He wont be in the top 10, The Pohlads are secretly paying BBWAA writers to leave Buxton off their ballots to avoid having to pay out the $3 mil.

Ryan's value is extremely high right now and would bring in a haul of prospects. As much as I would hate to trade him, it's probably the right move since the Twins wont be competitive for the next 2 years. Even if Ryan pitches at a Cy Young level his value is irrelevant to a 60-70 win team. There's a big risk to not trading Ryan right now. If he gets injured, which he's been prone to do, his value could plummet. They should just trade both him and Lopez which will make it even easier for me to stay away from Target field.

I actually think a lot of people are doing the same. Attendance for the rest of the year will continue to dwindle and next year I ticket sales will fall drastically. I've been following the twins daily for decades but I'm at a point where I'm completely disinterested in them. When you lose a fan like me (and sounds like you as well) you've completely f****d up an organization.

There's plenty of blame to go around but there is no chance Falvey would have resigned Correa if ownership was going to cut payroll the next season. That completely hamstrung what the FO could do. Most of the blame should be on the Pohlads.

You laid out a lot of great points in this article. As much as I can't stand ownership and to a lesser extent the FO, they aren't significantly worse off right now than before. Obviously their bullpen took a significant step back, but as you mentioned, that is the easiest to fix. Our rotation is much deeper than at the beginning of the year which was already impressive. I imagine at least 1-2 of the backend guys could turn into shut down backend relievers if they fail as starters. You hit the nail on the head with your assessment of the current lineup. We're still relying on Lewis, Lee, Larnch, Wallner and to a lesser extent Martin & Julien to step up next year. If they can't, the 2026 Twins wouldn't have been competitive regardless if they kept all the top guys. I am still pissed about the Varland trade though, that just makes no sense to me.

I think the front office will have to strongly consider trading Castro this offseason. With Austin and Lee having position flexibility and if Julien can figure it out we should have enough internal options to replace Castro. I don't want to trade him but $8 mil is a lot if payroll is going to be cut again next year.

It's crazy that when I looked at his stat line I was actually a bit disapointed in is performance yesterday. That's just how dominant he's been this year.

2024: The Joe Ryan Renaissance
Launch Angle replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In 2022 Ryan got absolutely shelled against non AL central teams but this year he was significantly better. That was a significant concern coming into this year but he did much better in 2023 especially when considering they played AL central teams much less due to the leaguewide change in scheduling.- 11 replies

Varland should certainly be given one more shot to be a quality starter, he has proven in spurts that he could turn into a mid-rotation asset. My question is how much upside does he have in the rotation vs being a potential lights out set up man. Is being a quality #4 starter more valuable than a great bullpen arm? Personally, I think he'd need to reach the level of a solild #3 (which I think is possible), and if he cant be that I'd move him to the pen. I'm excited to see if he can continue to improve on last year, especially with the new cutter he discovered.

Great take! Let's keep all our hitters at AAA so they don't potentially get embarassed by major league pitching. Frankly, Jeffers and Wallner should be cut after such terrible games.

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
Launch Angle replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Phillies had the 4th highest payroll this year, we're not able compete with that. Outside of Jose Ramirez (less than Mauers still), The Guardians aren't giving out mega large contracts on their books. Yes the Pohlad's may be cheap but that's always been the case, as fans we just have to deal with that. There's more than one way to build a winner and for small to mid market teams it's not by giving a single player a huge long term contract that will hurt the team down the road once they stop producing. The Rays, Guardians and Athletics have consistently made the playoffs without handing out mega contracts.- 86 replies

Launch Angle replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You missed the point of this comment, the Twins aren't in the same market as the Met's, Phillies, Dodger's or Angels. The Braves are much closer in terms of payroll but still higher. And I wouldn't consider Acuna's or Ablies' contracts as mega contracts. They were both considered way below market value, they each gave a huge hometown discount for long term financial security.- 86 replies

Article: Running Down The Hall (Of Fame Ballot)
Launch Angle replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Omar Vizquel can make it with little offensive value, Edgar Martinez should have been in years ago. Regardless of how people feel about the DH, its still a position in baseball and if you are the best at your position you deserve to be in the hall. It's no different than an elite closer making it in.
