  1. My guess is Buxton is on the playoff roster if he is healthy enough to PH or DH. I would prefer Stevenson over Gordon and then Gallo, but based on Gallo still be on the 40 man I agree with you that he will get a playoff roster spot.
  2. The move also opens another slot on the 40 man roster for players coming off the 60 day IL. With the move I believe that there are 2 slots currently open.
  3. I believe that Stevenson is more of a base stealing threat as a PR.
  4. I agree, the Twins need to cinch first. The Cincinnati series is very important as Cle is playing KC and Hou is playing Balt. Ideally the Twins leave Cincinnati with a magic number of 3 or less and know whether the 2 seed is attainable (Balt sweeps Hou.)
  5. I hope Toronto can be the 5 seed which will put 3 East teams in one side of the bracket. It will also probably mean that NYY will be knocked out of the postseason as Tor has 6 games against both TB & NYY. I am hopeful that by the end of the week the Twins will have clinched the division (3 vs Cinn & 3 vs LAA while Cle has 3 vs KC and 4 vs Balt). Of the West teams, I believe that the Twins have a better that 50/50 of winning first round and an good chance (somewhat less than 50/50) of winning the 2nd round.
  6. Hoping Toronto takes care of Yankees. NYYs are 6.5 games out of the last WC. Texas and Seatle have 7 games left against each other.
  7. Not only is it surprising how well Lewis is doing with bases loaded, it's surprising how often he is in that position. He has 12 PA out of a total of 222 (5.41%). The rest of the Twins have come up with bases loaded 119 times out of 5,436 PA (2.19%). He has come up with bases loaded almost 2.5 times more often than the rest of the Twins.
  8. Funderburk looked good after the leadoff walk.
  9. I don't think Rocco has a lot of trust in the BP, other than Thielbar and Duran. If he had 4 lockdown relievers, I agree with pulling the starter after 5. If Lopez or Gray have 70-75 pitches through 5 who does Baldelli use for 6th, the starter or a choice of Pagan, Jax or any of the other 4 relievers on the postseason roster? I'm hoping for the starter and if the starter is at 80-85 after 6, I would let him start the 7th. If Stewart comes back in good form that would give you 3 trusted arms.
  10. Watching the Sox broadcast when Lewis came up the bases loaded they showed his 2022/23 base loaded history. 11 PA, BA .545 4 grand slams, I don't think the Sox wanted to give him anything to hit. Closest thing to an intentional walk.
  11. The problem with going to 11 pitchers is that the Twins now have a 6 man bench. Just think of the all the moves Baldelli's spreadsheet/computer will tell him to make.
  12. I had Stevenson over Luplow because there will be times when a PR/stolen base is needed.
  13. Off the topic, but I was wondering how many years of team control do the Twins have on Royce Lewis? TIA
  14. Per the Twins transaction reports Alcala was put on the 60 day on 6/18. When I look at the 40 man the Twins list 48, with 9 on the 60 day. If that is correct one of the injured players can come off with a corresponding move to the 40 man.
  15. Yes, I'm been typing Valdez for Vazquez for a couple days. My only defense is that Vazquez looks as slow as the Exxon Valdez, /s
  16. Agreed! However, say a game went into extra innings and you wanted a RH bat. Your choices are Valdez or Buxton. I would choose Buxton. Its probably the sentimental value of Buxton being a long time Twin, but I also think Buxton could extend an inning just by hitting a slow dribbler, something I don't believe Valdez could do. JMHO
  17. I agree with being skeptical. However, in the first round of the playoffs I believe you will only need 11 pitchers (3 starters) which means you can have 15 position players. In the situation yesterday who would you rather pinch hit, Valdez or Buxton? I would go with a rusty Buxton. He will probably K, but he may hit a HR or an infield hit. I believe he will be on the playoff roster if he can play at all for at least the first round.
  18. Baseball Savant has a swing and miss chart for batters. I tried to post it here, but my tech abilities are limited. What it showed was Julien was -1 runs on balls in the heart of the plate (i.e. true strikes) with 6 runs created by swings and -7 runs on takes. In the shadow zone around the true strike zone (50/50 pitches) Julien was -15 runs (-12 on swings, -3 on takes). In the next two zones, chase and waste, Julien was -4 on swings and +26 on takes for net of +22 on true balls. I was surprised that Julien was a net negative on the pitches in the heart of the plate. All takes in this zone are negative, but I expected him to have a positive swing results that would exceed the takes. It also surprised me that Julien was -12 on swings in the shadow zone. It seems to me that he has been rung up a lot on pitches in this area, so I expected the takes to be a large negative, but was only -3.
  19. Did Julien know Farmer was running? I suspect that he did as Rocco may have put on the play to encourage Julien to expand his strike zone as he seems to have numerous called 3rd strikes. In regards to Kepler, has there been any explanation as to why he botched the play (lost in sun, lost perception when going from sun to shade, miss judged how far it would carry, etc.)?
  20. If you told me before this home stand started that we would go 3-3 and take 7 (maybe 8) games off our magic #, I would have taken it with no reservations. However, the 3 losses are disappointing: 1) Jax gives up 2 runs in the 9th after the Twins were 0-7 with RISP (0-3 in the 9th) 2) Correa blows an easy play resulting in an unearned run, but also causing Gray to throw additional pitches that causes him to leave after 4. Which results in BP usage resulting in 5 addl runs in a 3 run game 3) Kepler plays a fly like he has never been in Target Field which results in 3 runs. Jax comes into a tie game in the 9th and gives up a homer. All three of these could have been wins and some of our wins could have been losses (Castro 2 run Hr). It is frustrating, but at the same time promising that the Twins can compete with the best.
  21. As a reliever Jax as 1/7th of the Twins' losses.
