  1. There's the service time manipulation we are all used to and just kind of take for granted (April 15th, Mid-June, etc) but this was different. This was messing with someone you've made future plans with, designed marketing campaigns around, and asked to play hurt that season. It was so different, that it was nationally noteworthy. That's what I'm worried about. This might specifically work for Buxton, in that it might light a fire under him, or it might be that he was gone for sure 3 years from now, but now it's 4 years from now. It might work out and we will never be able to prove it one way or the other. It's other guys, with other agents who DEFINITELY know what happened here that worry me. What's the non-Buxton ripple effect? THAT is why it was a terrible idea to mess with his service time.
  2. If he’s so terrible then why bother messing with his service time.
  3. I’m sympathic to both sides of the argument, but I still think it was a really terrible idea from management to mess with his service time like that.
  4. Who are the teams actually bidding on Cruz? Obviously nobody in the NL Tigers and Royals seem like a No Cleveland is a no because of $$ and Encarnacion Blue Jays and Orioles seem like a No Angels don't work because of Pujols Seattle's a no since they are selling off That leaves: Houston Oakland - Khris Davis block? NY - Giancarlo did a lot of DHing last year Boston - Probably out because of JD Tampa Bay Minnesota Chicago I'd say let this one play out for a while.
  5. McCutchen is only 32? Man. In my head he was like 37.
  6. Cold Water + Hot Stove = STEAM!
  7. I feel like you guys were arguing two different things, but those two things are close enough to each other that you guys couldn't quite distinguish between them a) John was arguing that Ownership isn't putting it's best foot forward (Rays being the prime example). And that counts as "not trying" b.) Aaron was arguing that team management (GM, CBO, etc) was still actively trying to win as many games as possible given the restrictions from above. And that does count as trying. The Rays GM (or whatever his title is) clearly wants to win as many games as possible, but is forced to do some things that hinder that. Whereas the M's and Diamondbacks GMs are actively making their team worse (albeit for a long-term reason)
  8. Nobody is claiming Baines wasn't a very good offensive player, but clearly the "regular" voters consider Martinez to be borderline and I was just pointing out how much better this borderline player was, offensively, than Baines was. I think comparing the 2 makes a lot of sense since Baines was a primary DH from age 28 until he retired. Martinez didn't actually become a primary DH until he was 32. As a DH, I feel like he needs to do a lot better than 121 OPS+ and the voters agree since I believe the highest voter percentage Baines ever got was 6.5%
  9. Edgar Martinez's career OPS+ of 147 is higher than Baines ever had in any year.
  10. Projected $5.2M Salary
  11. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. The original poster said Donaldson, Murphy, Eovaldi WOULDN’T be a blockbuster offseason?
  12. Spotrac, below the salary table, said that 62.5 was deferred. With 105M total and 3 years left on the contract I backed into the 14.5m annual.
  13. My understanding of Greinke’s contact is that he’s only owed around 14.5m next year, which is the same as Goldschmidt. So technically, that would still leave quite a bit of room in the 2019 budget.
  14. Not that it REALLY matters but that’s not what I got from sporttrac. I read it as approximately 14.5M each of the next 3 years, followed by 5 years of deferred salaries at about 12.5M per year
  15. Goldschmidt & Grienke (with AZ paying 1/3 of the $62M deferred to ‘22-‘26) For Kepler Graterol & 2 guys in the 15-20 range
  16. I'd much rather use those resources (money) in other ways. I might be wrong, but the rotation is one area I would be fine with as is, going into next season.
  17. I don't see $50M as anywhere close to all in. $50 leaves us short of last years payroll. "All in" to me is like $10M higher than last year's opening day payroll, which would be like $65-$70M spent Though I do agree that $50M well spent could get us close to having a contender.
  18. Tyler Wells not being on the Prospects Live top 30 list was a miss. No matter what you think of him in terms of ceiling, once you get to AA and are putting up really good numbers it's pretty hard to justify not being in the top 30
  19. Just think how good they could be if there was aggressive support AND those two had good years. WHOA!
  20. Daniel Murphy is interesting-ish "32) Daniel Murphy, 2B-1B: The superb hitter may have to move to first base. Expert: 2 years, $9M per, $18M. Me: 2 years, $20M."
  21. For those who are bored tonight.... http://twinsdaily.com/topic/27239-go-get-verlander/
  22. Yes. That's my memory of the discussion.
  23. With the win, the Twins finished with the same home record as the Indians and have a better home record than Houston. 7th best home record in MLB
