Twins Minor League Report (8/1): Tanner Hall Tosses Immaculate Inning

Morris just copies Zebby all year. Matthews has his worst game with the Saints in his last outing and Morris has his worst game last night. Of course, it's their worst games because almost every game is great.

Because he's 27, didn't hit in the minors all that much until last season, and isn't on the 40-man. 

He's got talent and might be a good fit as a 4th OF because of his skill defensively, but we've had enough OF this season that are on the 40-man that there hasn't been room to add him. If Buxton goes down with a serious injury (god forbid!), I think you might see him get his chance, and there might be a window for him next season as guys like Kepler and Margot likely move on.

But he's a late bloomer dealing with a roster squeeze.

Hall has taken a little longer to figure things out.  However, he is starting to show signs of figuring it out.  He has always been known at control pitcher with quality secondary pitches.   The concern was always if he could increase the velocity.  Now it does appear,  his control has gone down this year as he has tried to increase velocity and quality of the stuff.  Ultimately I think he will begin to get more comfortable,  and his control will really begin to stand out similar to Andrew Morris.  He is still one that I am going to keep an eye on, because he has the ability to take off like Morris has this year.   

It would be a nice story for keirsey Jr  to be added to the roster  , dobnak was just added to the 26 man roster  , we hold on to players to long in the minors only to lose them to other teams  ...

he didn't do well in the minors early in his professional career due to injuries , but since he has been healthy  he has hit and played average or above defense  ...

I guess keirsey Jr if not given a chance in a twins uniform will be playing for another team next year as they won't protect him in the rule 5 draft 

I get that Keirsey is a late bloomer and not on the 40 man which hurts his chances of a call up. But with Kepler leaving next year out outfield will probably be Larnach in left, Buck in center and Wallner in right. Both corners are bigger slower power guys, I think a speedy Keirsey who can play all three OF spots well, would be a solid 4rth outfielder.

Both Camargo and Severino have been mashing for St Paul this year. Too bad we're stuck with Vasquez another year, otherwise I think Camargo would get his shot. I'd like to see Severino getting reps at first base. With his crazy power I'd like to see if it translates to the majors. Maybe he could be our home run hitting long term first baseman we've been needing. I will say he'd need to limit his strikeouts for this to work, but it could happen.

If Hall is able to add velo to the fastball, he could be a significant contributor.  Both the Changeup (38 Whiff%) and Slider (40%) both miss bats, but a fastball with an average speed under 90MPH won't cut it.  Probably a bullpen arm since I doubt he adds enough for the fastball to work as a starter.

Disappointing that Julien continues to strike out about one-third of the time in AAA.

Yes, Oliver's ridiculous (good) numbers are based on only a handful of at bats.  But, his numbers before moving up were very good.  Is he a capable catcher?  Or will his future fall short because of his D?

When their #1 pick signed for slot, it became clear there wasn't any money to sign either of the two college guys they drafted late on Day 3.  Yes, they both would have been interesting prospects.  But I am as happy as the proverbial pig in you know what that they signed both the High School pitcher from Texas AND the lefty from Madison Tech.  Went well over budget to get both.  Hopefully, they will both stay healthy and be excellent prospects by this time next year.

Just to add context.  Morris's line was great with only one run given up through 5 innings.  He came out for the 6th and things just got out of control.  Some hard hit balls and weakly hit balls fell in.  Not sure if he was out of gas or just unlucky but he left with the bases loaded and of course those excellent AA relievers made sure all of the guys he left on base made it home.  I don't know how the Twins can't develop relief arms, but those AA arms have lost so many games this year I have lost count.  At any rate if Morris didn't come out for the 6th his line would have been the same as it always is.  Probably good he had some tough luck late as it gives him something to 

you always have excuses for the guys you like if it was anyone you would say how bad they are 

did I say he was a bad pitcher no he has been very good my point is if you are a high enough prospect people make excuses for these guys it was just one inning or bad defense or something .just like a hitter oh he has high exit velo just bad luck.
