Greatest Twins Teams of All Time: 2019

MLB decided to go with regular balls for the postseason. Ed-DEE still came through in Game 3. Too little, too late. So it goes.- 8 replies

Very happy to see that the Festivus tradition is alive and well! Lopez, Ryan, Ober and Paddack deserve a proper addition in 2024. Trade the prospects that are desired by Seattle, Milwaukee or even the Pale Hose. Varland can be the swing man.- 19 replies

I’m surprised no one lifted up the national and provincial appeal of Edouard Julien for the Blue Jays. He’d make some good material for Canada’s Team - not sure how many Québécois have made it to “les Show”. Clearly a hero from the last World Baseball Cup. Good to bring back Erik Swanson. Straight outta Fargo - I know some of his hometown relatives. Sell some extra tickets just for that family! Not sure whom else to receive back from Toronto. Maybe some pieces to swap over to Seattle - real prize is Kirby or Gilbert!

Remembering Random Twins - Sam Fuld
Boswell commented on William Malone's blog entry in William Malone IV blogs about Twins
Thanks for the post. Well-written material that could be part of our Twins Wiki! 😉 I knew he had gone into front office work, but wasn’t clear on the details. An interesting thread to pull would be the “family trees” of different GM’s and how they mentored up-and-coming candidates. -
Following the stellar postseason performances, Correa deserves rightful praise from _all_ of us. I’m fine with snark and even booing if July comes, we’re 10 games back and our SS batting .190. As to Buxton, we continue to watch and wait. Yes, if only he could play 100 games in CF in 2024… we may be sunk if the Wunderkinder think “hope” is a plan. “All I want for Christmas is a championship.” (Santa could fill it in with the Timberwolves too)

Didn’t “some guy” write about an experience with Larry Hisle? He had been mailing cards and whatnot for a while, but then received a phone call from the ballplayer himself. Wrote up the whole interview. Yes, would need plenty of coordination and trust. But hey, anything worth doing (like playing first base) is indeed “incredibly hard”.

I agree that the project should be honed in on sickos like us. Precisely the sort of specialized niche. A place to say “yeah, I chatted with Disco Dan Ford at the 1992 Twins Fest.” We’re just the group of sickos to really make this work!

2023 Black Friday Deals in Twins Territory

Didn’t quite work to post from the Athletic. :) I’d agree that Twins were foolish to bench Vazquez for all 6 games of the postseason. Go with the guy who has the experience of calling the big-time game. Of course, who knows the whole business of “personal catcher” or “splits with Jeffers and Vazquez” at that time and place. I’d definitely be hurt if I was Vazquez… and want the exit from Baldelli station

The Athletic’s Houston Astros reporter Chandler Rome said players and coaches in his team’s clubhouse were shocked the Twins didn’t start Vázquez once in the playoff series and had major concerns about how it would impact that night’s game had he been behind the dish. His veteran knowledge shouldn’t be discarded because of a poor offensive season.

As Kim Ki-taek eloquently stated in the 2019 film Parasite, "You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan at all. You know why? If you make a plan, life never works out that way." Winston Churchill said that “Plans are useless. Planning is essential.” It does seem that the brilliant ones in the field are able to work with a number of different “plans” at the same time, but then actually implement the one (or maybe just simply _a_ one) that gets the job done. Miami also seemed to have their eyes on Arraez (nice rhyme) for some time. Who finds which of our players attractive? Forget about Snell, Montgomery, Yamamoto, Gray and so forth. “The plan” has always been to have a frugal payroll to match the frugal sensibilities of the market. Minnesota is also a smaller than expected market simply because our non-winters are too short and folks have so many other options and passions to pursue in that 3-5 month window.

My Favorite Immaculate Grid Twins, Ranked
Boswell replied to RandBalls Stu's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Update on TK and Immaculate Grid - worked today for Twins and only one Team… 0.02% rarity! Also, Encarnacion-Strand only one team for the Reds… Apparently can use whatever reliever you’d like for sub 3.00 ERA… but Luis Tiant didn’t do it _for_ the Twins… uff da- 23 replies

What if Rocco Baldelli is Actually a Good Manager?
Boswell replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, when your predecessors are Gardy and Molly… who began and carried forward the abominable postseason losing streak that may stand for decades across the professional sports leagues of all nations, all genders… then, yes, Rocco reigns supreme. Baldelli was “good enough” to successfully lead the 2023 Twins to not just one, but -three- postseason victories. As such, I’ve been converted to a “Baldelli believer” (a Belieber? 😂) Had the Twins pulled out another postseason donut and given us a solid 20 around our necks, you’re damn right I’d be getting out a pitchfork. So it goes. How did it all get so foolish?- 49 replies

TC Bear Named Twins Most Fearsome Man/Bear Hybrid

What if Rocco Baldelli is Actually a Good Manager?
Boswell replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The franchise went 3-3 in the postseason this year. As such, the Twins had the 5th best result out of the 12 teams in the playoffs (and the 30 teams overall). So, Baldelli is indeed a successful manager.. and deserves to be hailed as “good enough” to end the 18-game, 19-year long pandemic of losing and the 21-year long failure to advance in the playoffs. I do wonder about the nature of his Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde personality, as the guy becomes a lunatic when he’s angry. He usually has the Cool Dude exterior, but the guy with a filthy mouth and a raging vengeance breaks out on occasion. So, can’t say I like him as a person - but that’s hardly relevant to his job performance.- 49 replies

What if Rocco Baldelli is Actually a Good Manager?
Boswell replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was reading about the 20th Anniversary of the “Bartman game” (NLCS, Game 6 - Oct. 14, 2023) on the Athletic. Reprehensible that Baker, Alou, Prior et. al. threw a fan under the bus. Became the whole story rather than taking responsibility for the many mistakes and faults of the Cubs. Baker could have made a trip to the mound to calm down his pitcher and catcher, or he could have gone to the bullpen rather than ride Prior. He didn’t. He could have taken responsibility.. or at least been philosophical. Instead, shame, blame and destroy the guy with the turtleneck, sweatshirt, glasses and headphones. Yeah, maybe give me Rocco anyway. 6 hits and 28 strikeouts in 2 games at home is on the players.- 49 replies

Are the Twins Closer to a World Series?
Boswell replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
YES! Our -3- victories put the 0-18 losing streak in the distant past, akin to the Covid-19 pandemic. The franchise can move beyond that sad, miserable era and claim some normalcy. C4 has righted the ship and pointed it in a new direction. 2024 and beyond looks good!- 40 replies
