  1. Twins could probably receive a good haul for Buxton....only one year of team control after this year and he's not signing an extension here.
  2. May has been decent but he's also getting paid 8 million dollars. He's far from a sure thing too. I would've put my money on Duffey being better this year. But the season is still young. Colome's stuff looks good still, he's just not locating anything, or tipping his pitches, or something.
  3. Puckett was also the third overall pick and was always a highly touted prospect who everyone knew would play in the show, at least because of his premium defense at a premium defensive position. Not so for Astudillo, who is almost 30, isn't even average defensively at any position and is almost exactly a league average hitter. OPS+ is 104. That's good for a utility guy, but don't compare him to a hall of famer.
  4. Ortiz has the PED tag as well, though for some reason people are going to overlook it and vite him into the HOF anyway. I would assume Cruz wouldn't get in because of the suspension, but 500 homers, a world series ring and postseason heroics would definitely help his case. Mcgwire has 583 home runs and never got close to getting in. He wasn't mentioned on the PED list in the article either.
  5. Definitely feel bad for Gibby. Not a good look for his first opening day start ever.
  6. Rooker was hurt then though, and Garlick wasn't on the team and OPS'ing 1.100. There are better options than AK at this moment.
  7. Spotrac says 117. 16th in MLB, below league average. CWS are at 123. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/minnesota-twins/payroll/
  8. I get that's your opinion but don't understand this sentiment. He's a two time all-star. How many teams, even playoff teams, have 2 or 3 guys ahead of him? Dodgers, Padres, Nationals and...Rays certainly don't. A's don't. Yankees don't. He makes any rotation in baseball better. If you use mlb wide sp statistics he's a backend #1 or high #2.
  9. Start Rooker in left. Best bat. He will hit.
  10. Color me surprised to hear that Arraez is not expected to play corner OF. I also wouldn't be surprised if Baldelli and the FO put the best team out there which involves Kiriloff starting the season in St. Paul. Rooker could easily out-hit Kiriloff this year. He set the world on fire in a small sample size last year and has hit at every milb level.
  11. Fielding percentage is pretty worthless too. More worthless than rbi's. Wins are meaningful for lots of HOF voters still, unfortunately.
  12. I love Dozier as much as anybody but I think the bar should be set a little higher than that. He was a one time all star, won one gold glove and had 3 seasons with the team where he was an above average hitter. 22.9 career war with the Twins puts his resume right there with Corey Koskie, also a good player but not a Twins HOF'er.
  13. Ryu is definitely better than any of the Twins starters. That's why he was an expensive FA signing. His career ERA is under 3.
  14. Remember Joe Nathan and Johan Santana? The playoff problems can't be simplified into lack of an ace and no lights out closer. Pitching was good last year. Maeda and Berrios were both great in the playoff series. Maeda finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting.
  15. Nick Gordon and Travis Blankenhorn
  16. I think you're right on another utility INF. But I bet if there is a long term injury to Polanco, Donaldson, Simmons, or Arraez, we see Blankenhorn or even Nick Gordon get called up and play every day.
  17. Probably the salary. Marwin was drastically overpaid.
  18. Agreed. And Betts probably should have won the MVP last year, so that has worked out well so far.
  19. David Ortiz was worth 5.2 WAR as a DH in his age 40 season. Also a HOF player. At least I think he will get in- he does have the PED asterisk though.
  20. Why is David Ortiz not on this list? 5.2 WAR as a DH in his age 40 season. It was arguably his best, with an OPS over 1.000 and 127 RBI's, which led the league. He finished 3rd in MVP voting.
  21. I agree with your subjective eye test except Rivas was probably better that year than Polanco will be at second, and Donaldson has historically been better than Koskie at third. Next year, I'd expect Donaldson to slow down some though. 3B is close. 1B is not close. Dougie was really good there.
  22. Voting is and always has been weird. Killer's first year there was Bob Gibson, then in his second year, Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson. His third year had Brooks Robinson. But Killebrew was arguably the most feared hitter of his era and should have been first ballot.
  23. Polanco is way more athletic and much faster than Arraez. This is why everyone is saying he will be better defensively at 2nd than Arraez.
  24. You can't actually think Schilling's numbers aren't good enough to get him in. He has 3100 something strikeouts. Every pitcher with more is in the hall, except Roger Clemens. He has 80 WAR, almost twice as much as Jack Morris. He is arguably the greatest postseason pitcher in modern baseball history. He has 3 world series rings. If he doesn't get in, he would be easily the best pitcher not named Roger Clemens to be left out of the hall of fame. Arguments against? Well, he never won a cy young, but he had three second place finishes and would have won two if his teammate wasn't Randy Johnson, who won two. Dozens of HOF pitchers don't have a cy young and many never finished top 2 or top 3. I suppose you could argue his ERA is relatively high. But his park adjusted ERA+ is 127, which is the same as Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson. He pitched in Fenway during the steroid era. He's not in because of character issues, period.
