a surprise. Was it leaked to garner some interest for the Twins as January tips in February and players reporting? Just about any types of discussions could be going on regarding the sale of the team, including whether the team roster should receive a few boosts or changes. Until some word comes down, which we won't hear until something is finalized, Falvey is unlikely to make any changes. He is waiting for direction. We are waiting for the final handshake and signatures.

    Royce Lewis is going to play the bulk of this year as a 25 year old. Royce has 605 plate appearances, one year really. I am not comparing them, but I'm not as fixated on age for every roster spot as some. We don't know how these indy ball guys will turn out. Sometimes guys are overlooked. In the case of McCusker he is a big dude and has taken time to get his swing together. All I'm hoping for is that these guys get a fair look. When a player has shown worth in AAA, we can forget draft status and bonus money bias. No scholarships. Eeles and McCusker need to earn their way, so should others. The solution is to play those who perform.

    Thing is that he outplayed our top 6 guy, Brooks Lee, in a similar look at AAA. Again, he clearly needs to bust down the wall of getting a bus ticket versus actually being drafted and getting a big check. I just wanted to know or hear from someone who has seen him play in person at least 12-24 times for the Saints. On a different player but in a somewhat similar vein, I managed to watch about 50 plate appearances of Carson McCusker in the past year plus almost all of them with Wichita. I cannot recall a player making better adjustments in their approach and swing over a year. It sure seemed like McCusker was a better hitter every month than the previous month. I actually hope he gets a fair look as well, although his defensive skills are behind what one would wish.

    The MLB prospect list was from mid summer so not up to date. I was more asking if anyone had seen him play a few dozen times. I have only seen Eeles about half a dozen times and only via milb.com, thus my knowledge of him is extremely limited. It sure feels like most evaluators have not seen him either based on the nebulous or mere references to simply stats. Gleeman also referred to stats re: Eeles on his top 40 column today. It is totally understandable that few know anything about Eeles because he is out of indy ball, but I was curious whether there was someone who had gone to a dozen Saints games and watched Eeles play last summer.

    Varland has great stuff but he misses center-center way too much. If, hopefully when, Louie stays out of the meat zone on a consistent basis his career will swing up. Another starter who transitioned nicely was Cole Sands. Sure hope Varland is a year long positive contributor this season.

    Payton Eeles is 15 months older than Brooks Lee. Lee will play this year as a 24 year old and Eeles at 25. Eeles has similar numbers at AAA to Lee but Payton has more speed. An argument could be made that Eeles was much better in his first go at AAA than Lee. I wonder whether Eeles will get a shot in the Twins organization. He only received a bus ticket (Lee was #1 draft choice, #8 overall for $5.675M) for a bonus so the team has nothing financial tied to him. I feel Lee is a really good prospect still and I do not question his potential, but somehow what Eeles did last year has been overlooked. Is a .419 OBP and a .919 OPS from a guy who doesn't strike out much, runs well, and seems to have a decent glove noteworthy? What is wrong with Eeles?

    Carlos Correa wants to play another year in Minnesota. So back to Pablo Lopez ..... The Twins are almost certainly not trading Lopez unless they receive a haul in return. If it is Baltimore, the Twins demand either one of Basallo or Mayo plus Mountcastle. The Orioles then say no. No worries. There are still opportunities if Falvey wants some change.

    The Twins’ investment in player salaries for 2025 “will not be further reduced this winter, no matter what their new television partner pays them,” according to a source cited by Phil Miller of the MINNESOTA STAR TRIBUNE. Look, I'm not at all a fan of oligarchs, but the inaccurate bandwagon hate is not healthy nor does it help. It is also not realistic. My comment about wishing the Twins spent more (top 10 or whatever) is merely that - a wish. You are free to think it was whatever. I would like the articles and comments to avoid all mention of the Pohlads, but I guess I probably need to just back away from TD. I don't think this is similar to Oakland (Fisher) or Pittsbugh. I opposed Carl buying the team in 1984, but I'm not still carrying a grudge there. Prefer the discussions on usage, etc.

    I did not find any statements or quotes by any Twins officials that used the number $130M. Cots currently has the 2025 40 person year end projected at $141.6M. Fangraphs has the 2025 payroll at $142M. Other sites are around $138M. The Twins have stated that cuts are not being made. Thus, fans have speculated that in order to add payroll, subtractions must meet the additions. Twins Daily used $130M for their roster construction. I will remind you that they actually used $170M for a week last year. We just play around with this stuff and it is entertainment. i don't believe it is fair or decent to continually publish false information about what the Twins have said. I do think it was fair to rant fourteen months ago when the public relations debacle type statements were made. But that was over a year ago. I do think people might consider that falling attendance and the failure of the team's media contract looked like a reason to expect a new payroll of around $110-120M. I prefer $170M, but I'm just a fan.

    The Twins do not need to clear his salary. There has never been any statement to that point. Twins Daily and people who comment here have pushed that narrative, partially in order to find a pile of cash to sign a free agent. What free agent do we want? We all want the Twins to have a top twelve payroll. Is that actually a reasonable demand? It is a great wish.
