  1. I think of Clint Eastwoods housekeeper's neighbor, whose daughter adopted a boy named Boyd.
  2. My daughter and I were watching some crime show. The headline of the local newspaper from the show read, "Local man, shoots himself several times, dies of apparent suicide". We both looked at each other with a quizzical look.
  3. You could also try gargling peanut butter for 30 seconds. Give it a shot.
  4. I know, I knit all my own socks since my kids got older and don't give them as gifts.
  5. So, turn your tv off and read a book. We'll let you know the final score.
  6. Before I forget, Happy Father's Day to all those dads out there, especially Al Pacino. "Say hello to my little friend".
  7. I remember his best years with the Bosox.
  8. Is Squirt Bottle Boyd, any relation to Oil Can Boyd?
  9. Is this the first meeting of the season between the Twins and Tigers?
  10. I would only edit the first sentence of Dr Gast's post. ."Reggie Jackson was known as Mr. October because he was so so during the season but turned it on whenever the bright lights came on". So-so?
  11. Until ownership includes wins and losses as part of a success formula, nothing is going to change. Fans measure success in terms of the standings, while ownership/FO looks at the bottom line $. If we could work a compromise, I ultimately feel we can achieve both. More wins equals more revenue. More revenue should increase the payroll enough to bring in high quality players. Our product is entertainment, not widget production.
  12. Nothing is going to change until the fans force a change. If ticket sales plummet, and franchised merchandise sales drop, maybe the FO will listen. Unfortunately, corporate ticket sales and the tv revenue contract will keep some teams afloat. This team is a slap in the face of loyal fans. They are being shown an inferior product, with no chance of change in sight. Fans are being taken for granted. It needs to stop.
  13. Putting performance aside for just a moment, the one thing this Twins team lacks is a bit of swagger. A couple of guys show it, but then don't back it up with their performance. But just look at the team when the camera pans the dugout. Most of them look like they just sat through watching "Old Yeller". Kepler, looks like he's gonna cry (as well he should), Kiriloff looks depressed and the bullpen guys look like deer staring into headlights. Most of the guys look embarrassed wearing the vest and playing with the toy fishing rod. Come on, get tough, let's see some 'marbles'. Maybe some intensity can jump start these guys. This is a terrible division. It's there for the taking. Rocco, let these guys play. Ok, if they're hurt take them out, but don't automatically make a move and escort back them to the dugout. Show some grit, and employ some basic strategy that has been around for years. What you're doing now is not working.
  14. I believe buxton will play cf late in the season in preparation for a possible playoff experience. I don't foresee the Twins changing their current philosophy with Buxton, this early.
  15. For my 2 cents worth: I don't believe you can say there is no room, when you talk about pitchers. When there is no vacancy it's usually short lived.
  16. We all have a decent idea of what the fans think of Baldelli. Will the FO ever follow suit? Today's finale with the Yankees really exposed where Baldelli is coming from. The lineup was another hodge podge, his pitching decisions were questionable, and the worst is that he pretty much threw in the towel, with half a game to be played. What is going through his mind? It's one thing to have ateam that has needs, but to compound things with a manager like Baldelli, is not acceptable. Twins fans have gone through many years of suffering, frustration and mediocrity. We need a manager who can shake things up and make things happen, Obviously, this type of team is not Baldelli's forte. So we go through the motions again and again, with the same results. 1987 and 1991 should not be the only exceptions to years of mediocrity. .
  17. Miranda's double play was in a large part due to the Bosox player failing to stop. Had he stopped and had Miranda go after him, the player is safe at first. Classic example of 'running yourself into a double play (by the Bosox).
  18. While every team has injury issues, the Twins seem to have more and more serious issues. I feel their approach to individual's physical health and rehabilitation has to come into question. The way Baldelli babies these guys with what seem to be minor injuries, it seems even more confusing. His resting of players throughout the season isn't the answer. Maybe they need to play through the minor aches and pains to build up some stamina or resistance. It's really confusing. so much so, that it seems to be more than a coincidence.
  19. Too much value placed on pitchers in MLB. They're all one ulnar nerve away from being a flop.
  20. The way Buck was hitting last year, you wouldn't think too much about the shift. He seemed to beat the shift by hitting the ball into the stands, on a lot of occasions.
  21. When I was a kid, baseball was king. No soccer, no video games, no other activities that competed with baseball. With teams full of players, you had to be the best at fundamentals to get more paying time. You also had parents who would lend their time to coaching. Now the parents hardly even drop their kids off at the practice field. How many times after dinner did I throw a rubber ball against the side of the garage practicing fielding. I can't remember how many MLB players I struck out, pitching against a brick wall. The bottom line, playing and honing your basic baseball skills was a common thing. My older brother schooled me in the strategy of baseball. He explained the cut off throw, the taking of an extra base, etc. So I firmly agree with the above comment. The basics are no longer ingrained. Kids spend the majority of their time in the batting cage. Baseball is such a more complicated game than swinging for the fences.
  22. Methinks the aroma of jealousy is wafting in the air.
  23. Correia's decision to stay or opt out is going to be on someone's shoulder, not his. If he stays, he'll look like a great guy, solely looking to build a championship for Twins fans. If he opts out, it will probably, make him look like a great family man, doing what's best for his family in the long run. The Twins will never will a bidding war for correia's services for a long period of time. So, he can just sit back, do his thing, and collect his dough. About the only thing he has to worry about, is getting hurt.
