Pykkman Verified Member Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 Duran WALKED the lead off batter. Then gives up two singles. Then make this statement in the post game: “Soft grounder in a bad spot,” Twins closer Jhoan Duran said, shaking his head after giving up a run for only the seventh time in 33 appearances this season. “Baseball luck.” He walked the winning runner. “Baseball luck” did not throw 4 balls. Or give up two singles. if I’m the manager……”Own your failure and dominate next time you are on the mound.” MGX and T.O. 1 1

Sure, he threw "balls." Those are pitches he usually gets his opponent to chase. Go watch his other games. He's throwing the same pitches out of zone and hitters swing through them. Give Houston credit for taking good at-bats and laying off them. Cory Engelhardt 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 He's human? Seriously. chpettit19, shortround81, Cory Engelhardt and 2 others 5
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 In addition to him being human, it's well known that a lot of closers don't do great in non-save situations. shortround81 1
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2025 Posted June 15, 2025 I’m going to defend Duran every time because he’s largely been great for the twins. For some reason, he does struggle more often in non save situations. Not sure why that is but I’m glad he’s on the team. One of the very few guys on the roster that can be dominant most of the time.
Pykkman Verified Member Posted June 15, 2025 Author Posted June 15, 2025 I agree he is human. I give Houston credit for beating him. My point isn’t his performance on the mound. My point is his response to those things. If you accept you were beat you figure out how not too let that happen again. Like “I cannot walk the lead off batter in This situation.” That is the mentality that makes you better. If you dismiss it as bad luck luck that means you think you can do the same thing again and expect a better outcome. That mentality doesn’t lead to improved performance and outcomes. Mike Sixel 1

It appears not everyone is.
Pykkman Verified Member Posted June 16, 2025 Author Posted June 16, 2025 Just watched the second time he walked the lead off batter. Damn.
