  1. “On the other hand, @John Bonnes speculates at a more simple explanation, asking "rather than come up 1.5B cash, [maybe prospective owners] can come up with 1.1B cash and take on the $400M loan gradually?" For the love of God, why can no one get this right. The Pohlads want the buyer to cover the value of the team PLUS the buyer covering the debt. So it would be at least 1.5 billion to the Pohlads, not 1.1. The only change now so that MLB would be handling the 400 million in debt some how.
  2. Thanks to MLBTR for figuring it all out. The last two losses might be a blessing in disguise. The Twins are now 16th, with a tie breaker over Boston and Arizona, and juuust ahead of San Fran. The only realistically competitive teams ahead of them are Cinci, Miami, and Cleveland. It’s possible Cinci and Cleveland don’t claim anyone because they’re both cheap. I suspect Miami will make a claim or two. The only wildcard is the Padres…they don’t have much of a playoff shot but Preller is a wild man.
  3. Pagán has an xFIP of 4.48. He shouldn’t be trusted.
  4. Just FYI, every time y’all link to Austin Martin it’s the wrong one on Basevakl Reference.
  5. They fired him, man. Not exactly without cause but of course he’s not always going to be effusive towards them.
  6. He’s 18. It’s irrelevant what our current needs are.
  7. There are always going to be times when you have to use your low leverage guys in high leverage spots. He has shown time and time again he can't handle that. The Varland comparison is ridiculous. It's not a knee jerk reaction to say they should move on from a reliever that has been awful for four seasons straight.
  8. They have to DFA him at this point, right? Right??? The front office can't possibly be considering anything else if they are serious people.
  9. Seems like they think his defense is pretty solid there. "For one, when Rodriguez first began to get noticeably bigger and stronger throughout 2020 and 2021, it became less clear whether he’d be able to play center field, and the torn meniscus he suffered in 2022 clouded things further. He still looks really good out there. He’s not a burner, but his reads and routes are decisive and advanced, especially his comfort going back on balls over his head and into the gaps."
  10. Batting average isn't a great metric these days, at least not alone. Unfortunately, they are also 21st in wOBA and 18th in expected wOBA, lol. Edit: In good news, they are 2nd in wOBA allowed, and 1st in xWOBA allowed.
  11. The Carroll comment wasn't so much of criticism, just a sad statement. Obviously 14 other teams passed on him too. But I do think Cavaco was a huge mistake, and a lot of people thought so at the time.
  12. I just looked up his fielding stats and was pretty shocked to see he's a first baseman this year. Yikes. And the year before, he played exclusively 3B instead of SS, with a .892 fielding percentage and 21 errors. I know the MLB draft is a crapshoot but that pick is such a whiff at 13 overall. And Corbin Carroll taken 3 picks later. Damn.
  13. Kind of odd to say that Gallo should play CF and then make an argument for Kepler by saying he’s the superior RF. Yeah I know Kepler doesn’t like playing CF but I think they should stop caring about his opinion on that matter.
  14. Incredible deal. He’s going to be our ace for 4 more years.
  15. Counterpoint, someone made an edit of the Trout/Ohtani a-bat as if there was a pitch clock: Still feels intense. And watching the 91 World Series doesn't feel any less intense because of how quick the pace was back then.
  16. That was a lot more negative than I expected! But maybe my Spring optimism has gone too far. I hope they can stay healthier this year.
  17. You’re a rube if you believe this. Forbes is a joke of a publication.
  18. Something interesting I discovered on Fielding Bible and Statcast...despite playing 1B last year for the first time in his career, he was phenomenal at it. In only 215 innings, he had 5 runs saved according to DRS which ranked 5th among first basemen. Statcast had him at 4 Outs Above Average and 3 runs prevented. Both tied for 2nd among all first basemen. Analytical teams like the Astros have put a surprising emphasis on 1B defense in recent years. Looks like the Twins are taking it seriously, as well. EDIT: Oh and his UZR/150 was 13.9. Easily the highest at 1B. Another thought...with the shift limitations, a 1B that has more range might be a big bonus as well.
  19. Having a Jeopardy contestant on your trivia team is basically cheating, John. Btw, I think you should post these Tik Toks on Instagram too.
  20. I like the idea of starting him at CF and letting Buxton DH when facing LHP. Taylor isn’t great against lefties or anything but has a career .722 OPS against them. Not bad when considering his elite defense.
