  1. Organization In my opinion five 30 page threads is better than one 150 page thread. Maybe it’s just me. I will not start one. That seems like a mod decision. I was just offering the suggestion.
  2. Also... is there a reason we don't have Fangraphs 2016... 2017... 2018 separate threads? Seems logical. There's no good reason to have a 135 page thread that spans over three seasons. Heck even: Fangraphs 2016 Fangraphs 2016-17 Offseason Fangraphs 2017 Fangraphs 2017-18 Offseason Fangraphs 2018 etc
  3. Yeah.. we'd hate for a 135 page thread to get out of hand
  4. Do we think Bellinger is still available?
  5. And of course he gets an RBI single on the first major league pitch he sees
  6. Jay Bruce is another good contract comp (again he is a little older than Escobar though) What contract would you expect Escobar to get? or What contract extension would you max out at for him right now?
  7. Zach Cozart, who is actually a really good comp if you look at their careers, got 3/38 last offseason. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cozarza01.shtml However Cozart is 2.5 years older than Escobar. (Cozart didn't get a QO though)
  8. Sorry... I misunderstood "starter" Given our current payroll ($130M-ish) and the amount of money we have committed for next year, plus the guys we are likely to retain via options and arbitration, we'll likely have about $65M to spend to get back to the $130M number
  9. Half way to Machado for AAV but Esco will probably be looking for 3 years instead of 8. Two starters for $17M? Just what we need... a couple Mike Pelfreys
  10. Someone is giving him 3/45 this offseason.
  11. Unless he falls off the map I think it’s 99% that he gets a QO. More likely that Dozier (unless he does his usual 2nd half tear)
  12. So, a couple things got me re-thinking about this idea I've had for a while, but I don't have the info to make it happen. However, I know some people on here have access to it and the end result would be very informative. 1) I saw Seth on Twitter (I think it was him) talking about his upcoming midseason top 50 prospect list. 2) There has been some discussion on here about whether the Twins would be sellers this trade deadline and what types of prospects we might realistically be able to expect back My Thesis statement is "Even low level prospects have a lot of value." I'm not breaking new ground here obviously, but I've always been curious about the actual numbers behind this statement. So... what I think would be interesting is to track backwards the prospect rankings of everyone in our current top 50 as well as anyone that has been on the MLB team in the last few years. It would be most effective in an Excel spreadsheet form I'll use two examples... ----------------2018----2017----2016----2015----2014----2013----2012----2011 Max Kepler...MLB....MLB.....MLB.......#5.........#13......#15.......#22..... INTL ------------2018----2017----2016----2015----2014----2013----2012----2011 Graterol #6........#12......#20.......#42.......INTL The numbers are made up but I hope you understand the idea. This might only work best guys that came all the way through the Twins system, but the BA Prospect Handbook could be used for guys who came from elsewhere The idea here is to illustrate that all prospects have to start somewhere and just because a guy we pick up in a trade might fall into the 20s in terms of rankings, doesn't necessarily proclude them from eventually being a very valuable MLB player and/or prospect. ---- The odds of the formatting working out here are about 10%. Sorry ----
  13. Feels like 3/45 is the starting point now, which could change if he goes in the tank but probably goes up by a year or $2-3M AAV if he keeps up anything close to current production. Zobrist had more of a track record but seems like a decent comp. Only Zobrist’s first full year did he have a OPS in the range of Esco. And he signed 4/56 with the Cubs when he was 3 years older than Escobar is now.
  14. Santana - If he gets at all healthy might be an interesting piece to move. Teams might view him as a bit of a 4/5th starter lottery ticket Dozier - It comes down to whether the FO thinks they are going to make him a Qualifying offer. If they plan on it, then I can't imagine a team willing to give up enough for 2 months of Dozier, that would outweigh a potential 1st round comp pick. Escobar - Unless he falls off the map, he seems like a strong QO candidate. If he's still 300/360/550 as the deadline approaches, I could see a team willing to give up enough that it would make it worth losing out on the comp pick. Ultimately I'd love to have him back, but trading him doesn't necessarily close the door on that. Morrison - Some team might take a flyer.... why not move him if a team offers something Rodney - Cheap... 2019 Option... very effective over the last two months. Seems like a strong candidate Duke - Same as Rodney but without the 2019 option (I think) OdoLynnzzi - If we could combine Odorizzi's first 6 weeks and Lynn's last 6 weeks we'd have quite an asset. As it sits now, Lynn probably has a bit more value, but is slightly more expensive. No commitment for either after this year although Odorizzi has one more year of team control left. Mejia - Maybe. From the Twins perspective a better option would be to trade one of OdoLynnzzi and have Mejia fill in, but some teams might have some interest in him. Gibby - One year of team control left, but I he and Escobar are definitely some "sell high" candidates. I'd like to keep him around but teams might overpay for the combo of very strong current production and one more year of team control.
  15. Rosario is definitely getting buzzed or hit next time through the order
  16. 59% of homeruns are solo shots (this data is surprising difficult to find. That number is a couple seasons old and if anything I would expect it to be higher now) While 8 is slightly lucky, if that number was 7, that would be considered slightly unlucky.
  17. I thought we resolved this before.... team doesn’t pay the money to anyone. Their expenses just went down by $12M I think you are thinking of fines.
  18. Fun With Numbers - Schedule Edition The Twins do not have home games on.... Opening Day Mothers Day Memorial Day Weekend Memorial Day Fathers Day Independence Day Labor Day Weekend Labor Day Literally, that's every day that matters from a ticket sales perspective. What did the Twins do to piss off the schedule makers?
