  1. The only mascot I like less than TC is Bernie the Brewer in MKE. They could both go missing after sliding into Bernie's mug, going on a bender, and I wouldn't be disappointed. Chicago has the bears. I suggest that the mascot be the walleye, our state fish. A fish is so much more endearing than TC. And what is more Minnesota than having a mascot called "Wally." No more TShirt gun, Wally could pass out tickets to St Matthew's Lutheran Church's hotdish potluck. https://www.sos.state.mn.us/about-minnesota/state-symbols/state-fish-walleye/
  2. Dallas Braden is on the A's broadcast team. He also is on "Baseball is Dead" podcast. He is critical on that show when issues come up on which he can render opinion. Not bashful. Except for the A's. Never a bad word about them and he skirts or deflects the discussion when it comes to the A's. He knows who butters his bread. I enjoy his presence on the podcast but I am also aware of when his shoes are too tight. The fiddler always determines who what song he plays.
  3. Good article from MLB/Park. "“I don't know if this is the right thing to say before going to become a free agent,” Gray said. “But I'll say it because it's honest: Money is not the ultimate factor for me. Never has been. Having said that, you want to be valued appropriately.” "Now that Gray and his family have experienced two years here, does Minnesota check all of their boxes? “It does,” Gray said without hesitation. “We've had an incredible experience here." https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/sonny-gray-on-possible-future-with-twins-before-hitting-free-agency What say thee? Signs elsewhere (and with whom) or stays here. My vote? Walking shoes, any contender. Let's say Atlanta since he is a Vanderbilt Commodore.
  4. A really lovely sign off from May:
  5. Just a quick link to Camargo's stats. Only saw him once so that data is impressive offensively and defensively. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=camarg000jai&utm_medium=linker&utm_source=twinsdaily.com&utm_campaign=2023-10-15_br
  6. CBS Sports reports: "According to ESPN, the Marlins wanted to hire a president of baseball operations to work above Ng, pushing her into the No. 2 decision-maker's seat. She also rejected a contract extension..."
  7. Place a bet w/a bookie. Interest goes straight up.
  8. Excellent article, well researched, clearly written, though I don't come to the same conclusion. From where does the criticism of Baldelli come? Many of us grew up on a different brand of baseball. "Baldelli" becomes a symbol of what we resent in the changed game. He is bound to catch flack (not Fleck). I am part of that herd. Baldelli is following the script set by the FO. Neither of us truly knows how much latitude he has in going in a different direction anymore than we know his true impact within the clubhouse. He is penned in to a style of baseball which dictates his decisions. His personality lends to that role. Is he a good manager? I think we need to remember that 52 of his games (32%) are played within a division where not one team (save Twins) had a .500 record. Talk about stacking the deck for statistical composition. I think he is a good person for this FO. How responsible he is for the stats you listed is another issue. I don't know if he is a good manager. I know he and his (their) brand of baseball doesn't appeal to me. After all, this is entertainment, not the chess game it has become. What I do know? The Twins finished 87-75 in the worst division of baseball, with a disproportionate amount of those games against losing teams. Thanks for taking the time to present such a thoroughly researched article. db
  9. The Twins had the 6th most days lost to injuries. Dodgers led the pack.
  10. I believe it's linked to the final sentence in the article: GM -> CBO. The Athletic reports Ng's disagreement on baseball operations realignment: “In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like and I felt it best to step away,” Ng said.
  11. Ah, I guess that I am stuck in mud Cody, have to disagree on this one. "Progression?" I think there is a virus in MLB when starters (Ryan/Berrios) get pulled in early innings. We have gone from 6.0 inn/starter to about 5.0 in 20 years .I go to see Ryan vs Berrios, not Thielbar vs Cabrera. This game is for our entertainment, not for GMs to play with their Etch a Sketches behind the curtain. Arms are hanging from the clubhouse ceiling like nobody's business. From innings? No. From the ever increasing pressure of throwing harder and faster in those abbreviated starts. Stop it. All these injuries are not progress. If you pull him at 5 inn and he will use up all the gas in those inn since he needn't keep anything in reserve for the 6th and beyond. This is not progress. What to do? Limit, don't expand the roster number. Reduce the number of pitchers from 13 to 12. Adjust the DH. When a starter gets yanked, the reliever must assume the DH position in the lineup. Progression. Guess we can have different visions of what constitutes it.
  12. For $1.8,MM, I resign him. Both he and Farmer. Such utility. Someone used the word "value." Bingo, couldn't agree more.
  13. "Reasonable price" and "2nd tier starter" is an oxymoron. Pitchers are in such short supply, prices are going to be driven madly up. Everyone needs arms. https://www.mlb.com/news/baseball-s-next-free-agent-classes
  14. Bookmarked. Very helpful chronology.
  15. 14/29 AB end in Ks. 73 in post season. Bad ball. No other way to describe it.
  16. Davey Roberts will be on top step, biting nails from inn 1. Throwing Lance Lynn. Career post season. Career post season. 5 Starts ERA 5.28 IP 58 SO 56 wHip 1.64
  17. Curiosity got the best of me. Any 3 add't defensive players may wear one. $19.99 for more beyond the 3 at the concessions as previously posted. (Plus 15% tip).
  18. Logistical question: Which field players get to wear the pitchcomm besides pitch/catch?
  19. Was going to grab a tix off StubHub for $50. Vacillated for 20 min this morning and turned It down. I just gave my wife $25 and said, "Buy yourself something and bring home the change."
  20. We're going to see Castro sooner than I expected.
  21. 64Ks in 6 postseason games. And we're in the 3rd.
  22. This planning out the game before the game drives me crazy. Rocco, give John Schneider of the Jays a call ...
