Article: A Checklist for Kyle Gibson

Nice article Cody -

I was just watching Twins post game and they focussed on Gibson, and watching that guy throw, wow. He looks different from our usual staff.

So excited to watch him live on Saturday.

You are right though - this is about the long-term.

This is a great article. I hope that someone is giving him similar insights.

I don't believe the expectation is for him to be an elite guy. I believe the hope is that he can inject some talent into the starting rotation and actually put up a string of nice starts. Currently, that is Kevin Correia. I think the expectation is that Gibson will be something different and hopefully a breath of fresh air. I hope for about a 4 ERA this year. If he does that, I think everyone would be thrilled.

Good list for fans to read as well as Gibson. Looking forward to seeing him pitch and to watching him develop over the next few years.

My patience/tolerance level is a lot higher for the rookies and pre-arbitration guys than it is for the retreads.

Another suggestion. Be yourself. Make your pitches and hit your spots. Don't focus on the results. Focus on the next pitch. The more good pitches you make the results will take care of themselves.

Kyle Gibson wins his major league debut! That's gotta be a record, right?

It was good to see him just keep working even when he hit some trouble spots. Seemed to have a lot of composure.

Now if he can just keep it up for another 10 years. :)

I was a the game and so didn't benefit from replays of pitches, but this is how it looked from the third deck.

He struck out Butler twice, which is pretty impressive. Apparently he had a sinker that was working.

The Royals big inning had some seeing eye hits; he wasn't getting beaten around too much, but he did a nice job of controlling the damage. The Royals did hit some balls pretty hard over the course of 6 innings though

He threw strikes, and was in good counts the whole game.

He looked nice and loose out there, throwing 92-93.

More of the same please!

Watched Gibson's debut from standing room behind the first base line. Looked like he had good command of his heater, but his off-speed stuff he was just getting it over the plate with not much command. Nerves.

I figure he'll start picking spots with all his stuff within the next few starts, and then we'll see what he can really do. Hitters were unfamiliar, so Gibson had an early advantage, but he'll need to sharpen up after opponents see some video. That's when he'll need to spot his slider better and mask his pitches better.

Very nice mechanics, squares his left side really well. I bet his slider will get a lot of K's. It was nice to see a Twins starter clocking 93-94mph, although he faded to 91-92 later. Peddle that bike, young man!
