That's fair...but let's be clear:

A last minute hitch to a massive deal is likely one helluva hitch.  My main argument has been: we should be on high alert for shenanigans here.  Concern/worry is probably the right response.

Who says it was the last minute?

Despite the 'opening day' optimism, that never seemed reasonable. I doubt it ever was anything more than an attempt to leverage urgency to all the bidders.

A buyer dropped out. Happens all the time. Will happen again until there's only one.

But how close were they to finalizing a deal? If they jumped to the sox that quickly I just think that was their hope all along.

The Ishbias will 100% keep the Sox in Chicago. Justin Ishbia runs his business in Chicago and lives just outside the city.

Then going in on the White Sox seems like the end he wanted

Last minute may not be the right characterization, but Brock's comments certainly imply this was unexpected in the last 24 hours when all signs pointed to a resolution with this buyer in the very near future.

Right, the one potential buyer that was made public leveraged that info to further buy into another team that he already had a stake in? Sounds like a billionaire doing billionaire things to me.

Yeah, and buying in now before they leverage the threat of leaving into a new tax-payer funded ballpark and developable land which will immediately increase the return on his investment.

He wouldn't be getting that with the Twins.

If the Pohlads/Twins went along with that and leaked it to the media over and over....that should not be comforting

That wouldn't seem to benefit them. Carl was the slick businessman, I've seen no evidence his offspring or Dave St. Peter are. Plenty of evidence that Joe Pohlad is a terrible businessman.

But I don't really get what it all matters; picking sides in this sale seems like betting on which food in the fridge is the least spoiled. We're seriously discussing which billionaire will serve our interests best? What, is this still coverage of the inauguration? Obviously the answer is going to be none of them.

That is actually what jocko said, :)

And the connotation absolutely was that this shouldn't be surprising or worrisome.  That spin is confusing to me, I admit.

Okay, one person said it was. But when we are dealing with billionaires and big money deals, I guess I get the not surprising sort of attitude. Not that this specific scenario should have been expected, but I guess it’s not surprising to me that some sort of hitch came up and that smooth sailing from A to B is just not a thing.

Feel free to @ me at any time.

It's the only thing that makes any sense with the known facts. Without a firm indication they had something in place to sell the Sox shares the Ishbia offer had to be held at arms length.

The fancy New York brokers they hired to take care of this, did not discount the possibility of the Sox being a factor.

None of our sources are credible. Short of the actual decision maker, nobody knows anything.

Because I know this ownership sucks.  The only reason any of us care is the hope we might clear the low bar the Pohlads set.  The Ishbias were definitely that opportunity.

And then.....whatever the hell this whole mysterious boondoggle was.  Has our sports market not had enough terrible ownership kerfuffles to see the pessimism here?

It might work out in the end, but the casual responses are surprising.

I'm happy the Pohlads are selling. I just don't get why people care what was behind door number 1 as opposed to doors 2 or 3. We know nothing other than that which ever door it is, profit will still be the top motivation.
