  1. ... which is starting to sound like believing in the Easter bunny .... Everytime you think you see him, he hops into the hedge (shoulder first). Buxton isn't going to have the case that Bryant does. His injury history printout probably weighs as much as the title for Johnny Cash's Psychobilly Cadillac. It's way to much to point to as legitimate reason for not calling him up. Tony Clark just can't be reached, so you get what we've had here the last several years which is the way Tony wants it. Well, he gets it. And I don't like it any more than you (wo)men.
  2. I think I remember Levine specifically stating that they thought his bat was MLB ready, but his glove was where they wanted to see more improvement. This was after his AA breakout in 2018. The glove and conditioning/health seem to be what's actually holding him back. If defense is what you're looking for, Gordon appears to be a major downgrade from Adrianza. Have the Phillies called up Aaron Nola yet? ... oh wait. Is that Trea Turner hitting leadoff for the team that's up 2-0 in the WS? I need to go check my glasses to be sure. Speaking of infield defense .... Matt Chapman sure looks good at the hot corner!
  3. I just fear that Astudillo is way better on camera - you know, high-fiving kids and marshmallowing into walls or onto the dirt - than he is in the actual production department. He is versatile and beloved. Castro should definitely be an option, but I hope the Twins look at others (particularly left-handed hitting options). Astudillo seems the perfect 26th man, if the new 15 day rule on optional assignments allows the team to keep him there.
  4. Using 2019 playoff performance as a reason to move a player would work for every other hitter on the team not named Polanco, Cruz or Arraez. Arraez still had a negative WPA and made the WPA for some of his pitchers worse as well. If Eddie's 923 OPS is an "absolute abomination", then the Twins are pretty much screwed. It's funny, Ted, how you can point to the small sample sizes of the Twins playoff games to condescend Twins fans who are fed up with playoff futility, but then turn around and twist the timeliness of how a single player's small sample size is organized across that small sample size to deem his production abominable. ... and Souhan's a shmuck? There's this old story about removing the plank from your own eye, so you can see clearly to remove the grain from your peer's. Just sayin'.
  5. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions, but, apparently, that is pretty much status quo for the Wayne Williams case. Dark and creepy indeed. Not enough to convict, but enough to close? Makes one wonder.
  6. Except for thorough homework on Sam Dyson Based on articles written and personal information divulged by both of you via different sources of media, I'm pretty certain that mikelink has been a baseball fan at least twice as long as you, Ted. This smug, condescending castoff really says a lot about you. Now, go get busy with your next piece on how Trevor Hildenberger is going to be the centerpiece of a successful 2020 bullpen. I'm sure your rosy glasses will bend the light in a way that makes that look possible.
  7. So apparently, this Richard Justice writer for mlb.com is an idiot. He starts by stating that the Twins led the majors in most important stat categories and highlights Garver. Then he goes on to give the advantage to the Yankees. He never once mentions the defensive part of the game.
  8. Let's Measure: wRC+ - Sanchez = 116, Garver = 155 WAR - Sanchez = 2.3, Garver = 3.9 DRS - Sanchez = -2 , Garver = 0 FRM - Sanchez = -6.8, Garver = 0.8 FP - Sanchez = .982 , Garver = .992 Either Sanchez shouldn't be the measuring stick, or there is a new sheriff in town.

  10. Youtube TV looks like the way to go. Ultramobile. Seems like having your cake and eating it too. (Unless you require 70 inches to have a good time)
  11. Take your chances with Gardner, Wave four fingers for Didi Rogers is the only lefty that should see the mound in this series, unless one of the games becomes and stays a laugher our way.
  12. This is good take ... The Twins bullpen is now a strength, at least 5 or 6 deep anyway. But .... Lewis Thorpe - Top 30 since the deadline? That must have been a name slip.
  13. You forgot Audra Martin's double entendre tweet.
  14. Congrats, Twins! What a season! Keep it going!
  15. I hope we can see more Alcala this week starting with situations unlike his debut and then maybe ending with situations like his debut. They basically called the fire department, turned on the hydrant and said "DRINK". He could easily slide from 10 to 6 in a week, given the right circumstances. That still doesn't put him on the roster. Now, if that baptism by fire has fortified his psyche, he does have an outside chance of getting results from his obvious stuff. Maybe that would make the decision more difficult. It's a good problem to have. It wasn't even necessary to have Stewart and Hildenberger on this list. They should have zero chance, even if there are 8 injuries in front of them. I would bet on and select Jake Reed or Alex Schick before giving either of those two a playoff call.
  16. Right now Morris is #1. Cruz still has a a post-season in hand though. It's going to be a tall order to surpass Morris, but it would be amazing to see him do it.
  17. How about that Trevor Hildenberger? He's really bringing it and earning that 40-man spot.
  18. Too bad I recently adopted a dog. If I was still looking, I'd be looking for a bulldog mix and naming it Dobnak. I understand it was the Royals, but he just keeps coming out and performing. I'd say he's the current favorite for the 2020 5th spot. I also wouldn't be surprised if he earns the 4th spot. Hope he's a Twin for a long time.
  19. It would help if a playoff destined team could come closer to selling out a stadium this close to the end of the season. 14K empty seats doesn't help the energy. It was $1 dog night. Of course, $9-12 beers and $6 average tasting kiddie cones doesn't help. St. Peter has the wrong formula. Even he thinks his prices are ridiculous. Also, the S-show that is the LRT after a game is over doesn't help either. I use it regularly and know what to expect, but I also overheard a couple decent sized groups of people saying stuff like "this was a bad idea" or "we're never doing this again". I see lots of "Out of Service" trains running the tracks and jamming up the flow during this time. You would think the Twins and Metro Transit would be able to come up with a better plan on game days. The lines have been running for years. They should have the data to improve it.
