  1. Seems like Woods-Richardson is suffering from lack of support. I don't know if he is really that good but he is pitching well without much help.
  2. 1965 was a magical year for the Twins. I remember Killebrew hitting a home run in the game on Sunday just before the All-Star game. I think it was off Whitey Ford who didn't give up too many to the Twins in his career though he was on the backside of his career. Of course, the Twins came within 1 pitch of winning the World Series that year (Johnson's home run).
  3. If the team stays healthy and can get past the Yankees (who are falling big time), they have a legitimate path to the LCS. In the playoffs, you only need 3 starters and a good bullpen and we have that. It would be nice to get a horse like Scherzer but I don't see us forking over the money. I can see us maybe getting Berrios or Bassitt or maybe Tallion (whom I like) or a lefty starter from somewhere (but NOT Kukuchi). The key, though, is to be healthy at playoff time. And let's take 5 of 6 from the Indians though Classe won't allow that.
  4. The Twins are swinging at tons of high pitches and hitting weak fly balls. We let them get awat in the first inning but got Fedde out of the game. Now we need to do something vs their bullpen. So far we look terrible. And now we have a 3 run hole to get out of. Looks bad for game 1. I hate Larnach and can't see him batting 3rd in the lineup. I'd trade him if I could.
  5. When Lewis returns, Farmer has to go. As far as pitchers, we need a dependable starter and, as I have mentioned somewhere else, I'd see if Jameson Taillon is available. The Cubs need hitting and we need a dependable, veteran starter.
  6. The Twins need a starter. I think someone not mentioned is Jameson Taillon if the Cubs are willing to trade. They need hitting and we need pitching. Why not put a package together?
  7. Kikuchi is not as good as you think. Bassett is too expensive for us. So is Gausman who has been a big mystery this year. Why wouldn't we want Berrios back? He's not a #1 but is a solid starter who is not as expensive. I like Woods-Richardson but see him more of a Les Straker type. Hopefully I will be proven wrong. If we can rent Scherzer, I say roll with what we have and hope the good hitting continues.
  8. Scherzer would be the only pitcher I would want from Texas. Eovaldi would be nice but I doubt Texas would trade him until they are out of it. Both are very expensive but the Mets are footing part of Max's contract. If we want to go for it this year (and it looks like we will have to play the Yankees first), I want Max.
  9. Of those not chosen, I think Jax is most deserving. But middle relievers just don't get consideration (I know he has a few saves as well). Miranda has come on strong in June and could be a replacement. Castro is a nice story but utility men also rarely get chosen. I would not choose Ryan as he has been too inconsistent and there are other pitchers who have been better. I'm surprised only 3 Orioles have made it. There are always snubs who will be talked about and those who will sit it out. It's amazing that so many young pitchers for both sides are in. I think Sale and Burnes should start but all eyes will want the Pirates star to start.
  10. Unlike others, I think our relievers are just fine. It would be better if Thielbar will bounce back. I wouldn't trade the farm (but would trade Farmer) for a reliever. Now a starter would be better and there should be several out there for the asking. Just don't get anyone who breaks down.
  11. Some players are just injury prone and we have had more than our share. let's hope Lee can hit major league pitching and Miranda and Castro keep going. I guess we'll see where we are in late August to determine if we should shut Lewis down for the year.
  12. While Garrett as a starter and Puk as a reliever could help, nobody makes me say "yes". I'd look elsewhere for pitching. Chisholm would be an exciting addition but we'd need to give up too much IMHO. Josh Bell? You've got to be kidding. I'd still look at trading Buxton to get a big name or two. Bux can't stay on the field but may have good value to somebody.
  13. It's difficult to determine just how good these prospects/suspects are since so many are injured. I'd hate to give up someone who could be helpful later on for a rental to chase a pipe dream. Are we gonna be better than the O's or Yanks this year? If we get hot and get to the WS, can we compete with the Dodgers, Braves or even Padres? It would be nice to see but it's not likely to happen.
  14. Varland may be pumped and telling himself "I need to show them NOW" and might pitch 5 good innings. Getting sent down can affect a player's psyche and cause a letdown. Maybe getting a shot here will give him a shot in the arm.
  15. We seem to have the resources to solve what you call a problem. If we do trade or rent a player, it means giving up someone who could help later on and I'm not sure that would be a smart move. I'm not giving up on Julien or Kirloff just yet. I also think that, if Miranda loses playing time, he will lose his swing and slump down. Why the team would waste time with someone like Farmer is a mystery to me. Santana has been through the wars and his experience could be helpful. Castro is a good fill-in and on base person. Vasquez does what a catcher is supposed to do- handle the pitchers and cut down a share of baserunners. The main thing for us is health. If we are healthy, we are ok. If not, we drop down to below .500. I agree that we need to bring up 1 or 2 minor leaguers rather than trade any of the resources we have.
  16. Anything can happen before Lewis comes back. If no one gets hurt, I would trade Farmer or release him. Sending Julien down is also a possibility unless he quickly picks it up. Castro is also versatile though he seems better in the infield. I don't know why many don't seem to like Larnach. Kiriloff is a mystery to me. Maybe he's still playing hurt??? While I like Miranda, he isn't a world beater but does stay healthy and can play multiple positions. let's just hope he doesn't go back to when he couldn't hit at all.
  17. Like many sluggers, Sano can be an all or nothing guy. He got a bad rap when playing 3B but wasn't really that bad. He never was able to lay off a slider that broke just off the plate. I'm glad he is getting a shot-mainly due to a starter's injury- and is at least holding water right now. He'll hit for 6-8 games then nothing for 8-10 and he'll strike out a lot (but so does Judge and others). When I see him this year, he just takes too many early, over the plate, strikes which puts him in a hole he doesn't get out of. If he couldn't learn to hit better when Cruz was helping him, he never will. But he can hit 25 homers and bat .230 if he gets 400 at bats.
  18. Stats are way overblown during the first 20 games of a season. However, only time will tell if Santana can begin to display what his lifelong stats have been. As for other possible replacements, I'm not keen on any of them. Margot is serviceable, Miranda deserves a shot but hasn't gotten it, Martin could be the best bet, Wallner can't hit, Larnach gets a raw deal and the others we could have had aren't great shakes except maybe Turner. Heck, even Joey Gallo and Miguel Sano are hitting a little this early. It will all wash out eventually and Kepler will return but probably not to the stats he had in the last half of last year. Where's Gordon whom I would not have let go.
  19. And some starters have a 22.00 ERA or higher. These early numbers mean nothing though it's some fun to laugh at them. Most things even out in the long run to what the player's real ability is. Oh, there are some exceptions like Brady Anderson hitting 50 homers, a player (Cubs outfielder I can't remember) going 5 for 5 on opening day or players having super walk-off years (and dopey GMs paying them a fortune because of it) but most things average out.
  20. Though I have had my doubts about Lewis, he's proved that he could be a major league star. He has had injury issues before and, no doubt, will have them again as some players are prone to having them. It's hopeful that he doesn't rush himself back and that the Twins will be ok without him in this weak division. I'd like to see Miranda get a shot at filling in. I'd also look at the waiver wire to see who could do the job. Now let's pray that nobody else gets hurt. Several teams have key players out right now (Cole, Steele, Devon Williams, etc.).
  21. I was not for trading Polanco when the subject came up. However, this deal seems fair for both sides. I think the Twins will be happy with DiSClafani and Topa and Gonzalez may be a helpful addition if someone gets hurt. If the trade opens up at bats for others and they succeed, that also is a plus. But losing Polanco will hurt the offense at this point.
  22. This signing will not be evaluated until Buxton can actually stay on the field and Kiriloff can play. I don't see anything wrong with the signing and wonder why some were writing about his speed or lack of. He's not signed to steal bases. Let's see if Brooks Lee is actually ready and if we can get another good starter before we say the Twins will get to the World Series. Right now they will have a battle with Detroit and maybe Cleveland for the Division.
  23. There are some pitchers available in free agency that may help but management hasn't offered anything? Wood? Carrasco? Lorenzen? Odorizzi (if healthy)? Clevenger? even Matthew Boyd? are all seasoned vets who may be helpful. Some pitchers already signed or traded this past week aren't much to brag about. We'll see.
  24. Anything can happen with youngsters and, while I have never been that high on Lewis, he looks like the real deal IF he stays healthy. I would not trade Polanco in the off-season this year. I think he is one of the 3 most valuable players we have. Again, health is a factor and he isn't getting any younger. I'm more concerned with our starting rotation as Paddack and Varland are BIG question marks (IMHO) and management has done nothing to improve the situation. I see where Odorizzi is a free agent. Is he healthy? Will he come cheap? Is he worth a flier? Is management considering Montgomery or anyone else? I thought after the new year (Happy New Year by the way), we'd sign some help. Where is it?
  25. If he stays healthy, everything else will work out. The goal would be 140 games. then you will see 35 homers and 90 RBI and hopefully a .280+ batting average. Oh, and don't forget about 80 walks.
