Morneau+Morales+Clete Thomas+ some mid range 20-25 prospect for Hughes.

I was going to throw out Hughes for Morneau straight up :)

Swapping home ballparks would be a godsend for both of those guys

I'm not sure what Morales and Clete add, but I think the rest of it is a solid idea. Yanks get some help this year to replace Tex and a mid-level prospect. I'd still want an extension for Hughes in place at the time of the trade.

The same could be said about Pelfrey and he wasn't exactly given some massive contract...teams aren't stupid.

Pelfrey was coming off TJ surgery and the Mets are no Yankees as far as hype goes. To add to my arguement, this thread has reached two pages in less than 3 hours. For Phil freaking Hughes.

I never understood why people were down on Baker. He was a very good pitcher when healthy.

Probably the "when healthy" part. I always liked Scott Baker, but I did find it frustrating how fragile he seemed to be.

Hughes has never impressed me when I watch him throw. Personal Bias that is mine for what it's worth.

Well, he's pitched very well against us in limited games that's for sure.

I think some will be disgusted by what Hughes gets this winter. And then there will be the other camp that says to sign simply because they won't spend the money elsewhere.

I actually like Hughes a fair amount but his age and former prospect hype will cause someone to go crazy in FA. I think he will ge 5/60. Yep...

I can understand that - Hughes has some similar problems. But Baker used to get an extra tough rap in town because he was the best pitcher on a staff full of high-contact pitchers. So he took a lot of heat for being the supposed king of high contact.

Reality is that he was nothing like Blackburn or Pavano or any of those other guys. He was a borderline legit #2 when he took the ball. I think most Twins fans would give their second born to have another (healthy) Baker around here.

Agreed, and there will be much consternation on this board about it. To be fair, depending on how the market plays out, it could be from me.

His age and pedigree will get him at least what Edwin Jackson got and with the questionable free agent market and extra TV revenue every team is getting, I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to Anibal Sanchez's deal. To his agent's delight, people will be throwing out the schtick about how he was unfarily hurt by Yankee Stadium and his home/road splits will support the arguement.

Of course once he gets his bloated contract, then everyone will be quick to point out what a terrible deal it was for the organization that was duped by the hype.

And perhaps that's why the Twins will target Baker again next off season.

They will make a run for him--but Baker would only sign as a last resort.

Baker still has "the feet of clay" problem.
