  1. Trading Castro right now shouldn't even be a topic. He's not a pricey player. 6mil. He's one of our most needed players at this point. I'm not sure how the narrative we were given by ownership went from we're not cutting payroll this season to on here that we need to cut payroll. Keep Castro, we need him. If we're 10 GB in late July and Castro is having a solid season that is the time to explore a deal. Not now.
  2. I see this as just moving known prices around. I don't see it hurting the team, but really don't see it as making much of any difference. I suspect the moves this winter will mirror this one. Internal promotions.
  3. You "consider" trading Correa if you deem it improving your team for 2025 and into the future. If it's to dump salary you have a huge problem. But no way if you trade him don't expect to sign better players with the savings. Not happening. I'm not a big Correa fan, but I do know reality.
  4. You generally don't get better and healthier after 30. He'll be 31 in a month or so. rv78 is right, missing as many games as Buxton does has to be taken into account in his value and worth. Buxton is more likely to play 80 than 100 or more.
  5. Don't trade Lopez,Ryan or Ober. They'll at least keep us I the wildcard mix. Poor time to trade Lewis. Not anywhere near peak value right now. I concur with a couple of others, slow off season coming for Twins. Maybe Paddock for salary cut.
  6. In the words of Oliver Hardy: "here's another fine mess you've gotten me into."
  7. This is a wow out of nowhere. No more debate on being in the 1B mix or if he is tendered. Wish Alex the best in his next leg of life.
  8. I concur. I kept looking for Scott in the article and never found him. He was as dominant in 1990 and 1991 as Liriano was in '06. And he stayed healthy. Edit: I'm not implying that Erickson's stats were as dominant as Liriano's. But that his impact on the 90 and 91 Twins was as dominant.
  9. For sure an F by acquiring Margot. Miller is going to reap rewards for someone. Edit: Margot made the 2024 team worse. Therefore the trade has to be an F. Doncon for Miller, it will be years before that grades out. I also don't know who is on the hook for buying out Margot's 2025 contract, 2 million. But if it is the Twins and their tight payroll it also hurts the 2025 roster. Never liked this trade from the get go.
  10. I'm not sure if the reference to Hrbek's glove being a bit of a liability was just for his rookie season or career. But I would love to have that "liability" back at 1B for 2025. He was like an octopus at first.
  11. Martin will by my guess get every opportunity in 2025 to contribute at the ML level. It appears that payroll is very tight so probably not another Margot acquisition happening. But with that said he will need to improve beyond below average player very quickly with Jenkins, Rodriguez, Keashell and even Gabriel Rodriguez all getting closer to MLB. If he doesn't he will be behind 8 or 9 guys in the OF pecking order. I hope he makes good.
  12. I really didn't want to put any thought about Falvey wiggling. Gee, thanks Tony.
  13. They have pretty much openly stated that they aren't slashing payroll this off season. I don't think Vazquez is on the block. I don't believe he will be traded just to dump his salary. I think if he were traded it would be a legitimate trade to try to improve the team. What I don't see is us trading for a large salary or any FA splash. I also don't see them having the $$$$ to bring even a Santana back. 1B will be an internal add. Paddock? Maybe. But that return would also be minimal. A low level milb or two. They have zero wriggle room.
  14. Yep, overlooked Helman. Good call. Edit: And we don't need the veteran presence in the clubhouse. Correa, Buxton, Vazquez and Castro are all veterans. We have plenty of vets now to carry the load. Need to give the guys in the system a chance, or move them to another org.
  15. Lets go in house to fill out the roster instead of spending whatever expendable $$$$ we might have on washed up veterans. If we have any payroll to play with sign a guy that has the potential to make a difference. I'm tired of signing declining players. DaShawn Kiersey comes first to my mind in giving one of our own a shot who has the potential to steal or run the bases. He's done everything asked of him in the minors. Payton Eeles should also get a long look from what others are saying.
  16. I remember these guys too. Can't miss. But they missed. Willie Banks was nary better. At least as a Twin. Pat Mahomes was another.
  17. If I was a billionare, which I'm not, and had the money and desire for an MLB team I'm buying the White Sox and it's not even close. White Sox are a disaster due to present owner. The only reason I buy the Twins is if I miss on CWS or I have close ties to MSP. If you have the money you don't pass on the 3rd biggest market in the US. Not for Minneapolis. You take it in the shorts on the field for 3-4 years and build the team up to your standards. The White Sox should be the dominate team in the division and have the longterm potential to be that. The Central division teams should actually be nervous about the Sox being run by a competent management/ownership. 2024 is over. But the Royals of all teams showed how fast you can turn it around in just one or two seasons. CWS all the way, even though I can't stand them.
  18. My issue isn't with the team having a budget and then exceeding it by 25-30 mil as some fans consistently ask them to do. My issue is the repeating time and time again of signing washed up veteran #1 for 7 million and washed up veteran #2 for 5 million instead of signing one guy for 15 million who would maybe make a huge difference on the field. Instead they waste budget. Sign one difference maker and fill the roster with minimum wage players from the system. You also find out who has a future this way. I'm not expecting things to change this off season either.
  19. I'm not certain that they ever intended to add any significant outside expensive talent to Correa. I do think that they had dreams of the minor league pipeline coming through in a big way. I think they were banking on the pipeline being great and the need to spend big again getting kicked down the road when those players needed big contracts. Just my opinion.
  20. Unfortunately chpetitt, this health problem makes every position a question mark right now. Correa, Buxton and Lewis are great talents. But we celebrate when we get a half of a season out of them combined it seems. Other positions guys don't perform with the bat or the glove. Other positions guys can't hit the opposite side pitcher for squat. I would like to say we have 2 or 3 positions without uncertainty, but I can't.
  21. Paddock, that is the only likely SP to get moved this season. Then one of the prospects mentioned could slide in at the 5th spot. Paddock won't bring much, if anything, but that will allow them to meet any budget restraints. Now isn't the time to trade cost controlled good quality young pitching.
  22. Castro is not going to be cut loose for nothing. If he is that should rankle the feathers of every fan on here. Could he be traded? He's probably our top trade chip. So yes. Duran shouldn't be traded. Not if we want any semblence of a pen, though he would bring back a good price. Jeffers who was mentioned here would bring a good price but wheres that leave the team? Paddock could be traded but the return will be next to nothing. Trading him only allows the team to come in at budget. Things are going to be tight but Castro doesn't leave for nothing imo.
  23. This isn't happening due to $$$$$. I'm not in favor of a Santana return either. He had a great June stretch and otherwise mediocre 2024. Plus he's probably not signing for a paycut. I would guess a role signing and some sort of platoon mix. I honestly don't see any big increase in payroll coming.
  24. I'd give the entire organization a D+ across the board except ownership, that gets an F. Or an I for Incomplete and incompetent. Edit: The organization does get an A for being "able" to beat the White Sox, easily one of the worst teams in baseball history. What a great accomplishment to hang your hats on.
  25. This entire regime gets to hang their collective hats on the one outlier season of 2019. SMH
