  1. I agree. These minor league reports are MUCH appreciated! And great to see some impressive strikeout numbers by both Varland and Festa. Keep 'em coming ... both the strikeouts and these detailed reports!
  2. Some funky shadows there in the late innings. Thank you mother nature!
  3. Yes indeed, Beating teams like the Royals and Marlins is encouraging, but if we can't stick it to the likes of the Astros and Yankees we ain't going anywhere this year.
  4. That's the first I noticed that Raya was on the IL also. Any details? Hope it's nothing long-term.
  5. Thanks for all the comments and input on these players. Other than the "star" prospects I don't know much about most of the others in the minors. Good to get more background on these guys. Hopefully, some of them actually CAN contribute to the MLB club in the near future.
  6. As others have suggested, maybe the time to re-visit this trade is later in the season. At that point, hopefully Mahle is starting regularly and pitching well. And for the Reds, Steer looks like a solid starter at third and when CES is healthy he might come up and start mashing like he did in spring training. Or not. Way too early to tell. But I liked the trade when it was made and I still like it. The Twins absolutely needed another strong arm in the rotation and they got one, and got it without dealing any of their more highly coveted prospects. Could be a win-win for both teams and that's great.
  7. Anyone but Kepler. Buxton makes some sense on many levels, but his OBP doesn't seem to warrant having him leading off. I'm intrigued by Nick Gordan as a possibility, but he's not a regular starter at this point in the season, so maybe we use someone like Farmer or even Gallo? Yeah, plenty of strike outs, but he knows how to take a walk. Honestly, I don't think it's a big concern as long as we are not leaving too many men on base.
  8. When does the Japanese baseball season start? I'm anxiously waiting for an Astudillo update!
  9. I'm actually rooting for Cave to succeed in Philly. The fact that he made the opening roster is pretty impressive, although you have to factor in the Philly injuries too. But hey, hope he stays on the team.
  10. That was Hunter Pence, the ex-Giants outfielder, that came out to pull him.
  11. Man, that's sad to see. He was the ultra "hot" prospect only a few years ago. Then again, he was very very young when he signed and sometimes those kids don't develop as expected.
  12. Very happy to see Dobnak on the mound and pitching well again. Hope they keep him in a starting role, even if he has to stay in St. Paul for most of the season. Now that he appears healthy, I hope his confidence returns too.
  13. Very satisfying to start the season with a 3-game sweep, but we also have to put it in perspective: we were playing against Kansas City.
  14. Yeah, baseball is a funny game. For his first month in Detroit that year, Baddoo was on fire, looking like an all-star in the making. But then he cooled off and came back down to earth. I still think he's a good player, and he should be back in Detroit before the summer is over, but maybe those all-star plans will have to wait.
  15. I loved the Taylor signing. And yes, I agree that it was one of the more underrated moves by the Twins front office over the off-season. Taylor is obviously a gifted fielder, but I also think he can hold his own with the bat too. Very happy to have him on this team.
  16. Yes, it's nice to see players like LaMarre still hanging in there and contributing, even if it means another long stint in the minor leagues. I guess at some point players like this realize they will never be a regular starter in the majors, so they accept the role of being a AAAA player, or one that is destined to bounce around from team to team. I'm also pulling for guys like this!
  17. Yeah, I'm still getting used to these new caps. I think I'll eventually end up liking them, but for now every time I glimpse one of those hats I think: Marlins.
  18. And in another opener, Spencer Steer homered for the Reds.
  19. I noticed that in the box score too, Shocking. He almost had a homer but the center fielder from Texas made a good catch. And in the same game our old pal Robbie Grossman homered.
  20. Who will be the Twins' top hitter in 2023? How do we qualify this one? Based on batting average? OBP? OPS? Slugging percentage, or which metric ? I'm old school, so all these new stats and measurements tend to make my head spin! For overall hitting, I'll go out on a limb and suggest Nick Gordon!
  21. Way cool indeed. Reading about the Romo "farewell" outing in spring training was also nice. Seems like a good guy.
  22. I always appreciate these updates, but let's hope this thread isn't quite as "active" as last year's flurry of roster moves. Of course there will always be some injuries, but a bit of stability would be very nice!
  23. Yeah, I don't see a huge jump in innings per start. After last year it almost has to get better, but that "third time through the order" syndrome will remain to be a factor for some starters.
  24. Regarding the bullpen this year, I think that having a healthy Alcala is going to make a huge difference. With him and Lopez and Duran in the late innings the Twins SHOULD be in good hands!
