  1. I am not defending Correa per se, just simple capitalism. Correa for 2/70 is not fair market value for his services. Why should a player take less money when he deserves much more? Would any rational person do that? Adam Smith says no. Correa did too.
  2. Personally, I would rather the Twins offered 5/$200M and not commit to the very long-term deal. Now whether he would take it is another question....probably not.
  3. I would not do 4/$75M for Gray, and I like him. Just over $21M per year for his age 34-36 seasons seems like a massive overpay, especially given his injury history. Backs are tricky things, and never seem to get better with age.
  4. This is simply the wildest of wishful thinking and speculation. The Twins should get Ohtani, Judge, Rondon, Verlander, Contreras and Correa all lined up for next year. ....and then I woke up.
  5. We would have to empty the cupboard to get him from the A's, who notoriously drive a very hard bargain. I love him, but am afraid we would have to give up a ton to get him.
  6. I would try something like 4 years, $150M for Correa. I am leery of long-term deal, so willing to boost AAV to make up for that. I would offer Rondon something along the lines of 3/$75M for the same reasons. We need a good catcher, too. No idea where that will come from as I expect Contreras will have multiple suitors.....
  7. 16. None of the Above. I would rather watch our young pitchers sink or swim than this collection of pitchers. None of them make us a playoff team. Rondon or something of that caliber. Otherwise, save your powder for other position players or relievers.
  8. I would let Urshela play SS and see what happens with Lewis' recovery, and Lee's development. I want money put into pitching and a catcher. I like Martin in LF, and hope his AFL performance is an indicator he is ready to go. They should have $50-60M in payroll to go after pitching and a catcher, or at least trade for a catcher. Skeptical on Jeffers, and he certainly needs help. Isola is a question mark.
  9. Did Martin get hurt a couple games ago? Was PH for after 1 AB and not in lineup ever since. Cannot find anything on it....
  10. This dovetails with the Buxton thread, but I would plan to start Kepler in CF against righties, and sit him vs. lefties. DH Buxton against righties, and start Buxton in CF vs. lefties (when he is healthy.) If the Marlins want Kepler, I would listen.
  11. I want the Twins to play Kepler in CF next year and have Buxton DH. Buxton is too darn fragile. If you want to spot start him against lefties, fine, but Kepler should play CF. Gordon has earned a roster spot by playing handsomely and can cover multiple positions. Kiriloff is a complete unknown, can't realistically count on him for anything in planning for 2023. Larnach, to me, is now in prove it mode. I would start him in AAA unless he tears it up in spring training. Celestino seems limited to a defensive replacement, as he is just not hitting. As an aside, the Twins need catching help in the worst way. Is there any hope that someone like Camargo can play at the MLB level?
  12. He is a terrific player in his prime. Of course he wants a long-term contract---who wouldn't? The Twins have every opportunity to sign him if they want to. The question is whether they will, and it is their choice to make. I, too, fully expected him to opt out, barring a major injury. He earned his money, but the rest of the team fell apart around him after June 1. He did his job, so there should not be any hard feelings, even if the average fan does not shop at Dior.
  13. MIranda plays virtually every day and is now batting cleanup. "Nuff said.
  14. I really like what the Braves have been doing with their young players. Should/would the Twins offer a similar deal to Miranda at this point, or too early? Mixed results with Kepler, good results with Polanco. Should also consider a deal for Arraez. Take care of your own players first. Twins wont dip their toes into the FA market until Correa makes his decision, as he is 25% of their payroll.
  15. Decent move. Don't like throwing in the two DSL prospects, would have preferred to add a bat instead, but the O's probably did not want that for Lopez. Would like them to add Robertson from the Cubs, and the bullpen would become a position of strength. Not sure what that would cost, should be much lower than Lopez's price.
  16. Absolutely would not include Encarnancion-Strand for 2 months, 9-10 starts, of Rondon (plus possible playoffs). I would only be interested in Rondon if we had permission to try and negotiate an extension in advance of trade.
  17. What about Kiriloff for Lopez straight up? That would be a tough decision for the Twins.....
  18. I am not even sure I would trade Smeltzer for 2 months of Syndergaard straight up.
  19. I want the Twins to convert bat depth for controllable pitching. No rentals, please. And if someone wants ANY of our short-term players, even Correa, I am listening. Not shopping, but listening to offers that help cement our team's future.
  20. I want to Twins to add relief help, and, being greedy, I want Bednar from the Pirates. The guys is a stud, controlled though 2027, and, best of all, can get the Yankees out at the end of the game. His stuff is electric. Will be costly, but he could pitch for the Twins for the next 6-8 years. Git'r Done Boys.
  21. My read on this is that they needed an infielder with Polanco and Gordon both dinged up. They want to temporarily promote a player they are not worried about losing when they move him back down, hence Soto. Hopefully Kiriloff is up in the Majors to stay once they bring him up, but they do have a roster crunch right now. Trading some hitting for pitching makes sense, and I mentioned on another thread that the Marlins would be a logical trade partner as they have lots of pitching and need hitting.
  22. DJL44, it was a check swing on a pitch called a ball. But the batter's check swing did slightly contact Sanchez's glove, so they awarded him 1st base after a Seattle challenge. Never seen that before.....
  23. I think they need to be on the phone with the Marlins to try and trade hitting for pitching. We have lots of the former, and they have lots of the latter.....
