  1. There goes my ammo for getting the older kids off SnapChat so that they actually watch the game. It also means the younger ones who haven't been to a game yet don't have to go through my old first game hazing ritual. That old "Here's a ball to the face, so you know what it feels like and pay attention" is sooo 2009. Time to reallocate some of the ice and dentist bill money to another part of the family budget.
  2. That was fool money for Wheeler. Glad the Twins didn't go down that path. As Seth pointed out in his article, Berrios and Gausman have pretty similar career peripheral numbers and both are younger. I'd like to see an extension and a signing respectively.
  3. Well, my Hamels wish didn't age well. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/braves-to-sign-cole-hamels.html
  4. Of the rumors that were floated, Syndergaard was apparently going to require Buxton (not a prospect) and Stroman just wasn't the level of pitcher that would take you over the top. I can't really fault the team on not diving in head first on those deals. If there were other rumors, they escape me now. I understand your frustration, but I just don't think losing out on Wheeler is in line with the same old, same old. Not playing in the Cole and Strasburg market certainly is, but I'm already worn down to the stumps there and the lichen have already grown over.
  5. They can't pigeon hole themselves into a {insert pitcher name (currently Wheeler)} or bust MO. I don't think that's the smart way in the Twins market. I can listen to the frustrations of cheapness around Cole or Strasburg. They are definitely the high end pitching studs to be bought. Buying an inflated Wheeler as his price starts to approach those two wouldn't be good business, IMO. I'd rather get Hamels, Gausman and Bundy (I think they can produce at least what Gibson, Perez and Pineda produced). Then I'd give a two year, get healthy deal to Sanchez. If the Twins are where we hope they'll be in July, then make a blockbuster deal for a stud on a team that had a year that didn't go quite right. There will be less players to contend with and the the Twins should have the prospect depth to compete with those that do contend.
  6. Rangers appear to be out. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/rangers-out-on-zack-wheeler.html If the Twins are out, I hope he goes to Philly or Cincy. If he goes to the White Sox, then I'll end up rooting for a quick decline. I know I'm a horrible person. Edit: For me, 5/100 is the absolute ceiling for Wheeler. If it's more than that, then the Twins should just make a run for Cole or Strasburg.
  7. I haven't, but I've seen Total Recall: "Quaid, start the reactor!"
  8. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I can't look at it not that way.
  9. Can we create a package around Edwar Colina that nets us Juan Soto too? Oakland isn't going to trade Chapman. He's exactly the type of player that a team with their budget constraints is going to continue to build around. 2018 25 Oakland Athletics $547,500 0.109 2019 26 Oakland Athletics $580,000 1.109 contract 2020 Status Pre-Arb Eligible, Earliest Arb Eligible: 2021, Earliest Free Agent 2024
  10. A modest two year deal to any of the highlighted pitchers would be a good move, IMO. All three have high end talent, but the injury issues are concerning. The deal could be treated in a psuedo-Pineda way. Year one is all about health. IL until 100% or when it makes sense assuming a playoff push. I wouldn't sign more than one of those three though. Treinen and Buchter are both interesting. MiLB options abound in the pen, so more arms with talent are a good answer for the volatility. I'd kick the tires on Alex Claudio as well. Danny Hultzen on a minor league deal would be fine. It's a Rich Harden type of hail mary, but it's good to explore all options. No interest in Pillar here. It's just a name drop, although he has had some good games against the Twins. The Twins top four outfielders right now are all "capable" or much better than that. Give Jake Cave 628 PAs, and he'll match that homer total and do it with an OBP well above the .287 that Pillar put up. Hell, with all the articles suggesting a Rosario trade and using his .300 OBP as one of the main reasons to move him, I don't see what Pillar will bring that's any better. He might be cheaper, but why kill the clubhouse over 2-3 mill?
  11. What if? That pic looks like Buxton doing his best Russell Westbrook impression. Reporter: "Byron, what if you didn't get injured last season?" Buxton: "What!? Bro, what are you talkin' about, man?" .... and so on and so forth
  12. Good for Gibby, and he gets to go to the new Globe Life, instead of the old cracker box.
  13. I would be pleased if the Twins signed Avila. He'd be a solid option to team with Garver. Clippard would be a solid veteran add, if it was a one year deal. He might get two from someone else though. Rich Hill is interesting. His performance when available is still good, but you have to have a plan that assumes he won't be making 30 starts. The Twins just may have that with the lightly experienced group currently penciled into those last three rotation positions. I'd pass on the rest of the list. I don't understand all the replies mentioning players not listed in the article. The OP was clearly looking for opinions on the listed players.
  14. I have to agree with others on Littell. He's been eye-opening out of the bullpen. If the starter acquisitions take some form like you are suggesting, I think the Twins will have enough depth with Graterol, Thorpe, Dobnak and Smeltzer to cover those early season starts or provide depth beyond the fifth guy. The rest of the plan is great. Nice work.
  15. My reaction to this blueprint is to request that Jeremy Nygaard's blueprint be pinned.
  16. Awesome! ... and Wheeler rejected, so he's officially there for the picking. Go get it done Falvine!!
  17. This is probably the best blueprint I've seen that appears to be realistic. I like the Vogt idea, especially since he's more likely to go for a 1 year deal. Most of the catchers are on the wrong side of 30, so his age doesn't really bother me. Coming of 835 OPS against RHP is definitely attractive. I think it might take a little more AAV to keep Odorizzi, but even if that was 3/$48 mill with a possible club option attached, it wouldn't break the bank considering your conservative start. That's one of the better Rosario trade proposals that I've seen. Enlow has a huge amount of upside, so the Marlins might be inclined to invest. A change of scenery for Urena isn't a bad gamble, especially when Caleb Smith is the prize return. I'm curious on not protecting Celestino. He broke out in the second half, and I could see a team like Detroit being willing to throw him to the wolves. Do you think there will just be too many pitchers valued high enough in the rule 5 that he will slip through? Do teams get to pull back a player after the first round, or is that only in expansion drafts? I'd personally rather outright Hildenberger than Harper, but that's splitting hairs with the 40th guy.
  18. Sign Teheran to be the 4, and then delete Pineda's agent from the contacts list. Still need a 1 though.
  19. The hate runs deep .... Former Twins farmhand Nate Yeskie says no to Yankees. Love it.
  20. Looks at most of the available catchers, and they are all on the wrong side of 30. I would welcome a Grandal signing. You could probably just let Cron walk, if that happened. A Garver, Grandal, Sano, Gonzalez, Adrianza rotation at 1B would be completely sufficient. With that said, it needs to be an AND signing, not an OR signing. The pitching upgrades must be paramount. Sign Wheeler (let the pick go) Trade for J Gray, Archer or M Gonzalez (if available) Resign Odorizzi Sign Grandal The Twins would look well-stocked heading into 2020.
  21. I won't be happy to see Pineda in a Twins uniform. He can go screw over another team. Sorry to spoil the choice of adjective.
  22. Likely this Deadspin piece including the horrendous burrito-eating method witnessed in the comments.
  23. Twins will sign someone like Homer Bailey and trade for someone like Marco Gonzalez. That's about all we'll see added. I like buying low on Archer, but I don't think the Pirates will offer him up low enough. The other three will be too expensive in either prospects or actual money (Kershaw). I just won't believe in a splash until I see it. What's the most salary the Twins have taken on in a trade? I know they haven't ever spent more than $50 mill and change on an FA (Santana or Nolasco were the highest, IIRC).
