  1. Edgar Martinez? Frank Thomas? Late 30s DHs who dropped off a cliff at or around 40 aren't that hard to come by but it's a list of VERY good players.
  2. While I get and appreciate the gist of the article - Arraez is being banked on as too much of a sure thing in Twins Territory - it's missing more than just the launch angle and barrel stuff (though those are appreciated as well). Revere striking out more than Arraez given the decade of difference between their introductions is pretty significant. That doesn't mean Arraez strikes out just a bit less than Revere, that means adjusted for era, he strikes out quite a bit less. While it was mentioned somewhat, Revere not walking *at all* is symptomatic of a lot more than just OBP... it means he didn't recognize pitches, and not recognizing pitches or the strike zone directly leads to bad contact (or missing entirely). Arraez and Revere just aren't good comps, really. But the general idea that we shouldn't count on Arraez being a competent starter, that I can agree with. I think he'll probably do okay but I'm not banking on it.
  3. Yep. Frankly, it's pretty sad that game development entered nine digit dollar territory a decade ago, yet no one bothered to spend a relatively meager amount to engineer something like this until MS did it... two years ago? It's been a little while since they announced the original pad. Anyway, it took way too long for someone to do it, but kudos to MS for taking such a thoughtful approach to the problem while everyone else continued to ignore it.
  4. Good gravy, man. Sano had 439 PAs last season. Extrapolate those 439 PAs to 600 PAs - roughly a full season - and he drives in 108 runners, despite stinking up the joint for three weeks (.560 OPS as he swung at everything and just looked hopeless). What do you want from the guy? You mention 307 homers, well... it's pretty damned hard to drive in a runner if everyone on the team is putting the ball over the fence. And Sano was still on pace for well over 100 RBI in a full season.
  5. Yeah... Sano bottomed out with a .761 OPS on June 27th as he just looked clueless at the plate. From June 28th to the end of the season, he posted a .994 OPS.
  6. An economic downturn, which will lead to a stock market downturn.
  7. Yeah, MS has been quietly building the best accessibility package in gaming by a longshot. My understanding is that they've stayed on top of that package for awhile now and continue to release different combinations to adapt the kit to a specific need.
  8. I think this is wildly overrated. In-game, mixing pitchers could have a real impact but I just don't believe players get into "a groove" against same-handed pitchers over multiple days and from the data I've seen, that is backed up. In the modern game where the average batter will face three pitchers in a single game, I just don't see how switching up starters day-over-day really matters.
  9. I'm no longer in the market but I'd also hold and wait it out. But the market is primed for a downturn, I just called it wrong by about 18 months. Is this what causes it? Dunno, hard to say.
  10. MLB, decades ago, decided to let individual teams negotiate television rights because they didn't think it really mattered (MLB is really the only organized sport to really suffer from this technological change). In the 50s, TV was nothing. There was no money there... fast forward 70 years, that has... changed. But MLB put those rules in place and the teams that benefit the most are loathe to relinquish control. So here we are. The upside is that all internet revenue is evenly distributed to all teams, much as TV revenue is distributed evenly through other sports leagues. In time, as streaming takes a stronger hold of the market, baseball's 60-70 year old bad decisions will begin to wane in importance.
  11. Aaaaand that's why I wanted Amazon to buy the FSN system.
  12. It's a shame if they get rid of that promotion. Even if they made it $2 dogs, it's still fun and I'd still order an excessive amount just because it's fun. Ordering eight hot dogs at a time just because it costs you less than $10 is pretty funny. That wouldn't really change if it cost less than $20.
  13. Kepler is a farrrrrr better defender than Cave and should (and will) man center in place of Buxton, just as he did last season. Jake Cave can barely man a corner spot competently, much less center.
  14. To be fair, Burlington is waaayyyy closer to St Louis, Chicago, AND Kansas City than it is Minneapolis. Given that it's in the SE corner of the state, the likelihood of Twins fans living there is a lot lower than it would be to the north.
  15. They're likely not changing costs because they're in a game of chicken with Sinclair. It would be really frustrating to end users if they dropped the price by five bucks and then raised it again next month when the FSN channels return. Maybe the channels don't return in a month but I think it's likely this stand-off doesn't last forever.
  16. I also used DirecTV Now and it was terrible. From what I've read, little changed with the rebranding.
  17. I have no love for Disney but they were forced to sell the regional sports stations to get regulatory approval to buy the rest of Fox. Which is too bad, as Sinclair is just awful.
  18. Provided the creators are smart enough to stick to the source material, you're in for several seasons of really good storytelling in Locke & Key.
  19. Anyway, while I despise Amazon for a multitude of reasons, this is why I wanted to see them gobble up the FSN regional brands when they went on the block. Amazon would actively work to destroy the regional model blackout system, which would be a win for consumers. It's 2020, there's no effing reason for this kind of nonsense to exist anymore. Why would FSN care if someone from Colorado wanted to give them money to watch baseball, basketball, and hockey? Frankly, the entire system is idiotic.
  20. And I was just about to renew YouTube TV for the season. Blech, as Hulu isn't a great alternative, seeing how they don't carry MLBN.
  21. This is a pretty gross statement for a variety of reasons.
  22. Sorry, I'm going to take the best baseball player in the world's opinion over yours on the subject of cheating. If Mike Trout, a man who rarely speaks up about much of anything and quietly goes about being the best baseball player to ever walk the planet, blasts the Astros for cheating and says it gave them an advantage, I believe him.
  23. Uh... https://twitter.com/morsecode/status/1232030949631811592
  24. A WHIP of 1.5 through two innings. He's cooked, what a disastrous trade.
  25. No one in this lineup should be entrenched anywhere. And Kepler is definitely not the third or fourth best hitter on the team. While I love Max, I'm not entrenching him in any spot of a lineup that contains Donaldson, Sano, Garver, and Cruz. Max is a tier below all of those guys, somewhere closer to Polanco but lacking some of the skills that make Jorge a good lead-off hitter. Max is a lefty, which makes you want to slot him in between those other mashers somewhere but he's not in their league; that's not a knock on Max, it's a testament to just how freakin' good the rest of this lineup looks. On an average team, Max is probably the second or third best hitter. On the Twins, he's probably like the fifth or sixth best hitter.
