  1. I'm a little bummed. I think Torii had a legitimate hall of fame shot with 1500 RBI. He's 110 or so away. And yes that's along way off but I think he had a chance with 2 more seasons with 800 or so at bats.
  2. I don't look at the pay as much as the results. If he can hit .290 with .350 obp then he should hit 2nd am he can be maximized. There will be better players but we can live with that especially since we have a shortage of on base guys. Problem is he didn't hit with bases empty...will that normalize going forward....I don't expect Mauer to be a superstar. But we need better than .260 with 10 hr moving forward.
  3. I agree we should have signed him. I disagree with playing him over better players. Our window of contention is now open. ..we need to take advantage of all opportunities to put the best player on the field. Although he was on of a few with a decent obp. I am willing to go 1 more season to see if he can approach. 300 again.

  6. My concern is their going to trade Plouffe When they could put Sano at 1B and have Mauer backup 1B and DH. But if Mauer can hit .300 fine. Trading Plouffe won't sting as much but I doubt it at this point.
  7. I don't like the idea of trading Plouffe at this point but the Angels could use a 3B. If they can put together a good enough package to aquire him.
  8. If Sano is in the field then DH is open for Hunter to get the lion's share whill getting some time in RF.
  9. I don't see how May is not first or second. He was their best starter by statistical measures the first half then shut down reliever the second half. And he was up the whole season.
  10. Also I like that there are several deserving.candidates for.twins rookie of the year.
  11. Doesn't May still qualify as a rookie this year? He has to be at top of atlas the pitchers. Wasn't he statistically speaking our best starter when he was moved to the pen?
  12. This team has used 8 or 9 starting pitchers this year and none of them were bad. We're in it because of that depth. It'll be fun to watch and see who the heroes will be this year.
  13. Similar to the Anderson kick of 98. All season all field goals in playoffs missed chip shot to loose game
  14. Kansas City designated Frasor for assignment and could be an option
  15. I think most of the improvements for this year will come from the farm. I don't think the Twins should trade a lot of prospects for a run this year though a few couldn't hurt depending on which prospects and who they get. Suppose they trade for a SS or dominant set up guy using Duffey, Eades, or one of our reliever prospects? we have lots of pitching and I don't advocate giving up prospects giving up one or two in an area where we have an embarrassment of a surplus is alright with me.
  16. I think Varitek was drafted by Seattle and traded for Heathcliff Slocumb wasn't he?
  17. This is the type of rotation the Twins strive to build for competing. 5 starters who are league average where 1 or 2 can step up with margin of error or injury. also through 180 to 200 innings. The bullpen is where they usually strive for the lower cost better than average production to bring the team era down from average to better than average. but now they are getting better than league average pitching from their rotation hence the winning record.
  18. If you bring up Buxton, Hunter will not loose playing time. He may DH a little more often but Hicks would become the 4th OF with an extra start or so in RF or go back to AAA to play everyday while Buxton is getting the starts in CF.
  19. If Mauer's OBP is .330 or better there is your number 2 hitter he can handle that spot in the lineup. I do think Vargas deserves another chance and the club should have kept him up in Minnesota. They did get the OF situated properly for now so I am not going to quibble out there. They do need to do something with Stauffer though. I can see a trip to AAA for him if not released. Deunsing I can see getting a longer leash through June into July cause he has been here 6 seasons now. I do think Santana should have been moved to the OF. with the way he is going at SS that might be where he needs to be. At the end of the day these are not big issues leaving a declining hitter in a run producers spot, leaving your number 5 hitter n AAA for a month, and keeping a guy as the 8th man in the pen an extra week or 2 for an extra appearance or 2 to show anything will not hurt the team too much provided the extra loss or two these cause the momentum to change to a loosing streak. Right now the offense needs a jolt so something should be done on that front.
  20. He had a glitch and as soon as he said they think they figured it out and corrected it the streak began. I don't think he will have a 2. era at the end of the season but I do think he will continue to be a valuable member. you have to like it when we discover a gold nugget like this.
  21. I agree. If Mauer isn't going to hit over .300 with lots of 2Bs since he wont hit many HRs he may be the odd man out and moved to bench, DH, PH role.
  22. Could the Twins resign Pelfy this offseason if he keeps this up? Interesting debate. If they do Nolasco is gone for sure. Though Nolasco needs to show something soon.
  23. Plus their rotation is a solid 6 deep. While Millone isn't a great starter by any means he is definitely a capable starter and the odd man out. So while we don't have top end of the rotation we do have a deep one. that counts for something over 162 games. And that's not even counting Santana at this point making us 7 deep before you go to the minors at pull up top prospects....
  24. I can also see him being a coach on the Cubs. Theo did like dealing with the Twins and he did respect them so I can see where he could be a coach on the Cubs.
  25. I think the Rangers are a good fit as well as Milwaukee. what about the Reds? that seems like a good spot with a few more blow ups from price...
