Swapping Larnach and Keaschall with Jenkins and Rodriguez would be a HUGE improvement in the outfield defense.

Harkening back to the good old TK / Gardy days when defense seemed to matter to this organization.  Now we only seem concerned with versatility.

As partially expected, Jackson was designated for assignment after the game tonight to officially bring Buxton onto the active roster.

Which leaves swapping Roden for Jenkins as an extremely attractive option.

I’d love to see Jenkins up. But he…or anyone else…doesn’t make the club better by taking at-bats from Keaschall. Maybe that’s not what you’re insinuating. If/when, it will be at-bats from Roden, and probably a rotating mix of others.

Baseball's a funny game.  When you take at bats from a fella you also usually take his glove off the field.  Let's play the whole game. Keashall can't play D.  Let's stop pretending we can find a spot on the field where we can hide that fact.

Since June 11 when the TEAM hit low water mark of 8 games under 500…so over 2 months and a third of the season in which they’ve been playing their best baseball (such that it is) in terms of winning pct…

Leader in wRC+ : Keaschall; Leader in OPS: Keaschall (both by a pretty good margin)

Rank in fWAR…which, like you and most, doesn’t like Keaschall’s defense….1. Lewis, 2. Keaschall

Rank in fWAR per game played 1. Jeffers, 2. Lewis, 3. Keaschall, 4. Buxton

Shelton would and should be fired if he decided he wasn’t going to play Keaschall as much.

Culpepper not even being able to make a simple tag on a perfect throw was pretty disappointing. Something that is no different no matter what league you are playing in. Looks like another future utility guy so far.

How many other guys catch that ball?

It was about a 50/50 chance.  He ran a long way to get there and was not at a good angle to it.  An experienced outfielder chances would be a lot better.  But I have also seen experienced outfielders make worse errors.  These guys are human, they mess up sometimes..
