  1. Pumpkin patch bonanza. I grew 3 different varieties of cucurbits to use in our annual competition - this year, growing and then making best pumpkin pie for our spouses judging event. Wish me well. Going to use cream cheese, vanilla extract, maple syrup/half&half, and freshly ground cloves and cinnamon for the win! I will cart excess pumpkins to our local food pantry. There will be plenty.
  2. Well, I'll be. Sterling does an encore in October, coming back to announce Yanks post-season. https://awfulannouncing.com/local-networks/suzyn-waldman-john-sterling-postseason-return-yankees-broadcast-booth.html I will admit to telling my sister in law that women in the booth were difficult for this dinosaur to listen to (Jessica Mendoza, an exception). But with time, SWeldman has grown on me. What I like is that she has an uncanny ability to get clubhouse info which we, in this market, never get on our own team. <Crickets>.
  3. With the Reds rolling into town, suggest turning on WLW radio (Cinci) and listen to Jeff Brantley do color for them. Gives a good education of baseball, very descriptive, offers you the insights of a former pitcher. and his Alabama voice takes me back to the 4 years I lived in the Cotton State.
  4. Says it all. Tough to face the homies now that it has been in Sports Illustrated, CBS national sports, and picked up all up and down the line.
  5. Gladden reports that Lewis was doing 40-50 yd sprints for an extended period of time before game. No report if it was Principal-imposed.
  6. Rob Refsnyder (Bosox) went 4-4 last night, is hitting .285 at age 33. Was recognized by Boston last eve as community supporter of the year for the Red Sox. Just prior to stepping to mike, his young daughter puked all over him. Took it in stride.
  7. Haven't seen Kersey play. A nickel's worth on his defense in CF from those who have had eyes on. TIA.
  8. Tigers have won 3 straight and are throttling the Rockies tonight.
  9. All is not lost. Farmer has breached the Mendoza line. Note it before it drops.
  10. The most games he has played in a "full season" is 127.. Here is a 25 yr old guy, the most gregarious, effusive, positive lad on the team. Makes one comment to a reporter about not wanting to play 2B, how he is laboring thru a grind, and we come down on him like a ton of bricks? Really? Glad no reporters were around to pick up some of my "richer," throw-away lines I wish I had back from 45 years of my grind. I personally think he was caught at a distressed time and let fly with some frustration. Bring it around, Lewis.
  11. To lose the clubhouse would mean that Baldelli at one time had it. While we get only a partial picture of his leadership (sic), I am not convinced this is a man for whom I would have cared to work.
  12. Have never cared for Kepler and won't be sorry to see him move on. His seasons are much too variable in results for my preferences. But my main problem is "me first." Don't care to cover CF? Too bad; shuffle over son.
  13. Not a Rocco fan nor more knowledgeable. But his seeming form of leadership is to plow through data sheets and once again play chess with the lineup. Bah.
  14. Top of the 9th this evening, Joyce of the Angels came out of BP and threw a 106 mph fastball, striking out Smith of the Dodgers to hold score at 2-2. Unreal.
  15. Have the Pirates game on radio feed ; Rookie Skenes pitching. First pitch, 99mph FB. 109 inn; 132 Ks, 26 BBs. 0.95 wHip. .200 HA, 2.22 ERA. Bamm. ..
  16. 5 hours to first pitch and I am already so, so confused.
  17. One of the stats I key in on this part of the season is W/L record against teams w/record >.500. Twins are .435. In now slumping against teams below .500, Twins are working out of their way out of WC; will get mired into 3rd or 4th against streaking (7-3) Tigers.
  18. I know that refrain from every year he has coached 3rd. I think ownership is making a plaster cast of him.
  19. Cards radio booth: "Fedde works fast out there. In fact, his car is double parked out on I-94." 😜
  20. Alan Busenitz is pitching for the. Louisville Bats, throwing 4-2, with a 4.24 ERA.
  21. Astudillo continues to bounce back. Resurrected in Aguascalientes Mexican League. Turtles have 9 lives.
  22. Love Onion's satire. Hey, I throw an occasional bet and enjoy the ponies when we are in Phoen ix. But the volume and frequency whilch MLB runs betting platforms are going to come right around and bite them in the arse.
  23. Greene tossing a no hitter thru 5 for Reds vs Rays.
  24. Thank goodness Cleve smells like 10 day old herring as of late as well,
