Fedko Released

I didn’t see it reported anywhere here, but Fedko was released by the Twins.  He is signing a minor league deal with the Pirates.

I read on another site about his release, but I didn't realize he had already hooked up with the Pirates. Best of luck to him.

Rules state that injured players can't be placed on standard outright waivers. 

The Twins needing a 40 man spot for Ben Ross could only release Fedko to create the opening needed for Ross. 

If he was healthy... He could have gone through the normal waiver process and return to the Twins if he went unclaimed. 

Fedko with Minnesota. He will just go down as another momentary contract selection that was made based on the batters box that he stands in.

He also couldn't have been transferred to the 60-day IL, because the 60-day doesn't exist in MiLB and only exists as it pertains to the MLB roster.  If they were to transfer him to the 60-day IL, he would have to be promoted to MLB and be paid a MLB salary.  On top of that, the IL goes away after the season so he would be taking a roster spot then as well.

Whatever the reason he beat the overwhelming odds stacked against him to make the move from MiLB to MLB.  

Maybe he can do it again.

Definitely wish him the best of luck on continuing the dream. He was one of the few who made the big show, and he even got a little playing time. Nobody can take that away from him.

Instead of implying that this is a negative, you could observe that in his very limited opportunity they gave him the favorable matchup 11 times out of 20 (not always a given, as a short-side of a platoon) and he struck out in 6 of those favorable opportunities.  They would have needed to give him 13 more opportunities against LHP, and for him to strike out in none of those, just to get down to a more tolerable 25% K rate. 

He didn't offset that with much success in the 8 tries against RHP either.

How much rope is enough, given lots of other guys also deserve rope* at the same time, when major league rope is always in short supply?  Good for him, he got his cup of coffee, and not many prospects get to say that.  Maybe Pittsburgh will unlock more for him.

People say all the time, "let's bring up the kids and see what we've got."  This "kid" will turn 27 later this month.

I get all that.

My sentence wasn't an opportunity statement or complaint toward the mistreatment of Fedko. Although I fully admit that that bone does exist in my body. 

This was a statement toward what I believe... and I may be wrong... yet I do believe... the decision on who to call up was limited to those who stand on a certain side of the plate.
