  1. I'm discouraged but not ready to write off the team's chances just yet. Lots of variables and "What Ifs" still at play. Buxton could come back and put it all together. Mauer could be healthy and productive again. Polanco will return and show the form we saw in the second half last year. Santana will also be back and should help the rotation. Morrison might get hot. And another wild card, Michael Pineda might help the final couple of months (on that note: does anyone know what is his timeline to join the club?). Plenty of things that COULD help the team in the coming months, but who knows how it will all play out? But hey, that's the joy --- and aggravation -- of this game.
  2. Good question. Every time I check these reports it seems like Wells has pitcher another impressive game.
  3. Ugh, what a sobering realization that is. Me thinks it's time to crack open another beer and contemplate the meaning of life once again.
  4. Any idea if Kody Funderburk is related to ex-Twins minor league slugger Mark Funderburk? Man, that guy was a monster in the minors for the Twins back in the day.
  5. Someone ought to get out the big razor and shave Sano's head. Maybe that will wake him up!
  6. Good to see Ben Rortvedt off to a good start in Fort Myers. I've always thought that he was going to be a keeper, one that could/should reach the majors eventually. I'll be watching his progress and wish him luck.
  7. Good question. And i still like the idea of getting both Sal Butera and Nick Butera so share backstop duties for a while!
  8. I'd never noticed the name Andro Cutura before, but some nice recent stats, and what a great baseball name that is! You mentioned that he was a 7th round pick from 2014. How does he fit into the "prospect" list at this point? or is even considered someone that the organization thinks might potentially reach the majors?
  9. I agree. Baddoo was due! After such a slow start to the season I hope he starts putting it all together over the summer.
  10. Seeing the name Johnny Ard (from 1988) in the first paragraph brought back a lot of memories. I saw him pitch for Orlando when he was in the minors. Such high hopes for that kid, but yet another "hot" prospect who fizzled out and never made the big leagues. Just never can tell what will end up happening with these high school players, especially the pitchers.
  11. I'd been thinking a pitcher would be the Twins lone representative, but the way Rosario keeps playing ... hmm, he might be the one. Then again, if this teams starts to put it together, having two All-Star picks wouldn't be so far-fetched either.
  12. On the surface, or at least from my hackneyed perspective, Larnach looks like a rather underwhelming pick, one that doesn't move the needle either way for me. Lots of comparisons to Rooker, so I'm not sure what he offers that the Twins are looking for. Then again, as others have noted, the draft is indeed a crapshoot, so who really knows how these players will pan out over the next few years. All we can hope is that, as they did last year, the front office did their homework and targeted some players with true tools and potential.
  13. I had never heard of Bencomo before. Let's hope he has more starts like that one. But's he's no spring chicken. I checked online and saw that he's not 29 years old. So, not a hot young prospect ... but maybe a late bloomer?
  14. I'm one of those old school fans that still loves to see players stealing bases. I realizes that it now goes against the "new" strategy and analytics that teams have embraced in recent years, but darn, it's exciting to watch. And fast players like Buxton (when healthy) are certainly capable of stealing a lot of bases. Surprised to see Dozier so high on that list. Not sure if he'll top the 100 mark this year or not.
  15. Yeah, Buxton DID say the right things in that article. It makes sense that the toe injury would affect his running and confidence in stealing bases. But I'm still not sure if that's a good excuse for his batting woes all year. In any case, like Nick, said, I hope that the team is patient and give him time to heal, and also give him a proper rehab stint in the minors next time around before they bring him up again.
  16. Any updates, or even conjecture, on the Mauer DL stint? Will we see him back with the club in early June, or is it Carter time?
  17. Yeah, some scary stats for Baddoo. Sure, the season is still young, but I had very high hopes for him. Has he had any injury concerns or what is the problem for him this year?
  18. Thumbs up from me too. Great article and roundup on the top prospects. I especially like the addition of the stats, both for the full season and the past 28 days. Looking forward to seeing this a regular feature.
  19. Great to read this reports from down on the farm, Keep 'em coming! And very gratifying to see many of our prospects playing well so far this year. Man, we need some good news during these trying days in Minnesota.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, Hu was traded for Kevin Jepsen late in the season (was that 2015?) when we were trying to strengthen our bullpen.
  21. Yeah, that's an "ouch" realization. Seeing that a rebuilding Detroit team is ahead of us in the standings (and managed by Gardenhire!) really, really hurts. I didn't think that things would go this wrong so quickly. But hey, that's the nature of baseball.
  22. I'm still shocked that we got anything atall for Hughes, A shame that we also had to give up that draft pick. Yeah, it was not a high one, but a pick is still a pick, and sometimes those lower ones are keepers. But I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Good luck to Phil on the Left Coast!
  23. Good to see Kohl Stewart back from being on the "temporary inactive list." That one puzzled me --- and worried me --- last week. Any idea what that was all about?
  24. It's a depressing thought (one of many I've had this week), and I know this is a VERY premature one, but I hope Buxton's future is not as a pinch runner and/or late inning defensive replacement. Double sign.
