What really puzzles me is why KOC would stake his reputation on trading JJ McCarthy for a 5th round draft pick. For KOC there seems to be limited upside to this transaction with plenty of downside. It will be very interesting to eventually find out what happened—it is likely that plenty of people in Vikings organization know. All we have right now is hit piece on McCarthy in the NYTimes—immature, uncoachable, horrible throwing mechanics.

It seems like he made his decision based on emotion instead of logic. He just didn't like McCarthy's immaturity. But cmon, he's 23. He could outgrow that. I also disliked McCarthy's behavior but they gave up on him too soon. And for only a 5th rounder.

KOC isn't the GM any longer.

And all of these negative things can be true of him in Minnesota and still change due to him being humbled by the situation and/or having a change of scenery and circumstance. We were all 23 once.

But when has that ever happened with the team that drafted the QB? These guys have a long history of only maturing AFTER they flamed out with their original team.

Right. They drafted him knowing his young age. Then they seemed miffed that he griddied into the end zone and did other dumb stuff that college age guys do.

I was told that meant he had room for growth, unlike nix or penix..... Apparently we had no patience....

No patience for him, but sticking with the guy who can’t throw 5 yards past the LOS unless he has a phantom “injury”. I doubt it would happen but KOC not winning a playoff game again after all his failed QB decisions would cost most coaches their jobs

If only they had job interviews for college QBs.........

I also wonder if McCarthy ever said, "My college coach was more famous than you, and I'm going to do it his way!" or if he only thought that in his head.
