  1. I was thinking Polanco to 3rd and Sano to 1st
  2. Taking this forward... it would certainly be the end of the Tyler Austin era, and I could see a scenario where the Twins cut bait with Cron. They could literally cut him and only owe him like $1.5M, right?
  3. Assuming for a second that there actually is a mystery team, the Twins would make some sense in a couple regards. 1) The Twins are about $30M below last year’s payroll, which is in the range Machado would be seeking 2) The Twins would fall under the category of “team you wouldn’t suspect”
  4. SKOR one for the Pohlads!
  5. I'm not sure I'd classify the Braves as mid-market Tampa never really went away, so there wasn't really a rebuild there. I'll give you the other 3, but the A's a just a bizarre organization.
  6. I'm pretty sure every team not named the Marlins would sign either of those deals in a heartbeat. I think the thought is, he's looking for 5/100M
  7. Two things... What’s up with the glow around Miguel’s head? Rocco is way taller than I thought. Miguel is 6’5” right?
  8. If he doesn't put it together there is another sweet-swinging lefty in the minors who might just push him out of a starting job.
  9. Polio and TB weeded out the over 30 crowd
  10. Also, look at the Cardinals as an example of a franchise that realized long ago that good teams make more revenue. Fans and TV audiences aren’t going to magically start showing up the exact moment the team is decent. There’s a lag. So, there might be a couple leaner years (in terms of profitability) before those fans start showing back up. But they aren’t going to show back up if you’re never very good. The Cardinals have done a wonderful job of maintaining a strong team and never experiencing a lag. If they see one potentially coming, they spend their way out of it. That’s why a team in a significantly smaller media market can continually outspend the Twins. If it’s accurate that the local TV contract is up in 2023, ownership should probably start thinking about that ramp up now if they want to maximize the value of that contract.
  11. If teams weren’t making significant profits, their franchise value wouldn’t increase by 6x over 15 years. My guess is that they could spend $175M on payroll and still turn a profit. That’s not me saying they SHOULD spend that much, just that the idea that they are capped out at $130M is a bit silly
  12. Order placed. Looking forward to getting my first version
  13. Quoting you, but not responding specifically to you.... Personally I think there has been way too much "the sky is falling" going on. I'm never surprised on Twitter because... well.... it's Twitter, but I have been surprised at the fans on here. I feel like it's been non-stop whining on here for 3 weeks. I generally believe the people on here be more logical and level headed, but I'm starting to lose faith in that. If we get to Feb 1 and we haven't improved much from where we are now and/or our payroll is still pathetically low, then I'll be ripping the Twins like so many on here are already doing. I will say my radar is up on this 100M threshold though. I would've given in a 1% chance at the beginning of the offseason that they didn't get there (I thought they'd get to $120M-ish), but I have to say, I feel like I need to raise that number to about 10%. There's absolutely no excuse not to get to $100M. None. And people should lose their S___ if payroll doesn't get there.
  14. What do we think those realistic trade targets are? Robbie Ray Zach Grienke Marcus Stroman (had a terrible 2018 so might come cheaply) Trevor Williams
  15. So, in the "Romero, Mejia, and Stewart to the pen" scenario, we have those 3 plus May, Hildy, Reed, Rogers. Leaves one spot open max. Probably filled by one of 5 or 6 internal options already on the 40man. So, we'd spend on one big bat and one high quality SP? I don't necessarily hate that plan.
  16. That wasn't really the question though.... Do you think Gibby would say yes to 4/50?
  17. Assuming the front office wants to sign Gibby to an extension and assuming Gibby is reluctant for the reasons stated above, at what point does the Gibson team say yes? 4/50 seems borderline to me. 4/60 seems like would for sure get the job done.
  18. ESPN Insider article: http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/25571957/brewers-rays-twins-know-how-play-winter-waiting-game Talks about how the Rays, Twins, and Brewers have been "playing the waiting game" on free agents to find good mid-tier deals.
  19. Going to need a bigger napkin
  20. This is the ultimate reason why it was a bad idea to keep him down. In a vacuum, keeping Buxton down wasn't very nice, but given his performance was justifiable. But this isn't a vacuum and the non-Buxton reasons far far outweigh the Buxton reasons. Players and their agents don't like to be reminded that this is a business and who has all the power. September's fiasco made it very clear who has the power and that they are very willing to wield it.
  21. Just looking at McGriff. Other than a couple of the counting stats (Hits, RBI) where Baines has the slight advantage because of 1000 more PA, Crime Dog has the advantage across the board. He also played almost exclusively in the field (not DH). Also interesting. There were 4 years that McGriff didn't make the All-Star team that he finished in the top 10 of MVP voting. How does that happen?
  22. I've seen almost nobody claim that.
